(Righto, then. I figured that, since this is a social lounge, then I could do something to spice it up a bit. So, I shall chronical the random adventures of DoD (Commenly known as Duo Of Death, just for kicks. >_>))

Sotaka sits in the Merry Minstral, listening to his friend Gothic talk on about the people in the area.

Gothic: "Why not her? She has good measurements."
Sotaka: "..."
Gothic: "Not your type? Oh well..."
Sotaka: "...Gothic, stop..."
Gothic: "Well, why not her? I know you like mithra..."

The mithra walks over, hits gothic upside the head with a harp, and then returns to playing on the stage. The sudden stop caught a few people off guard, but it was somewhat normal for something or someone to hit gothic whenever he went to the Merry Minstral.

Sotaka: "Thank you."
Gothic: "oww...."

Gothic rubs at his head, but just tunes the pain out before returning to his normal routine of fooling around.

Sotaka: "Gothic, would you cease this already and just get to the mission?"
Gothic: "Sheesh, alright, alright, we'll go hunting for someone for you later..."
Sotaka: "I told you, I'm not interested in that!"

Sotaka sighs, but gothic just laughs as he pulls out a piece of parchment with a seal of Aht Urghan on it.

Sotaka: "Oh, great, another one of those jobs?"
Gothic: "Yea, it's two people who need someone to go along with them on a quick mission. Shouldn't be too hard, right?"
Sotaka: "I guess, but what's in it for us?"
Gothic: "Well, nothing, really, I just like to show off."
Sotaka: "...And I assume you already accepted?"
Gothic: "Yup!"
Sotaka: "You know, I should really do all the thinking for the both of us..."

And with that, the duo heads off for Aht Urghan Whitegate.

Upon their arrival, they were greeted by Laublaciant and Reaubluvian. Of course, Sotaka had met Laublaciant quite a few times before, but it had been some time since they had last spoken. Sotaka had a strange tendancy to try and eat Laublaciant's armor, so Laublaciant tended to avoid Sotaka like the plague.

Deciding to skip the formalities, Sotaka jumps right into questioning on the mission aspects of the fights they were in store for.

Laublaciant: "Well, while we could usually take 6 people, there's no one else suicidal eno--- I mean, brave enough to go along on this mission request with us, so we needed two others who would join in."
Sotaka: "And those "Two others"... Us, right?"
Laublaciant: "Yup, you two are going to be our support..."
Gothic: "Bah, we could duo this thing."
Sotaka: "Gothic, less talking, more gathering supplies."
Gothic: "fine.."

Gothic walks off, as Sotaka continues his discussion with Laublaciant.

Laublaciant: "Anyways, Gothic aside, we have a basic enough mission: Just rescue a prisoner from the Mamool Ja area."
Sotaka: "They could get some basic people for this..."
Laublaciant: "AHEM... I'm the one they hired..."
Sotaka: "Oh, good point."
Laublaciant: "Wait a second..."

Sotaka grins to himself and heads for the warp, Laublaciant fumes behind him as he continues to gather his own supplies.

Upon their arrival inside of Mamool Ja, they instantly make a sprint for the area where the Mamool Ja's kept the prisoners. Of course, with Laublaciant and Reaubluvian, their effectiveness might be hindered a bit with the additional confusions. However, they still had a mission to complete.

They sneak by the Mamool Ja's guards, looking for the cells. Unfortunately, each one had a gate in front of it, with the exception of an empty cell here and there. Gothic looks at the Mamool ja's, and then examines what's in their pockets.

Sotaka, on the other hand, was examining the gate. For some reason, there wasn't a key hole on the gates. Furthermore, Gothic couldn't find a key on the Mamool Ja's. With this in mind, they decided to "interrogate" one of the Mamool Ja's.

Pulling one of them over to the door, Laublaciant made an excellent distraction for the Mamool Ja. Meanwhile, gothic sneaks up behind it again and pull out one of his daggers. Quickly pulling him dagger around, he presses it to the Mamool Ja's throught.

