Hi everyone Just thought I would have a little rant while I'm here.
Right I'm a lvl12 Whm and decided it was time to got to the dunes and party, I got all my spells and some decent equipment and also got my stats fairly high for my level.
Anyway I play this game for fun and my own enjoyment and allthough I want to get as far as I can, Allthough I'm sensing the end of FFXI is nigh my main goal is to enjoy myself on remora.
Back to my issue well after I got to the dunes I waited ages for a party and eventually got an offer. the party already had a Whm at a higher level than me. I was the only person with a map of the dunes too, I told the leader I hadnt partied before and he said it was cool and he seemed really understanding. so I asked the group what the strategy was so i had an idea of who was doing what.

anyway "sorry for this"

the team all had a right go at me and I was still not sure of who was to be where and what ever. The thing that got me most annoyed was the other Whm. nobody had informed me if i was main healer or not.
So:wtf:
the battles started and the other whm did nothing i had cast protect on everyone and aquaveil on myself so had used some mp already. during the battle only i was curing EVERYONE! dragging hate to me and getting myself clattered. I finally ran out of mp and realised the otrher whm was still doing nothing. so i said in party chat "no mp left "name of other whm" please take over I'm resting.

So I begin to rest and the party members are shouting at me to get up. as far as I know a whm job is to keep everyone alive and without mp I cant do it, the other whm had done nothing ALL battle so just before people died i used benediction wich got me killed. I made my way back to where we were and the fight was still going on and allthough i wasnt in the party anymore I felt obliged to stand at the side and heal them all till it was over. then I realised nobody was telling the other whm off he hadnt contributed at all to the battle no buffs cuz i did it beforehand no cures no banish or para! so they invited me again but I declined,
I said I'm sorry but I'm not going to party with you "other whm" is doing bugger all and i dont think i should help him leech exp from our hard work. then i said allthough I'm a newbie I worked my ass off for you guys and you were rude so i will leave you and tell "whm" that WHM is a JOB and with a job you do WORK! then I left

I always thought it was a game and thought some people take this game way too serious, but after that experience I now realise even as a casual player why people get so frustrated!

sorry for the BIG rant congrats if you got this far, I just needed to vent my anger because my bf doesnt understand what im on about lol.

and so to the main point of the thread

Was I wrong in what i was doing? Was I doing my job wrong? Was i wrong not to go back with them? why did they pick on me and not the lazy WHM with full mp and health?

thanks in advance for any advice you give

Love and hugs Galen from Remora xxx

The way I read it, you weren't doing anything wrong, you just had a very unorganized party and you weren't informed of what was going on. Add into the mix that this was a Dunes party, where the good parties are few and far between because most people mistakenly believe they know everything there is to know about a job they've only played for about 10 levels, and you've got a recipe for some nasty parties. All you can do is get up and keep going (preferably with a better party!).

Good luck! :)

No.
Was I doing my job wrong?
I'd like to just say "no" here, but without knowing what the rest of the party was doing, and the specifics of how you were doing yours (lots of Cure vs. fewer Cure II, for example), it's hard to say. If you want specific advice, there needs to be specific information. I'll give some generalities at the end of the post.
Was i wrong not to go back with them?
Not at all.
why did they pick on me and not the lazy WHM with full mp and health?
Because you were partied with five human beings. Human beings vary in age, gender, environment, temperament, intelligence, time zone, experience, generosity... You get the idea.

Some general tips. Especially in the Dunes, it's hard to formulate one curing strategy that works in every party. But usually you'll be better off using Cure a few times than using Cure II once. Also, don't heal the tank until he's taken enough damage to warrant it. In other words, more than 30 HP of damage. This is a bit extreme, but if you Cure him for 28 HP, you've wasted some MP (after battle go ahead and just fill him up).

Rest whenever you can. Don't stand up as soon as the puller's back, unless you're full on MP or someone desparately needs cured. Ginger Cookies are your friend, as is a Pilgrim's Wand if you can find someone to help you get it (or if you have a level 20 job yourself; I'd be happy to help sometime). Rest mid-battle when you can. Even if you have to stand right back up again. Anytime you manage to get in that one tick of rested MP, that's another Cure and a half.

If your tank isn't provoking every 30 seconds... he needs to. Good luck with that; you'll either get someone who is receptive to advice and understands the concept, or you won't. You might consider ditching the party if you have the latter kind of "tank."

If you ever find yourself wondering if you're main healing, the answer is yes. That's what a WHM is. Even if there are two of you. You'll (hopefully) only find 2-WHM parties in the Dunes, and there, two main healers might not be such a bad thing. You can either take turns or just split things up, but that's best asked as "Do you want to take turns healing or just split it up?"

If your party doesn't understand that you need MP, and won't listen, leave. Try to explain it, but if they just won't cooperate, don't put yourself through it. You can solo for better XP at that level than you can get in a crappy party (buy a hammer and some Selbina Milk, and maybe some DEF or ATK food for soloing). Note that you shouldn't need full MP for most fights. Look at how much you use in the first couple fights to find out how much you really need.
