These aketons don't work (the movement speed) if you're not that citizen. However, in the description it clearly says: While in (city): Movement Speed +12%
I think the description should be amended so it's "Citizen's of (city) while in (city): Movement Speed +12%", that or the item should actually work as stated.
I done a search and didn't see this has been brought up. Unless the reasons for this item was to make it "unique" to that nation only ...

More specifically, the three Aketons do not work unless:
- You are actually within the city that it links to.
- You are a citizen of that city.
- You have Signet or Sanction active.
I find the restrictions rather annoying - I own all 3 Aketons, and ended up giving them all to my mules. If I really need to move fast in a city, I'll just switch to one of my 74+ jobs and sub Bard for Raptor Mazurka, or just use my 75 Bard and use Chocobo Mazurka (though this isn't an option for people who haven't levelled Bard).

Ah I've never walked around with no signet. But I felt I should mention it anyway, but yeh, it won't work if you're not a citizen of that city. I'm not sure what you mean by:
- You are actually within the city that it links to.

It's just a reference to say that only the non-combat zones actually controlled by a city count for the Aketons; thus Metalworks, Chateau D'Oraguille, and Heaven's Tower also count for Aketon activation, but Bostaunieaux Oubliette does not.

Bostaunieaux Oubliette
is in Ronfaure, not San d'Oria.

Urk...it's in Chateau D'Oraguille. Go down stairs.

I'm sure he knows that I know. He's just being ornery just to be ornery (aren't you Legal Fish?).

Geographically, it's part of ronfaure. There aren't any combat areas within the main cities I don't think.

Legal Fish is correct. Bostanieux shows up on the map as part of Ronfaure, and (along with Ronfaure) can actually become controlled by someone other than San d'Oria, although it's quite rare. Similar remarks apply to Toraimarai Canal (including Full Moon Fountain) and Zeruhn Mines - they have entrances from inside the city, but they themselves are not part of the city.
Anyway - the aketons are basically toys, I don't think this is much of an issue. Changing the description would be fine I guess, but I'd just as soon see them focus on higher priorities.

First off, I know this is a necropost, but I saw this and it bugged me that it was erronius, and I have to correct it.

This is *NOT* true. I have just tested it out myself. I ran around with and without a national Aketon on, with *and* without Signet, and the Aketon works as advertiesed. As far as having to be a membr of the nation of the Aketon you are wearing, yes, you do have to be a citizen of that city.
I just tested both parts out, and these are definate facts.

Hmm... odd. I know I tested the Signet effect a while back and found that it didn't work without Signet, but that was right when they were introduced and that may have been changed at some point. I'll take your word for it though; can't test it myself until my mules lose their current signets.

I've used a Republic Aketon without signet, in fact last time I used it getting signet was the reason for me to make a stop in Basty (so my MP medal would work again).
This was less than a week ago and I would've noticed if the aketon didn't work... unless I was under placebo effect that is. :P

I wear mine more for the sense of accomplishment then anything else. I know they have become sorta passe to a lot of people who have played as long as I have, but most of them got there a lot quicker then me. On a Conquest standpoint, I don't ever see myself changing allegiances because I'd miss my outpost warps too much. Though if they implemented it so those were saved on an allegiance switch then I would consider it. For now though, I'll wear my Kingdom Aketon with pride.

Rank 10 came out a loooong time ago, so these are sorta outdated, however I think most people dont get these for movement speed. They get them cause they look cool. I just cant spare the inventory space to carry one of these things aorund if I happen to be in my home city.

To me the only real reason to purchase an aketon is for my mules, because the time I spend in Sandy is so little it's not worth the inventory slot to keep it. Really, the movement speed thing doesn't bother me a whole hell of a lot, if I were terribly concerned with it I'd have leveled THF so I could Flee.
I'm with Aksannyi on this one. I've been Rank 10 for almost a year now, I have probably 100k CP, and I don't have an Aketon. I don't spend a whole lot of time in Windy as it is, and if I do, I'm in and out pretty fast. (Warp from Whitegate to Port Windy, walk to where I need to go, then Warp back to Whitegate. Doesn't take long at all.) Wouldn't mind having them for my mules, but even then a mule hop and run to the AH doesn't take that long really. (Hell, in Sandy you can fall out of Port Sandy MH and be at the AH already! lol)
I used to think they looked pretty sweet, but these days if I'm just wandering around, I do it in my Pimp Suit. (I like how the Fire Staff matches perfectly with RDM AF.) Taru in my LS when he wanders the world, he used to go as BLM in his Sandy Aketon and looked pretty sweet. Chubby Taru dressed in red and black! lol

Yar, I know these days it probably doesn't matter much to the general populace (I have one on my main, and all but one of my mules sports thier nations as well), but like I said, that one incongruent fact struck me like a Mack truck and I couldn't just ignore it for some strange reason. Not sure why, but I just had to correct it (in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't even have any effect whatsoever).
Everyone has thier moments when thier world stops until they correct some minor, insignificant thing, and this one just happend to be mine today. -.-'