Gothic: "Now, talk, how do we get in these doors?"
Mamool Ja: "..."
Gothic: "What, not going to talk...?"

Gothic presses his dagger harder against the mamool ja's neck. A small stream of blood runs down his dagger and drips onto the floor.

Gothic: "If I cut you right here, you'll die of a lack of oxygen. It'll be a slow, painful death, somewhat similar to drowning... Now, don't you want to live? You had best tell us if you hope to."

The mamool ja broke out into a cold sweat. He slowly opened his mouth to speak.

Mamool Ja: "Break... the door... with our weapons..."

However, another Mamool Ja runs up and puts his axe into his comrade's skull. Gothic quickly released the dagger, looking over to the other Mamool Ja.

Mamool Ja: "Traitors will not be tolerated. Intruders will not be tolerated."

The Mamool Ja prepares his axe.

Gothic: "...Damn it, I was going to kill him!"

Gothic runs up to the Mamool Ja, charging with both of his blades drawn. He wasn't really the type who fought directly, but instead moved hastily and evaded attacks, sneaking in multiple cuts along the way. He lands hits in vital places, such as severing the connective tissue between the muscle and the bones.

Piece by piece, he causes the Mamool's Ja's arms and legs to fall limp and lifeless. He was literally crippling the mamool ja, inflicting pain in any way possible.

Of course, the Mamool Ja's aren't quite known for their intelligence. This one was still trying to grip it's axe, but was loosing the grip slowly. So, instead of just dropping the axe, it spins it's body and launches the axe at gothic.

Gothic, having been caught off guard, looks shocked as he takes a step back. The axe makes a direct contact with his face - Or so the Mamool Ja thought. This gothic shatters into pieces and dissapears into the air, and the axe continues on into the wall, breaking it down.

Reappearing behind the Mamool Ja, Gothic thrusts his dagger into it's spine. The Mamool Ja falls over, dead from both blood loss and the sudden severing of the spine.

Gothic: "Now... About that Door..."
Sotaka: "... Gothic, what door are we talking about again?"
Gothic: "The one that's in ... the ... way...?"

Gothic looks at the door, only to see the ruble of it. Sotaka runs in, jumping over the rubble, and then opens the hatch of the cell. Unfortunately, it was completely empty.

Gothic: "I think it explodes from my sheer awesomeness."
Sotaka: "No, it was shattered by the axe that cut through your shadow..."
Gothic: "Same thing, isn't it?"
Sotaka: "Less talking, gothic, we don't have time for this."
Laublaciant: "At least we know how to handle these doors now..."

Sotaka begins thinking to himself: "These two won't be effective for this type of strategy... we need to split up."

Sotaka looks to Laublaciant.

Sotaka: "Laub, you and your friend go use the same technique near another door. Gothic and I will head northward the other cells and try to fight there."
Gothic: "Alright! Duo of Death!"

Gothic yells out noisely. He might as well have been announcing that there was an intruder in the area, as he really put his loudest voice into it.

Gothic: "Wooh! That feels better!"
Sotaka: "Would you quiet down?! this isn't the merry minstral - getting the attention of everything isn't a good idea!"
Gothic: "Well, at least I get the attention of the ladies..."
Sotaka: "...God you're an idiot sometimes!"

Of course, they return to sneaking once more. They head northward - There was a good cell right in the middle of two other passages that they could see. Sotaka starts to rest, Gothic runs off and grabs a Mamool Ja with a staff.

Fighting this Mamool Ja was pathetic. Four Gothics surrounded it, and it swings it's staff desperately just to hit one. Gothic's shadows acted with a mind of their own, easily avoiding each attack.

When it thought it could sneak an attack off, sotaka chants a spell that instantly removed it's speaking abiltiy. The very air around it seemed to be sucked out every time it attempted to chant - it was a basic silence spell.

