I'm a 48 ninja and I have a problem with choosing what katanas I wish to use. You see, I have one Yoto+1 and two Sais'. Should I just dual weild the sais or main or sub the yoto when fighting upcoming robber crabs.
One other question, should I be doing more than the Elemental Wheel if I can keep the hate like cast Hojo: Ni and such? I've not recently because I cannot keep the hate in some cases.

Ninjaly?
/sigh
Anyway.... the wheel helps to maintain hate if you have trouble doing so. If you already keep hate quite well, it's not completely mandatory to use it, though some mages may ask you to weaken a particular element so they can enfeeble.

I used Sai/Yoto+1 combo and it seemed to work fine for me. I had capped parry
so I felt the parry bonus would help me out. If you don't have capped parry or
fairly close to cap I would use 2 Yoto +1, or I would try to get close to the cap.
I have read that 2 Yoto+1 can really help the party out against crabs, but I did
fine with Sai/Yoto+1.
I always cast Blind and Slow during the fight. I feel that not only does it give you
more hate, but it will also help you keep your shadows up.
edit - I just wanted to add that I cast blind and slow in addition to using the wheel.

Ninja is supposed to be dark and stealthy. You made it sound "cute". lol

Well, I figured that the enfeebles were a given. I do so all the time regardless.

Psh.
But I will do Blind and Slow when there's not a Red Mage or something I suppose. My parrying is about 9 levels behind cap, soooo, one sai/yoto+1 or just get two yoto+1
btw I'ma still wear sais for sexiness.

I've decided in these five minutes. Yoto+1 x2 and sais for off-party sexiness.
ni elementals should be pretty useful at that level. that's when they are hitting for 80-100ish each. very good for holding hate. enfeebles is a must, not just for hate, but to keep you as efficient as possible.
what sort of hate problems are you having? if hate is being pulled after you do all that and provoke, whoever it is needs to calm down. pulling hate is not a good thing... i dont know why other melee or mages thing its a symbol of strength when they can pull hate on purpose. i just causes problems for the whole party.

The elemental wheel also help speeding up the killing too. Some exp mob like Robber Carb (popular for xp parties from lvl 52 ~ 58) which has high defense, having both katana attack and element wheel works very well, depends on which buff the carb is using.

I tell them that. But most don't listen. I understand when a Monk does with Raging Fists, but a black mage shouldn't be nuking at start of a fight. I let them die like I have been after I warn them once. I'm not gona bust my ass off for someone that wishes to be difficult. ^^
I aggree, I MB for 100+ on Rumblers in the Nest and on beetles over in Quicksand Caves.
and I know what's in store for me on 50+ got a couple jobs past 60

But then DD can't do the ZOMGBBQ numbers in damage and brag to their friends
and linkshell. That is what is important right? Nevermind that holding back a little
and helping with hate control will make the party more efficient and you will
get more experience per hour. /sarcasm off

very true, no zomgbbqing allowed!
when i lurk in other forums, theres always the type starts like...
"yea so, im in cn and pretty much the tank couldnt keep hate off me..." or "... yea so what gears should i get for lv. 53 because, right now with my attack gear no tank can keep hate off me and i end up tanking the whole fight lolz'
why is this a good thing? you die, your party waits for you to res. you get hate, mages heal you more, they rest, and you wait...
i never understood that mentality.

For DD, I think balance is the key: It is like "how fast the mob dies" vs "amount of MP + resource is used."
If the DD(s) pulls hate from the tank, becomes a MP sink, and the speed of killing the mob only improves very little, then the DD(s) does something wrong.
If the DD(s) pulls hate from the tank, and the speed of killing the mob improves a lot, then it depends on how much downtime is going to cost. If the condition is safe and only a small extra amount is required, then I think it is a good trade off for speeding up the kill.
It is sad that some DD has the "zomgbbqing" mentality. The good ones will know how to ride the hate line, also using Defender or swap in defensive gear, or using shadows (if /NIN), Third Eye (SAM), Chakra (MNK), run behind PLD for Cover, etc to reduce the amount of damage they take.
In order to gain experience points, the mob has to die.
There is a difference between the DD who goes "zomgbbqing" and the DD who needs to hold back because the Tank failed to reach the true potential for pushing the hate limit.

I know for sure how a DD works cause I played some for the years before I started ninja leveling seriously. But I always controled my hate, not doing retarded things like Souleater mid fight or something. Every dark knight I've partied with does that mid battle and I yell at them everytime until they die and whine that I did not keep hate. Then I called them stupid.
