Hi,
I've been playing this game for almost 3 months now. I went down the White Mage path to begin with which was great but I felt like a change. It was a choice of Bard or Corsair and being in party with both I felt that Corsair matched my needs more as they buff and attack where as most Bards tend to buff and heal. Also a Tara in Pirate gear is going to be sweet! ^^
I'm a Tara and I managed to unlock the Corsair job using my White Mage (Lvl 37) with relevant ease considering I had high level people helping me get there which was very kind of them.
Now came the tricky part of deciding what subjob. Just looking on here indicates that seems to be either one of four. Rng/Nin/War/Whm. Now I was thinking Whm since I already have levelled that to 37 but the mp I had to use was very low which made it pointless so I went down the Ranger path, as unlocking Ninja is alot harder to do also costs more and Corsair alone is enough money!
Now at the moment I'm in the lovely Dunes where I am Level 18, I have all the dice and I look forward to Healer's Roll when I hit 20 and then I'm off to Qufim Island. My questions though are as follows:
I know this is way off to begin with but the Hexagun I know it has 6 barrels but when you fire one shot do you lose 6 bullets or do you lose just the 1? Always wondered about that.
Secondly I have noticed that Corsair's strongest weapons are Daggers, Swords and Guns. I have capped my Sword skill for now with Dagger not too far behind but I cant help but notice that my actual damage from hitting the mob with both Sword and Dagger is pitiful, is this always going to be the case the higher I level or does it get better in time? Granted I know Corsair's are not Melee charcters.
Thirdly being a White and Black Mage most of the time I have never had to pull obviously that is now changing and I am always asked to pull, which I totally dont mind doing, but I have a few questions about this, just rather get it raight in the Dunes than go somewhere else and be the blame for a wipe on the Party. Should I be aiming for VT? IT? Or even IT+? Another thing linking, I know a little about this but, just say for example I hit a monster that links is it only monsters of the same family eg Goblins that could link or could a Damesfly tag along with a Gob?
Lastly for now, Rolling. When I roll a 6 I am always wanting to roll higher but I also don't want to cause a Bust, but what penalities incur in a bust are they really bad, or are they not that bad a penalty?
Thanks for taking the time to read this and just so you know I am totally loving the Corsair job and I honestly think this is the first job I truly want to level to 75 and I can't wait to achieve that landmark even though its a life time away at the moment I wont give up!
Thanks again ^^

1. As far as subjob, I'd say RNG. You get better accuracy, barrage, and sharpshot at the loss of shadows from NIN. WHM really is useless because you spend most of your time buffing, pulling, and shooting.
2. Hexagun only shoots one bullet.
3. Your strongest weapon is your gun always. Your sword and dagger damage will never really be that high, your main damage is going to come from your gun. I hit for 120-140 a shot at level 60.
4. Depending on your group and the current mp levels you change what you pull. Most of the time you want IT. On the higher chains like chain 4+ try pulling T to keep the chain going. It's really something you will just get the fill for later as you play. As far as links, only mobs of the same family can link, and not all do. Crabs in valkrum and qufim dont link for instance.
5. Always reroll on a 6, after that it's up to you. I personally wont roll on 7+ because if you ask me some buff is better then no buff. But the bust effect only effects you not the rest of the party, and it's not that bad.
Hope I helped some and I'm more then willing to answer any questions you have.