Gothic grinned. The mage Mamool Ja's were really nothing without their chanting abilities. Each shadow continued to make a joke of the Mamool Ja, one stabbing it in the leg, laughing, and then evading the attack. another tapping it's shoulder from the back, and then laughing as it continues to attempt to attack. They do this mocking action, continually evading each attack it attempted to make at gothic.

The shadow gothics slowly close in on the Mamool Ja. However, In a last ditch effort, The Mamool Ja spins in a circle, knocking the shadow gothic's out, and then throws the staff with full-force at the real gothic. Unfortunately, gothic was one of the fastest thieves you would ever meet, and he simply ducked out of the way.

As the staff slams into the gate, gothic thrusts his dagger into the heart of the Mamool Ja. He slowly lifts it up, and then pulls it out. Having it's own hart cut open, the Mamool falls over dead.

Sotaka had already rushed into the gate, and opened the cell door. Inside was an Immortal, who graciously thanked them.

Immortal: "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to get out of here."

The immortal casts warp, and then sotaka looks over to gothic.

Sotaka: "...You know, if he could cast warp, why did we have to save him?"
Gothic: "Uhh... Sota... I think we have a problem.."
Sotaka: "I mean, what kind of stupid immortal not only get caught..."
Gothic: "Sota...!"
Sotaka: "But ALSO doesn't know how to use warp in a cage?!"
Gothic: "SOTA!"
Sotaka: "WHA... oh sh..."
Gothic: "RUN!"

Reaubluvian was rushing in from the west side - a large group of Mamool Ja's following him. Each one had a menacing grin on their face as they took turns hitting him in the back. Laublaciant wasn't anywhere near the group - he was chasing behind, attempting to garner the aggression of one or two to help his friend.

Sotaka and gothic take off sprinting to the east - their quick exit would be found there. Gothic was running behind sotaka, due to his severe lack of direction skills and inability to look at a map.

Sotaka arrives at the point that would get the team out quickly, but first.... He opens the treasure chest. Sure, it was an odd time for it, but he and gothic were more interested in money at the time.

They activate the seal, and are instantly warped out to safety.

================================================== ====

Having completed their mission, Gothic and Sotaka return to the Merry Minstral. Gothic, of course, returns to his usual actions.

Gothic: "Sotaka, how about that female hume?"
Sotaka: "Would you cut it out?! I'm not in the mood to listen to you trying to play match-maker!"
Gothic: "Well, why not her? She looks like she's into taru..."
Sotaka: "..."

The hume comes over, hits gothic over the head with the blunt side of her axe, and then walks back over to her drink.

I'd love to, but it's hard to find interesting events in this game to base something off, and it's harder to build one based off random circumstances. >>;

But I'll do what I can, of course.

Working on another part of the story as I type this, I'll edit it on when it's done... which might be soon, depends on how long all this blasted stuff takes to write. (>_>;)

EDIT: OK, I'm getting like... really tired right now. So, here's what I worked on So far.
(I'm going to bug gothic to work on putting up some Character data on Sotaka and Gothic. Just very general stuff, so that they make more sense.)
EDIT#2: I fixed the spaces. ._.

The San d'Orian Betrayal, Epic Loss

For once, Gothic and Sotaka had chosen to gather in the Rusty Anchor tavern of Port San d'Oria. Sotaka already had a seat, and was enjoying a cup of San d'Orian Tea. It never had quite the taste of Windurstrian tea, but it was good for something cooked by an Elvaan.

Gothic walks into the tavern, two Elvaan female's by his side. He laughs as he tells of his adventures. He has a grin on his face as he walks over towards where Sotaka is.

Sotaka: “Up to the usual, Gothic?”
Gothic: “Heheh.. Not today, Sota, the Elvaan are mine.”
Sotaka: “You worry me sometimes...”

Gothic grins to himself. Sotaka shakes his head, somewhat disgusted by Gothic's personality around Elvaan female's.

