Okay...I haven't logged in here in a long time, but I'm back, and I'm doing some really awesome new stuff with FFXI.

If you have stereoglasses for the computer, YOU right now are the luckiest wo/man in the world. I'm working on some stereo images for Final Fantasy XI. I'm not just having an ego trip when I say that these are the best things ever. I didn't even sleep last night until 7:00AM I was working on them so hard, just because they're so cool.

The images are in Stereo Portable Network Graphics (PNS) format, so they're slightly hefty (about 1MB a piece.) They have been gamma, levels, exposure, and contrast corrected for my monitor and eyes, but they should be reasonably good on any stereo viewing system. I am viewing them with eDimensional wireless 3d shutterglasses, so if you use any other system, I can't guarantee that they're any good. To view them, I use the nVidia Stereo Viewer application, which comes free with any edition of nVidia's Stereo Drivers.

So if you have some stereoglasses, I highly highly highly highly highly highly recommend you check out my sample image, which you can download at:

And if you don't have stereoglasses and you have a CRT (non flat panel) monitor, GO GET SOME. They're cheap and they work as long as your monitor has a refresh rate over 100Hz (I'd recommend 120Hz for low eye strain.) But they're really really awesome.

If you can do parallel viewing, you can try this small version:

What exactly are those stereoglasses thingies? I have no clue what you're talking about =o

Oh, nvm, its the blue and red glasses lol, so do you need special ones or just the regular cardboard ones? lol

There are two types of 3d glasses.

There are the red/blue ones you get at movie theaters sometimes. These are decent, though I have NOT tried them with these pictures before. Ever. These are called "anaglyph" by the way.

And then there're the LCD shutterglasses. These work by synching up with your monitor and blacking out one of your eyes during each refresh. For example, if your monitor refreshes 60 times per second, these glasses will black out your left eye for refresh 1 3 5 7 9 etc. and your right eye for 2 4 6 8 10 etc. Your monitor will be in synch with the glasses and will display, on refresh 1 3 5 7 9 etc., the image for your right eye (since your left is blanked out,) and, on refresh 2 4 6 8 10, the image for your left eye (since your right is blanked out.) If you have some

If you have some anaglyph (red/blue) glasses, I can formulate the images to be compatible with them if you like. Since I don't know the EXACT colors of YOUR glasses, it may not work perfectly.

If you can scale down the images a lot people will be able to experience it without the special equipment. By just relaxing your eyes until both images become one you can achieve the same effect, but if the images are too large it becomes too large of a strain on the eyes.

Edit:
Nevermind, he's got a better example up.

Good idea. I had forgotten about that.

Okay. Done. But honestly, I'm unimpressed with how it works. But it gives you a VERY general idea.

Give it a shot. I don't know how skilled you guys are at this, but I was able to do it.

Yeah. Sadly FFXI doesn't support stereo, so I had to do some modifications to make it work.

Heh, sounds almost like Progressive Scan on the TVs (I know it isn't a profound difference is that shift occuring in the image for each eye to perceive). In a small way though it's almost similar.