I'll admit its a tad expensive, but levelling RNG and NIN is well worth it. I like to down NIN and WHM subs, but they have their places in certain situations. I wouldn't overlook /NIN because (1) solo functionality and (2) good for missions/BCNMs too. It can also have a place in burn PTs, but that comes, much, much later and really isn't something for you to worry about right now.
I know this is way off to begin with but the Hexagun I know it has 6 barrels but when you fire one shot do you lose 6 bullets or do you lose just the 1? Always wondered about that.
Just one bullet per shot, well, until you get Barrage from /RNG sub, then you can blow up to 5 bullets in one shot every five minutes.
Due to the fact you're probably going to be favoring Archer's Knife for a good part of your career, straight melee damage isn't going to be a strong point for you. I wouldn't worry too much about melee combat until you get closer to your final genkai (breaking the level 70 cap). And really, I haven't even heard a lick about the final COR level cap fight and I can't wait to do it.
As far as low levels go, a lot of people obsess about pulling IT, but go ahead and pull VT, too. EXP is EXP before 30, its after 30 the ball usually get rolling faster and IT fights easier to get and find.
If the mob families are different, they generally don't link, the exception to the rule being of the mob is a Beastmaster - if it has a pet with a matching mob family in the area, expect links if the other mobs are near. If they're they same mob type, not all of them link, but some of them can and do. Its best to ask someone with experience as you go if you don't know. But, what the hell, here's a few 1-30. Some of this is subject to change as you get higher in level, so keep that in mind.
Mandys - no link
Crab - no link
Bats - link by sight, aggro by sound.
Goblins- link by sight, aggro by sight.
Quadav - link by sight, aggro by sound.
Yagudo - link by sight, aggro by sight.
Orc - link by sight, aggro by sight.
Giants - aggro by sight, link by sight
Rarhabs - link by sight after you get past level 10ish
Bees - link by sight, no aggro
Undead - aggro by sound, low HP. No link.
Beetles - link by sight, no aggro.
Funguar - aggro by sound, link.
Bombs - aggro sight and magic, link by sight.
Elementals - aggro by magic, no link.
Flys - link by sight, no aggro.
Goobuue - aggro by sight, link by sight.
Lastly for now, Rolling. When I roll a 6 I am always wanting to roll higher but I also don't want to cause a Bust, but what penalities incur in a bust are they really bad, or are they not that bad a penalty?
When a COR busts, the intended effect is lost to the PT and reverses on the COR. This is really only bad as far as Hunter's and Chaos Roll goes for the COR, as it will hamper your accuracy or damage for a bit, but the rest of the PT just loses the buff like they never had it. Double bust status restricts you from buffing at all, so I'm generally willing to take a chance and risk one bust if I don't have a bust on me already.

Thank you for your advice, It has helped me improve loads ^^
I do have a couple of more questions though. One of the strongest skills a Corsair has is Parrying yet not being a Tank my parrying skill is incredibly low. I have tried to solo monsters but I am reluctant since I'm a Tartaru they tendy to get not last as long due to my low hp.
How can I build up on his skill or does it not particulary matter if I do not skill up on this?
Also I know there are two NPC's that sell dice but on my server (Shiva) the guy in Al'Zahbi is never at his counter does he dissapear when his shop isn't open or can he be taken away in a Beseiged?
The guy at Nashmau is fine he's always around but need to get my paws on some dice. I have Puppet Master Dice but none after that ='(
Thanks for taking your time to read this and I'll appreciate any help given. ^^

I got the most parrying out of levelling NIN as one of my subs and i'm still not capped on it. I find i still parry a bit in PTs if I do get hate, so I don't think its a big point of concern for COR.
Soloing isn't a terribly strong suit for COR, though /NIN does help out with it a little.

Chayaya gets kidnapped a lot in besieged and she sells all the dice for pre-expansion jobs, its best to check back often to see if she's there. If you really need a dice, you may want to organize a rescue with some friends. You have to farm a key for the cage they're trapped in and I believe you can pinpoint them with Wide Scan if they are in a beastmen stronghold.

Omgwtfbbqkitten, thanks for the help there, so far my experience with Corsair is really good.
I hit level 34 last night in Behemoth's Dominion as Garliege Citadel was way too over crowded. Now I still have a few questions (sorry!).
Most in regards of equipment.
I have a full Noct +1 gear and Archers Knife. I did want the Gun Belt until I discovered the price
Also I know how Black Mages gear up towards INT, and Whit Mages go for MND what should a Corsair be aiming for?
I was thinking AGI but I could be way off, just thought I'd ask here ^^
Also as I'm nearing level 40 it will soon be time to head off to go get my Trump Gun, should this be the gun I should stick with? If so how long for and what would be my replacement?
Another thing what level should I be to start going to Aht Urhgan for exping?
And lastly the "Quick Draw" ability.
Should I use it straight away? I know (I think) that each element can boost an Enfeeble, e.g. Slow I would shoot out an Earth Element card right?
Another thing does using the Quick Draw ability cause damage or does it only enhance an enfeeble? And could I say MB it in a Skillchain or does that work on it?
Once again apologies for the amount of questions its just I'm loving being a Corsair and I want to get the most out of it and with your help I can be so thanks for your help and taking the time out to read this as all your help so far has been top notch! ^^

slow is earth magic so yes <_< That said each spell matches a color on the spell list so it is easy to find out, I am also rdm so I can easily look it up.
To use it straight or help in enfeeble up to you. Magic Burst hmm if it does then cool if not bummer will have to check lol.
I think the lvling in Aht Urhgan is 55 but I am not positive.
Trump gun again your call, Me most likly I keep it on me because it looks cool, but depends on your flow of gil. I think at 65 the Hexagun would be the replacement not positive.
Agi, and maybe Int if that ties in with the ws and Quick Draw.
The Gun Belt saw it then fainted, then planned to do a bcnm for it also the peacock charm.
Well Iccarus why apologies for questioning? Those were good questions could look them up but eh I seen bad questions on forums before.