Sotaka: “Well, that doesn't matter right now... What are we out here for?”

Gothic almost completely ignores Sotaka as he waves goodbye to the Elvaan. He sits down at the table, still laughing at himself.

Sotaka: “Gothic... This isn't really the time for this. If you called me out here to San d'Oria, it has to be something important...”
Gothic: “Yea... But I'm starting to have second thoughts. The mission doesn't seem quite so important right now...”

Gothic was making subtle movements and gestures at the Elvaan around the tavern. Many of them wore royal San d'Orian gear, so it was easy to assume that they were part of the royal army.

Sotaka: “You know, if there's nothing to do here, I think I'm going to head for Windurst.”
Gothic: “Oh? For what?”
Sotaka: “I haven't had any tea from Windurst in a while. San d'Orian is fine and all, but sometimes you really need something from home.”

Sotaka takes another sip of the somewhat bitter tea.

Sotaka: “Besides, you like their Dhamel Steak, for some odd reason. That's always made you an odd-ball of an Elvaan in my book. Most foreigners can't stand it...”

Gothic looks at the meal that was set in front of him, comprising mostly of the meat of a Forest Hare that was hunted out in Ronfaur.

Gothic: “Yea, that's true. I think I could go for something a bit different.”

Gothic stands up, pushing the plate away. He didn't even really need to take a bite of it, he had completely lost his appetite.

Gothic: “Alright, then, To Windurst!”

He quickly runs out the door.

Sotaka: “Ah, Gothic? Wait... I haven't finished my tea... Gah!”

Sotaka yells out angrily, as he drops his cup on the table and runs after Gothic for the airship.

Arriving at the tavern in Windurst, Sotaka quickly orders a Windurstrian Tea. Gothic sits down awkwardly in one of the chairs, and orders a Dhamel Steak.

Gothic: “Alright, now that we're here...”
Sotaka: “Yea, tell me, what's the deal?”
Gothic: “I'm leaving San d'Oria.”

Sotaka listens to what Gothic says silently.

Gothic: “I can't take it anymore... The Elvaan continue to blindly follow the king to their death. The conspiracies of the church... Everything just doesn't make sense.... And it's all corrupted...!”

Sotaka shakes his head.

Sotaka: “Well, I was originally sent over as a spy of Windurst. So, I've never been to fond of San d'Oria myself...”
Gothic: “I never was able to get over that you were a spy this entire time.”

Sotaka chuckles to himself. One of the waitresses brings the tea and steak, and Sotaka picks up the cup and sips at the tea lightly.

Sotaka: “'Infiltrate the ranks of the San d'Orian army. Retrieve data on their forces. See to it that you do not get caught. Report in regularly.' I never did figure out why they had me sending in those reports, but I'm assuming it had something to do with their fear of an invasion from San d'Oria.”

Sotaka takes another sip of the tea. The door flings open, and two Elvaan dressed in Royal San d'Orian armor walk in.

Gothic: “San d'Orians in Windurst? This is new...”
Male Elvaan: “Oh, don't mind us.”
Female Elvaan: “Yes... We're just here on a vacation. I was hoping to have some of the rare exotic dhamel dishes!”

Gothic raises a curious eye to the female Elvaan.

Gothic: “You wanted to have them? That's nice...”

Gothic picks up one of his daggers from it's sheathe. He slams it down into the table, slicing the meat into two symmetrical halves.

Gothic grins to himself as he pushes the plate over.

Gothic: “Consider it on the house.”

The female Elvaan looks at the plate. The meat didn't look appetizing at all, especially to an Elvaan who spent most of their life in San d'Oria.

Sotaka: “What's the matter? You wanted to try it...”
Gothic: “Yea, help yourself...”

They both laugh to themselves. The female Elvaan puts her hand over her mouth and runs out of the tavern. The male Elvaan looks at the two before running out after her.

Male Elvaan: “Pardon me, but I must tend to her medical needs...!”

