Okay, I just wanted to get some opinionson the situation and what you'd do about it. This isn't meant to slander, so names are being replaced.

Person A: Supposedly hacked.

Person B: Person A's Concerned Friend.

So, I hear a shout in Aht Urgan about a really low price on a hakutaku eye cluster. I send a tell to Person A and buy it. It IS a low price, and I don't see anything fishy; After all, people get quit the game/need fast cash all the time. Suddenly, I get a tell from Person B. Apparently, he thinks the account has been hacked and that I'm in some sort of scheme to steal all the items on the character.

This is where it gets messy. I don't b-list the person because I don't want to have my name and wrongs I haven't committed shouted all over vana'diel. I try to tell him that I stole nothing, and he rattles off a list of some 10 expensive items (among them noble's tunic and penitent rope) that I supposedly stole from the account. I tell him I didn't steal anything, I bought one item. I even go so far as to tell him that if Person A really DID get hacked, that I'll sell it back at the same price I got it for. This isn't good enough, though.

I make a GM call, and of course they won't do a thing, even though now I've been harrassed for going on a half hour. The GM even insinuates that what he said is true! Now, I'm feeling low-down, so I get my LS-mates telling the guy to lay off. Finally, after about an hour, one of them gets through his thick skull, and I stop getting tells.

I'm still holding the cluster, for any who are curious, and if Person A truly was hacked, she can get it back at exactly what I paid. She has until Saturday to send me a /tell.

So, I ask, what would you have done? Would you have Blisted him to begin with and said to hell with what he shouts? Would you have given the cluster to him? Would you have argued with him endlessly? I don't know if what I did was the best, but I left feeling like I might have handled it wrong.

I don't understand. How would Person B even know that you'd bought the Cluster form Person A, if person A wasn't playing their character at the time?

Sounds like a weird situation.

I /bowed to Person A after buying, so Person B assumed I had...

Honestly, it sounds to me like Person A regrets letting go of the cluster for such a low price, and is using Person B to get it back.

What Murphie Said. :)

p.s. I Probably would've ignored Person B cause i just scored a bargain and couldnt care less about him or Person A.

I feel bad for Person A and Person B. It sucks that their parents had to give them such stupid names. Why couldn't they have named them Bill, George, or Sue?

Seriously though, I think you are doing all you can and more. You don't need to even wait until Saturday. You bought it fair and square. Allthough, since you did say that you were going to, it would be a good idea to stick to your word.

Are you sure that Person B is a friend of Person A, or is that just what Person B said? Person B may have wanted the Cluster for himself, and now he's mad because you got to it first. Heck, he may just be trying to scam it from you.

I think you're good for golden donuts.

Um.....yeah

For one, I agree that you should buy it. Great bargain! Sell it back for a lot of money.

For two, if he harrasses you, tell him that you didn't "hack" into his account, and if he harrasses you again, BLIST him. He must've been doped up on drugs when he was playing, and felt very generous!

It sounds to me like Player B, the supposed "Friend", was pissed because he wanted to buy it himself, but was beat to the bazaar and he was trying to scare you into giving it to "his friend so he could return it".

The ONLY time I would sell a bazaar item back to the person I bought it from is if the PERSON I bought it from asked themselves.. I've had too many shady dealings with people online, both in game and in general, to trust outsiders.

Another thing you may wish to consider is that this may just be a set-up.
Person A (or was it B?) sells the cluster, tells his friend, who then accuses & harrasses you, you finally get mad, scared, whatever and agree to give back the item.
Which goes back up for sale, so the next guy can buy it, get harrassed.... turning into a never ending stream of income.

I'm just curious... what is the profit you can possibly make on it?

Thanks for the replies, guys! Since I said I would, I'll wait until Sat to sell the cluster. It isn't like the profits will go anywhere.

Person B said that he was a friend of A's, but the way he kept pestering me for an hour... Sheesh. There's no way with my small amount of gil that I'd give it back for FREE. I figure that if the person decides to buy it back, it'll be a confirmation that Person B was telling the truth, and if she doesn't, then I'll seriously think that it may be a scam.

Bull. You baught it from them, you have every right to keep it and not get yelled at over it. If their account was hacked, tough shit. You're a bystander, you walked by, baught an item from a bazaar, and it's tough luck to them.

pretty much. If he wants to be an ass about it, just keep the item and say thank you to the seller. ^.^

If it was a different situation....like "I accidentally sold it at a really low price", then that would be a tougher call.

My 75 WHM account got hacked this weekend /sigh. It sucks but luckily she didn't have anything but RARE/EX equipment on her but I miss my R3 mule. Stupid SE wont do a damn thing about it because the hacker changed the address on the account and that's one of the 5 thing SE requires you to have in order to change the password. I had 4, even the three unchangable ones, but not the Address.
