Hello, I am getting the game hopfully tommorow, first of all I want some 2 other newbies to join my gang or anyone really, second of all Im stuck between choosing Warrior or Mage.
Is there any way or as you progress through levels you can become half and half?

I am looking towards clouds side of things really, or possibly Kadaj's so mostly Warrior.
I need help though, could you give me some tips about what to do when I start the game also, and on top of that, whats the link to get a PlayOnline account? Is it possible to get it before I get the game?

One at a time, here are my attempts:

You can swap jobs at any time (in your Mog House) so it's not like you have to choose flat-out. Play a little of each and see what is more fun. I started as a RDM and I thought that was my road, forever, amen. But I grew bored with it, as most people do with their very first job.

There are some jobs that play like a fighter/mage hybrid. Some teeter more towards fighter and some toward mage. Paladins, Dark Knights, Ninjas, Blue Mages, and possibly even Dragoon (with a mage sub, maybe as a Taru) come to mind off the top of my head. They actually cast and fight (in-different ways) so they are a bit of each. Those are all Advanced jobs though, so worry about leveling WAR, WHM, etc. to get a feel for things and to get some levels on your future sub-jobs.

If you're leaning toward a fighter-type, but still want to dabble a bit in casting, oddly Samurai use so many weapon skills that they need a good bit of knowledge about elemental property and skill chaining. It's not really casting, but it's more than just fighting, with the Tactical (Technique?) Points you need to charge and manage.

When you start, don't mash the arrow keys and wonder why you can't move; use the number pad. Always have gate guards cast "Signet" on you so that you can get crystals. Buy gear from NPCs when possible, and (almost always) sell things at the Auction House for better profits. Get an Empress Band from the gate guards as soon as you can. Start crafting early if you're going to do it. Don't beg for money. Learn the commands (study your manual) and make some macros.

I wouldn't worry about setting up a POL account until you get everything installed and ready to go. It'll take you through the process step-by-step.

That's all I can get off the top of my head for now. Don't be afraid to ask questions (in-game or in RL).

Moving around the mob doesn't increase the chance of it missing, thats not how it works. Just wanted to let ya know about that ^^b

This is NOT like any other Final Fantasy game, so try to play with as little expectations as possible.

Dark Knights primarily use Great Swords, similar to Cloud. Samurais use Great Katanas, similar to Kadaj. Dark Knights use magic, whereas Samurai do not. Both are fine choices for beginners, and you'll want to take Warrior to 30 so you can use it as a sub job.

The basic starting strategy is to take your first job's sub job to 18, unlock the sub job, then take your main job to 30 or 37 before unlocking an advanced job. At that point you'll have a sufficient main and sub job combination until you really start to get the hang of things.

Let whatever you find stack to 12, then sell it at the AH for better money than you would at an NPC. Check around for quests that might have nice rewards for beginners.

oh, and don't forget to obsesively sort your inventory. You'll regret it if you don't.

Some advice:

Don't try and name yourself after a FF character. Someone else has already taken all of the variations on the name, and all you'd be able to get would be some terribly mutilated derivation.

Would I get my account taken away?...if I did..

Ok, Im not going to, its just usually with games like these (MMORPG) they usually ban your account like I did with City of Heroes, for a laugh named ironman, yeh...lol

FF Admins must be kind lol:biggrin:

Aelathir beat me to it. It's obvious that you like Cloud and Kadaj, but we've already got 1000 of them and their grannies. Come up with something original and everyone will appreciate it more.

That's the spirit. We're not trying to sound harsh, but once you get into the game you'll see what we mean. Don't get me wrong, we all love us some FF characters (see: my avatar). It just won't help you to be lost in a sea of Clouds, Sephiroths, or what-have-yous.

I don't know anything about sever pops, i'm new also. :)
I use the name Telal as I've used it for years.
Kinda funny to me to see my overly cute Tarutaru running around with Telal over it's head and knowing the Sumerian translation of Telal is "Wicked Demon". :P

and never throw away those beastman seals you'll want them later and they can seriously help your income. they stack to 99 and don't take up much space in your Moghouse. Keep them, they might seem useless right now, but when you need an astral ring later, they could save you millions of gil.

ANd always, always always, exp with signet cast on you, in the beginning, selling stacks of crystals makes great money.