He looked just as pale as the Elvaan he arrived with, as he quickly ran out of the tavern.

Sotaka: “I guess they were spies...”
Gothic: “And assuming they heard our conversation... we're in trouble.”
Sotaka: “Yea, we need to get to sandy before they can get a warrant in... Not to mention, there's something we have to take care of.”
Gothic: “?”
Sotaka: “Well, there's something in San d'Oria that I left behind...
Gothic: “bah... Well, I might as well go along with you, anyways... What was it you left behind?”
Sotaka: “An old dagger left to me by a dear friend...”
Gothic: “You're too sentimental sometime, but I guess that's what made you better than the others...”

Gothic walks over to the Mithra bard.

Gothic: “How about a good luck kiss before I head to San d'Oria?”

Gothic grins to himself, but the Mithra wasn't laughing. She quickly hits him over the head with the harp, causing Gothic to stumble and land face-first in the ground. She then starts kicking him in the side, viciously.

Sotaka: “Uhm... Please stop, I need him in one piece...”

After healing Gothic's wounds, and catching a ride back to San d'Oria, Sotaka runs for the Mog House of Port San d'Oria. Gothic chooses to wait outside, to keep an eye out for the guards.

Sotaka, inside of his mog house, walks over to the table. An old box sits on the top of it. He reaches inside of it, and grabs a dagger from within. On the side, the word “Kaizer” was engraved. The dagger had once belonged to Kaizer, but he had given it to Sotaka before his untimely demise.

Sotaka: “Master Kaizer, guide us to safety...”

Sotaka said quietly as he held the dagger. He puts it away in his item bag, being cautious of the name on it.

Walking back outside, Gothic had both of his daggers already drawn. Five San d'Orian knights stood in front of him. Gothic looks back to Sotaka.

Gothic: “It looks bad, Sota...”
Sotaka: “Damn it, you're telling me they already figured it out?”
Gothic: “Yea...”

Five more knights run in from the residential district. Sotaka and Gothic stand back to back, getting ready for a fight. Sotaka pulls out two swords, looking uneasily at the enemies that surrounded them.

The guards charge at the two, five for each of them. The main issue was, that this was a unit that was made to counter the strengths of their enemies.

Gothic splits into four, his shadows and his solid self. However, with five enemies, the three shadows were almost instantly taken out by three guards. The other two, charging directly at Gothic, raise their swords in preparation of an attack.

Gothic stealthily moves between the two of them, handling his dagger expertly as he lunged it into one of their backs. However, the other three charge at him as well, grabbing him from behind.

He attempts to break free of their grip, but they continue to pile up on top of him.

Sotaka wasn't nearly as successful. At first, he attempted to cast a second-tier Thunder spell, but one of the guards prepared a special shield to absorb magical attacks. This made his attacks completely useless, so he prepared to directly attack.

Just as Gothic had lost his shadows, Sotaka's were quickly taken out as well. However, when the guards charged at Sotaka, he made no effort to evade their attacks. Instead, he took them directly. At first, the cut looks as though it would slice Sotaka open, cut him to pieces, even. However, the shell around Sotaka shatters.

What's more, a trail of ice ran up from the shell and through the swords. It ran into the bodies of the knights, causing their muscles to freeze and become paralyzed. Sotaka grins as he moves in and strikes one of them down, but another comes up from behind. He grins as he brings the sword down. Sotaka figured there was nothing to fear, as the spikes would take care of him.

However, this was a special blade. It was made to nullify enhancements that the user had casted on themselves. Instead of the ice spikes and stoneskin taking effect, the blade cut straight into Sotaka's flesh, tearing the enhancement off. Another guard grabs Sotaka while the spells were down.

With Sotaka's small size, one guard was more than enough to hold him without his enhancements up.

The knights knock out Sotaka and Gothic, and take them to the dungeons of San d'Oria. The Bostaunieux Oubliette.

