http://ffxiah.com/

they've collected some data on various items on the AH and have compiled an index of the economy.
We needed an index and a more intersting front page. I'm not an economist, actually, I think I got a C in Macroeconomics in college. I consulted Cliff and did some research on how the DOW Jones index was computed. The Dow sums the largest stocks and uses a divisor to adjust for splits and joins of these stocks. I hand selected around 30 expensive and frequently traded items. There is obviously no need for a divisor so I just took the sum. I went back and did this for each day for each server. I have to automate this process, so it's still not done yet.

The higher on the list your server is, the lower the gil value and vice versa. The points change with supply&demand of the items and can be used to estimate the overall state of the server's economy. Supply usually remains near constant(i.e. X amount of kotes will drop per day) but demand can change by many different things. Feel free to post your analysis.lol, poor Asura

I noticed their lil line graph yesterday when I went to check the going price on some key items. Most servers were all bundled together in a big clump but Asura was FAR above the rest. I'm not exactly sure about my server's standings as it's all tangled up with the majority of the servers, but I guess that's a good thing.

Edit: Nvm that last part, just looked at it again. 3rd cheapest server as of today =D

Yeah it's difficult for me to outfit my mnk the way I want ;_; Every other server has Cross-counters for 3 mil or less and we're still 5mil+. Should've world shifted when I had the chance >_>

What are these items that are used for the index?
Usually the ones in the real world require you to pick a stock from different industries. If the index here only shows frequently traded items like consumables, it wont exactly reflect the economy of the server.

If the index here only shows frequently traded items like consumables, it wont exactly reflect the economy of the server.from the quote I pasted above, they are indexing 30 "expensive and frequently traded" items. Though I don't know what items they are, I doubt consumables would be indexed.

probably things like SH, Haubby, HQ staves, etc.

Well just looking at their population statsistics here is what I deduce. All statistics worked out from FFXIAH server page http://ffxiah.com/data.php

Current population (when this list was produced) 642,006 players = average of 20062 players per server.

Highest population = Odin with 22,559 players
Lowest population = Remora with 18,790 players
Lakeshimi is the closest to the mean population having 20042 players.

Most transactions = Asura with 834,467 transactions on the AH
Least Transactions = Qetzalcoatl with 660,743 transactions on the AH
Mean Transactions accoss all servers = 717,614.562.

Statisticly...
Remora is the server with most transactions per head of population being 37.300.
Valefore has the least transactions per head of population with only 32.661.
Mean transactions per head of population accross all servers is 34.660.

Alexander is solid, or it was when I quit. I just started again not too long ago after a 6 month break. Only thing that tripped me out after coming back was the lack of people, the population seems to have gone wayyyyyyyyy down since I was last on. But that may be the case for all servers in the past few months.

Looks great. I was noticing a steady decline in prices on my server, but wasn't sure if I could attribute it to something random or something systemic. Looks like those account deletions did have an effect after all.

My lovely home of Pandemonium is nearly identical to the average. It's line actually disappears behind the average bar. So ho-hum.

This is very interesting. I guess since price is "still" dropping, it is time to sell expensive gear now, and wait until the price drops to the lowest point, and then buy them back?