Gun Belt is certainly nice to have, but I'd say its not totally needed. Neither is Beater's Mantle or Beater's Shield, but certainly get your hands on Beater's Earring. If you can get all for, more power to you, but if you can't get it all, put Beater's earring at the top of your list.
Also I know how Black Mages gear up towards INT, and Whit Mages go for MND what should a Corsair be aiming for?
I'd say don't worry about this terribly much til 70+, I've not gotten many resists in EXP PTs yet, though I see them a lot in Beseiged due to my level. I am considering INT and MND builds myself in the not-so-distant future, elemental staves and Moldivite earring as well.
I was thinking AGI but I could be way off, just thought I'd ask here ^^
AGI is fine, STR too. But put Ranged Accuracy ahead of them

If you can't get your hands on Seadog Gun +1, there's no shame in sticking to your Trump until Matchlock gun. It really depends on your style with COR and if you value staying alive to buff over out DDing eveyone.
The hexaguns do lower damage than other guns, but offer accuracy stats and lower delay in exchange. You could still keep up the damage well due to the lower delay. But its also a financial decision, if you go with low delay, you'll be burning bullets faster than a COR with a higher delay gun.
Again, it all depends on your style of play.
Another thing what level should I be to start going to Aht Urhgan for exping?
54 or 55 seems to be ok.
And lastly the "Quick Draw" ability.

Quick Draw enhances enfeebles already in effect, but also and act similar to BRD's Threnody if used ahead of a nuke or magical blood pact. It also affects Enspell damge of the same element and elemental bolts and arrows. when used ahead, but only by like 1 extra point of damage per hit/shot.
As far as how to use it, I generally take mob weakness into consideration and line my shots up with the enfeeb that goes with that weakness. So if something's weak to light, I use Light shot after Dia or Ice Shot after paralyze. You have the right idea.
As for it magic bursting, sadly, Quick Draws don't MB.

Seadog Gun+1 is obsolete before you can even equip it.
Trump Gun: LV40, D28/480, AGI+2, RACC+2
Deluxe Carbine: LV46, D32/600
Seadog Gun +1: LV50, D26/582, RATK+10

Hence "depends on your style." If you wish to equip an expensive HQ gun that's obseleted by Trump Gun, it your call and your waste of gil :P
That said, Trump Gun is probably the best AF1 I ever got my hands on and had the longest use, though BST AF1 wasn't too shabby but its only good for a handful of levels and then CHR and STR options skyrocket.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I have reached level 40 now so I have got my hands on Evoker's Roll finally ^^
Also I have access to "Quick Draw" but alas I never brought any of my Elemental cards along with me (It was late ¬.¬).
Does using them increase your Marksmanship skill at all?
Or would I have to resort to using bullets still to gain the skill up in that category?
And another thing I was looking for Macro's for firing off a Element Card but I couldn't find any, is there any chance someone could write one down for me or link it to aplace that does? Thanks!
I reckon I found a better gun in the Darksteek Hexgun which boosts RACC +4 but when I go to Al'Zahbi to pick up some more Dice I'll go get my Trump Gun at the same time, looks like I had better stock up on Silent Oils and Prism Powders ^^
As for the NM for the AF weapon battle how many people should I get to help me? This is my first NM battle for an AF1 battle so I'm a little unsure in how many people to bring and what level should they be?
Thanks in advance if you get to reply ^^

Thanks again for your help.
I have reached Level 4 now and have really liked my adventure with Corsair.
I discovered that sadly Quick Draw doesn't build up Marksmanship Skill but it's still a very impressive JA.
Rogue's Roll is great, the amount of Critical hits rose like mad especially if I was fortunate enough to roll a Lucky number or 11.
I've killed the Lost Soul with the help of my LS Level 75 Summoner and got my hands on the Trump Gun and I'm just edging more closer to the Level 50 mark which I hope to reach some time soon.
I only have one question to ask this time for the AF2 I have to fish up a Hydrogauge. It's great that I don't need to Level up my Fishing Skill as I have been focusing on my Alchemy. Where did all you guys Fish up your Hydrogauge and roughly how long did it take to pull yours up from the Ocean? I was thinking of fishing it up at Nashmau I'd rather not fish it up from the Boat just in case I get Aggro from one of the mobs. What fishing Rod and bait did you use as well?
Yet again I gotta admit I love this job and it's going to take something very special to lure me away from it ^^
Thanks for your time.