Sotaka and Gothic are chained up to a wall. They hadn't brought down any dungeon masters to torture them, but it would inevitably happen.

Sotaka had his eyes closed, still slightly unconscious from the attack. Gothic, on the other hand, furiously worked at the shackles that held his hands up. He was a thief, after all, and he wasn't about to sit around shackled to a wall.

Sotaka: “Gothic, any luck yet?”
Gothic: “Almost... there... Just give it time, would you?”
Sotaka: “we need to get out of here quickly...”
Gothic: “Shut up! This takes concentration!”

The pick nearly snaps, but Gothic expertly maneuvered it to prevent a snap.

The door to the dungeons opens. Halver walks down the stairs, and heads directly for Sotaka and Gothic's cell.

Halver: “Well, if it isn't Sir Gothic... and that brat Sotaka that tags along with him.”
Gothic: “Well, if it isn't Halver, the power mad freak of San d'Oria.”
Sotaka: “Gothic, best not to provoke the one who has you chained up...”

Halver grins to himself as he paces back and forth in front of the two.

Gothic: “So, what's the reason for the unpleasant visit? Or did they decide that your face was torture enough?
Halver: “Silence, you traitorous Dog!”
Sotaka: “Heheh...”
Halver: “So, the spy seems to find something funny in my words?”

Halver punches Sotaka in the face. Of course, without any method of defense, he just took it with a smile.

Sotaka: “Come on, I've seen Rarabs that hit harder than you.”
Gothic: “Nah, Sotaka, the Rarabs are too strong for this weak Elvaan... I'd compare him more to a ... Tunnel worm. Crawling under the ground and the like, fearful of anything that's better than him.”

Halver punches Gothic right in the stomache, but it seems to have virtually no effect on him. Gothic just laughs at Halver. Halver, on the other hand, was slowly getting more and more angry at the two.

Sotaka: “So, Halver, what do you intend to do with us?”
Gothic: “Eh, yea, it is surprising they would send someone so weak down here...”
Halver: “We have a ... special treatment, for hero's such as you two...”

Halver said. He holds up his right hand, and begins to chant a spell.

Sotaka: “What the...?”
Gothic: “Oh crap...”

Gothic begins to work even faster on the chains that bound him to the wall. He didn't like the fact that Halver was casting a spell.

Sotaka: “Gothic... That spell.. it's not in any of my spellbooks... not even the Black Mage's set...”
Gothic: “I know, I have to get this lock open...!”

Halver held up his hand. He thrusts it straight at Sotaka, which manages to actually dive directly into him. He pulls out his hand, holding a small orb.

Sotaka falls almost unconscious again. Halver holds up the orb, and then slams it into the floor.

The very ground below him begins to glow. Ancient symbols similar to those of the avatar summoning surrounded the place his hand made contact with the floor. As he slowly raises his hand, a small taru materializes.

Sotaka: “What is that?”
Halver: “This? This is you.”

Halver motioned to it. Of course, it was Sotaka to an extent, but it was different than he was currently dressed.

Halver: “It's what you used to be. The things you learned on bard, the strength your bard used to have... Everything that embodied you as that job.”
Sotaka: “Everything...”

Sotaka felt oddly empty without that piece of him. Even his words had lost that intellectual sound that he once had.

Halver: “And now, it's Gothic's turn...”

Gothic was still furiously working the lock, trying to break it free with Halver seeing his work.

Gothic breaks the bonds on his hands, and falls to the floor. He attempts to stand up and move away, but Halver thrusts his hand right into Gothic, just as he had done to Sotaka. He pulls out an orb, which faintly glowed red.

He slams it into the floor, another set of symols grow out from underneathe him. He pulls his hand back as a second Gothic materializes. This one was dressed in the looks of a Warrior, with two axes hanging down his sides.

