Can you allow individual server migrations? Perhaps for a certain fee (a la WoW)?

the problems that i would see with this is there are sometimes quite signifcant economy differences between servers. If server migrations were possible it'd cause all sortsa hell, at least over the medium term (a few months) until the servers balenced.

Take a billion gil from a high gil, expensive item server. Migrate to a low gil cheap item server, buy many items, return to high gil expensive item server. Sell items make a mint. Restricting the number of trasfers wouldn't work, as people would just do it with different characters/accounts. Even with a fee, unless it was horribly extortionate, you can see the main group who'd be able to abuse such a system.

Not that i wouldn't mind seeing it, i just can't see it happening at this stage.

aye, there would be some problems to work out, but hey they're developers, that's what they're good for ;)

maybe they could make it a one way, one time deal (like what they do with character restore).

Actually, as long as they impose a fee like EQ did people would be less likely to change servers just to make a little gil. EQ charges I think 50 bucks per character. This way it's still possible if you have a good reason to transfer, but not likely just to make some money

Hmm, thought it was $25.00 with a 6 month wait to transfer them again.

Anyway only thing about letting players move at will between servers is you know they'll start segregating themselves, then you'll have load issues and increased chances for server failures. What'll disappoint me is allowing that seems like it could just further reduce the chances of interacting with gamers from other regions.

Perhaps SE could make a really long, expencive(Gil-wise), annoying quest that opened a "Paralell Dimension" that let a character change servers. This would let a character switch if they really, really wanted to, but it would be to much of a hassle to expploit and everyone could do it, not just the rich in real.

It wouldn't work unless you have the following restrictions.

-$25 fee for a character transfer (Remember, RMTs would rather not bleed out IRL money since they're used to getting the better end of a short stick)

-All transfers are not immediate and subject to review by an actual GM (WoW has their CMs review eacn and every transfer and if you go to the account screen to do this, it will actually tell you how long it will take to do this and in my case, the wait time was quick at only one hour)

-Only one transfer allowed per content ID every 6 months.

The second point is crucial. Suspected RMT characters will be denied and any player with "markings" on their accounts, either from temp bannings or warnings from GM will have a likely chance that their requests will be denied. And it's not just a problem on one content ID, but an actual marking on the ACCOUNT.
