I'm thinking about getting ffxi and i was wondering what all you need to get going. I'm ok with electronics and stuff but i'm not super. So could someone give me like a fairly detailed list of things that I need to play and their prices. Don't you need some type of expansion pack that allows you to playonline?

any help will be greatly appreciated.

thanks

ps. does anyone have a suggestion of what type of race i should be or what job i should take up?

ok lets see.....

FFXI with HDD $99
CoP expansion $30
ToUA expansion $30
network adapter $40-60 (cant remember)
old model PS2 (not the new slim one)
$13 a month and a Credit Card
(PS you dont need expansions unless you want access to everything there is ot offer)

and for your race, it all boils to what you want to llok at all the time :p just wait till you get it and look at the diffrent ones when makeing your charater, and if you like to RP

general Race aditude based off NPCs
Hume (normal)
Elvaan (stuckup)
Tarutaru (cute/playful)
Galka (tough/manly)
Mithra (playful/curiouse)

Do you just connect your ps2 to your modem with a cat-5 cable?

kind of... you need to coneect the network adapter to the Hard drive that comes with FFXI, then you place it in the back where there is a slot for it to fit in. then you should beable to access FFXI to get it updated and all that jazz

Once you have all the equipment (HDD, Network Adapter) and you get ready to play, you will have to download all the updates, and that will take quite some time. It took mine 3-4 hours to get all the updates and intall them.