<_< For now, that's all I can really do. So.. uh... yea... TO BE CONTINUEd... /ominous. >_>

Get it right, it was "M'lord Gothic.", not "Master Gothic"

Though they have pretty much the same meaning, M'lord sounds better. >_>

Sotaka
08-03-2006, 11:06 PM
Gothic weakly stands up, throwing a knife over at the bonds on Sotaka's hands. The shackles break into pieces as the knife cuts through them, and sotaka falls to the ground, landing on his feet.

Halver grinned while looking at the two defeated hero's. Gothic rises up to his feet, pulling out both of his daggers. However, the Warrior Gothic steps forward to meet his challenge.

Sotaka, on the other hand, sits on the floor staring at the fight. He didn't motion to grab his weapons, or even fight for that matter. He just continues to stare off almost completely lifeless.

Gothic charges at the gothic imposter. He splits into four images as he charges, attempting to blitz his double.

All four commence an attack, but the double parries their attacks with the armor on his hands. He grabs the first shadow gothic, and slams it head-first into a second one. The other two attempt to take advantage of the situation, but the gothic imposter grabs the last shadow's attack and punches it's face in.

The real gothic takes this chance to get behind the imposter gothic. He skillfully flips his blades and attempts to stab it into his imposters back. It would have been a good blow, too, had it not been for the armor that the imposter was wearing. Gothic's dagger cracks and snaps into two pieces.

Gothic: "I.... Can't even hurt him!?"
Imposter Gothic: "I'm not done with you yet."

The imposter gothic turns around. Gothic quickly swings his blade, but each hot is blocked off by one of the imposter's arms.

The imposter gothic grabs the real gothic's arm, and quickly swings him face-first into a wall. Gothic's face slams hard against it, but surprisingly enough didn't recieve a fatal blow. He walks over, and starts kicking gothic in the side. Gothic coughs up some blood, and roles over, still partially-concious.

Sotaka still sits there, while the imposter sotaka stands in front of him, laughing.

Imposter Sotaka: "Oh, this is rich."
Sotaka: "..."
Imposter Sotaka: "He lost his free will from this, didn't he? Not to mention his own inherint intellect."
Sotaka: "..."
Imposter Sotaka: "Halver, there's no point in fighting this one; we should toss him in the dungoung and let him rot in his own silence with gothic."

Halver laughs, and nods to the imposter sotaka. The imposter then leads sotaka over to a hatch, while the imposter gothic picks up the real gothic with one arm and drags him over to the same hatch.

Halver: "Well, you two, have fun rotting in the sewers. This is what you get when you betray San d'Oria."

Halver continues to laugh, and the lid pops open. The imposter sotaka pushes sotaka in, and sotaka offers no resistance to the push. The imposter gothic throws gothic in, making sure to have gothic his his head on the side as he falls into the hole.

================================================== ======

After a few hours, gothic finnaly manages to wake up from his unconcious state. Beside him is a large fire, which looked like it was made from bones and flesh rather than real wood.

He looks around, lifting himself to his feet. There was two dead slimes on the ground nearby him, and the area itself seemed to have been cleared out. Sotaka sits in the other corner, staring at the fire as gothic stands up.

Gothic: "You..."
Sotaka: "..."
Gothic: "What the heck were you doing back there?! you didn't think to help fight?!"
Sotaka: "..."
Gothic: "And what the heck is wrong with you? Why aren't you talking? Just that eerie silence..."
Sotaka: "I recieved no orders, and current lack a master."
Gothic: "...Woah, what the hell? I havn't heard you talk like that since before you were a bard...."
Sotaka: "..."

Gothic sighs, looking at the fire.

Gothic: "So, if you didn't do anything up there, why'd you do all this down here?"
Sotaka: "Necessity to survival."
Gothic: "Is that so?"
Sotaka: "Yes."
Gothic takes a moment to look around the area. The walls seemed to be rotted and decayed from time, but the overall structure remained strong.

Gothic "We were sent down here on a mission before, weren't we?'
Sotaka: "I think so..."
Gothic: "So, that means, in order to get out, we just follow the right wall..."

