Actually, the Japanese and English versions (and I assume the EU version as well) are localized and incompatible with each other. If you registered your account under the JP client, you're going to have to use the JP versions for all your clients and expansions upgrades.

I know of at least one person who had to start over with a new account because they imported the JP FFXI version before it was released in the USA and wanted the English client more than they wanted their character.

Yeah, that's possible as long as you've already created the account/characters. I know for a fact that registering an EU account on a NA client doesn't work, it doesn't recognize the keys or something.

If you already have an account, it shouldn't matter WHERE you log in from, right? Wether it be any platform, or in this case, any version.

I'm guessing though, that for any other future expansion, they HAVE to be ENG versions since all your others are ENG as well. That, I'm not sure of.

I use a NA account with EU software, NA on JP should also be fine - all you need to remember is that you cant edit your content IDs or register new software to an ID from another region.

So if you have all current expansions, say, and you were an NA importer to the UK (and subsequently bought all the expansions and imported them to the UK, and registered all the codes from those expansions on the same ID) you could quite easily buy the EU Xbox 360 version and play all the areas you have registered to your NA ID, and the EU codes on the 360 version would remain untouched.

If, however, you did the same, but dont for example have CoP registered to your NA ID, but you obviously have the EU CoP code with the 360 version of FFXI then you cannot register the EU code, for your NA ID, or access the areas until you have registered a NA CoP registration code on your NA ID.

A little confusing, but in answer to the original OP, yes, you can login to any version of FFXI (PS2 / 360 / PC / JP / EU / NA) and play, but the areas you will be able to access will be wholly dependant on what codes you have registered to your own ID. You will not however be able to manage content IDs or register expansions on the newly installed JP client, you will have to access whichever version you originally created your ID to cancel / update / change IDs or register new content.

My FFXI is registered under japanese account. Here are what I do/know.

In my PC, I have
- NA version of POL, FFXI and all expansion installed.
- JP Version of POL.... only POL, nothing else.
- No need to do anything fancy here. The installer let me have 2 version of POL. The FFXI however is what will get complicated if you try to install more than 1 version.

- I can use NA FFXI to play my Japanese account just fine. I can login, create, delete characters.

- But to access my account, I need to use Japanese POL. For example, purchasing/calcelling contents ID, changing my account password, edit billing informations, registering expansion, I need to do these in JP POL.

- For all expansion, I also need to import Japanese version of ZM COP ToA too for the reg keys. NA reg keys don't work.

So basicly I need to buy 2 version of the game no matter what. JP version for the keys, NA version for the actual installation and playing.
That is why I have my mule on a seperate account registered under NA version. Just so all those boxes I have don't go to waste.

Ah, thats good to know Jei, that you can have two different versions of POL, even tho you can only have one version of FFXI.

also with both versions of POL instaqlled, you can log into FFXI with eather POL version and get the same effect, like log into FFXI with JP POL and BAM you got JP FFXI

To make it clear:

You CAN log in with a JP client
You CANNOT modify your account with a JP client. This includes:
-Creating Content IDs (Characters)
-Deleting Content IDs
-Registering Content Ids (Expansions)
