Hello Final Fantasy members ^^ Recently I have been having some technical difficulties with the update. On my other computer, getting the update was fine, but on my computer it's having some little problems ever since my cousin downloaded a lot of stuff (which I made sure I deleted ever bit of).

Back to the point, there is like 2 or 3 parts to updating I think. The first part says updating, and second is downloading, and the third is installing. On this update there was 2 update parts. The 1st one was successful, but as soon as the other one starts, I get this message every time: "Problems with the HDD data were detected. Version Update failed."

THINGS THAT I'VE TRIED TO DO:

1. I went to the QandA section and I typed "HDD" and one of the topics was this: Q11865I am having problems updating PlayOnline and FINAL FANTASY XI. (https://secure.playonline.com/polapps/s/s.kb.html.Qa?ZUID=3&polg_loc=en&id=1865&qs=id%3D0%26c1%3D0%26c2%3D0%26k%3DHDD%26s%3D0%26o% 3D0%26term%3D0%26caseNum%3D10%26polg_loc%3Den)

So I clicked it and it said this:

1. Make sure that the HDD is properly connected.
2. Make sure that both the PlayStation(R)2 and HDD power lights are on.
3. Make sure your equipment is turned on and properly configured.
4. Make sure your networking hardware has the latest firmware revision. Contact the hardware manufacturer for more information.
5. Change the MTU Value. If your connection is unstable, try reducing the MTU value. Depending on the changes you make, you may have to restart the PlayOnline Viewer.

I have no idea how I am suppose to do these steps. Also, I'm using a laptop so the PS2 statement doesn't matter in this case.

2. I tried uninstalling POL. Then I reinstalled it and the same message was there.

If you can, please help me. =[

Thank you for your time,
-Coldrain

Sounds to me like there is a file corruption.

From POL you can verify the installed files, I think it's called "Check Files" or something similar. It may be worth verifying your complete installation (POL, FFXI and that card game) as the error suggests it has tried to compare your existing files and has failed to read something correctly.

If it is a file corruption then you wil have to re-installed FFXi from scratch.

I took your advice and I checked the files for PlayOnline, Final Fantasy XI, and Tetra Master. In the end, it detected no problems. SO I uninstalled Play Online, Final Fantasy, and Tetra Master. During the update on Play Online, it was good. When you it got to Step 2 for Downloading, it said the same message: "Problems with the HDD data were detected. Version Update failed."

Any other ideas, anyone?

run a disk check on the HD to see if there are any errors. also defragment while you're at it

Err... :worry:

in windows explorer, right click the drive letter and go to the properties menu
under the Tools tab there is an option for Error-checking (and Defragmentation)
push the Check Now button, check-off Automatically fix errors and Scan bad sectors, hit start
