I don't exactly deficate money, so I'm wondering how much RAM would be "enough" for FFXI. Sure, I could throw in two gigs of rambus at the expense of not eating for 5 years, but I'd much rather be more efficient. Any ideas on how much RAM FFXI gobbles with high quality graphic settings on, at 1024 x 768 resolution? X3 I use windows XP home with all the unnecessary background services and processes turned off.

I have to use identical RIMMs, so I could either get two 64 MB, or two 128 MB without feeling too guilty about wasting entire RIMMs...

Windows alone will take up 250 megs of ram if your computer can handle it. I'd say at least 512 megs total if you want to see the high end details.
