I started playing FFXI back in 04 for only about 2 weeks, i left home for 3 months, came back and the CD's were thrown away. Recently ive been interested in getting back into FFXI but, no disks. I do not have a speedy internet service, only like 100k. But im wondering if there is any way to get PlayOnline other than having to use the disks. I'm hoping PlayOnline will let me download FFXI. If not, i would at least like to get a hold of it.

There is no legal way that I know of... I have been seeking a JP POL download myself.
You can try a Torrent (violation of the rules to post a site), but those may be fakes or even viruses.
Best to ask a friend or buy a new one, cannot be too expensive these days.

As far as I know, downloading POL isn't illegal. You don't even need to pay their monthly fees to access POL.
Although if your account has been deleted from inactivity, you'll just have to buy another version of the game anyway - to get the registration codes.

How long before they delete your account anyway?

I've been *considering* the possibility of getting a JP version of POL and FFXI myself. Never really looked into it, though. It just seems like something that would be out of character for SE, and I don't feel like digging around the Internet, IRC, and every other medium I can think of to get it. Maybe I can get the JP CD's here in Taiwan...? It may be faster than the alternative.
Edit: Hmm... Found FF11+Expansions (JP Ver.) for $45. To buy or not to buy...
Edit 2: Even has a Taru 16BLM and 100,000 Gil (does this count as selling an account?). I think I'd just stick with my old one, thank you. And, responding to below poster, yes, the motivation is to type in Japanese (even though I only speak Chinese).
neighbortaru>> yeah it does count as selling an account. I'd be very careful of such auctions - the reg codes could have already been used

Why are you guys after the JP version of playonline anyway?

To type in Japanese, probably. They disabled the ability to type in Japanese on the north american/european versions.

I am after the Japanese POL because I moved to another state and left my JP CD in a box with someone I don't like.
I have a JP account and cannot edit my info or add expansions without the JP version. Oddly, I have the NA CDs in a case with me.
This does me no good. ^^;
EDIT:
And to type in Japanese on occasion.