Gothic looks down the passageways. There was no sign of light as far as he could see, and he knew that this kind of visibility would be dificult to fight in. The best one could do is see the enemy and attack the enemy.

Gothic: "So, let's get going."
Sotaka: "..."
Gothic: "Sota?"
Sotaka: "No need, go on ahead."
gothic: "Not going to happen, I need you to come along."
Sotaka: "No point, go ahead."
Gothic: "... Look, I don't care if I have to beat the sense into you, or drag you out by your feet, you're coming with me."
Sotaka: "fine..."

Sotaka said, somewhat depressed as he stood up.

Gothic immidiately takes the lead, walking down the passage. The area in front of them is very empty as they begin walking along. The lack of enemies slightly disturbs gothic, so he grabs both of his daggers, including his shattered one.

Sotaka: "What good is the second one?"
Gothic: "Even when it's shattered like this... I can still make use of it!"

They continue deeper into the labrynth, the souls of those who had died in this place began to moan loudly. Spirits slowly crawled up from below the ground.

Gothic: "What is that?!"

Gothic quickly readies his blades, staring at the spirit climbing up. Three of it's friends climbed up from behind as well.

Spirit: "How easily the elvaan forgets...!"
Gothic: "Forgets? Forgets what...?"
Spirit: "Ten years ago."
Gothic: "Ten years ago? That's when we came down here on that mission..."
Spirit: "... and?"
Gothic: "I only remember the mission!"
Sotaka: "We killed them."
Spirit: "Oh? it's the taru..."
Sotaka: "Yes."
Spirit: "... heheh... must be our lucky day... We get to kill you both for the way you slaughtered us!"
Gothic: "Slaughtered?"

The spirits started to glow dark black, and quickly inhabited the body of a doll. The doll rises to it's feet, lifting both arms to attack Gothic and Sotaka.

Gothic immidiately sprints at the newely formed doll. He pulls out both his blades. Gothic instinctively attempts to strike directly, but the attack doesn't phase the doll. Rather, it just made the spirits which now possessed it laugh at gothic's feeble attempts.

Sotaka remains sitting back, staring at the fight. he looks at the swords hanging off of his sides.

Sotaka: "M'lord gothic... was the title..."

He mumbled, standing up and holding both his swords up. He holds a bloody rapier in one, and an Analace given to him by Windurst a long time ago. This was the first time he had ever used it, so the blade itself was amazingly sharp.

Gothic, realising that direct attacks wouldn't work, quickly jumps back and melds into the shadows. The doll attempts to find him, but gothic's existance seemed to have been completely erased. So, instead, it turned it's attention to Sotaka.

Sotaka took the attacks straight in. Unlike gothic, he didn't attempt to dodge. He took direct hit after hit straight to his face- never flinching. Then, finnaly, pieces of sand begin to shed from his skin where he had been hit..

Gothic finnaly came back out from the shadows behind the monster. he held both of his blades ready, and then signals to sotaka.

Using his good blade, he begins charging, cutting through the monster and quickly turning and cutting again. He does this five times in a rapid succession, each hit getting stronger than the last. Sotaka holds his blade up until the air, enchanting it with fire, and then as gothic's last hit was going through, sotaka charged in the same fashion, but put all his force into one hit instead of building up.

The cuts that gothic had made was bad, the sneack attack had caught the doll off-guard, and the wound had gone to the sofest spot on the doll's armor. Then, Sotaka's attack following not only cut deeper into it, but also ignited it's insides.

Gothic: "Uhh.. Sota... Bad idea."
Sotaka: "..."
Gothic: "Shi---"

The doll immidiately hits gothic, sending him flipping through the air. Gothic lands face-first into the floor, but quickly pushes up and flips back over again.

The doll quickly turns to Sotakac, the fire inside it from the blade was now engulfing the skull of the doll. It quickly thrusts both arms forward. Sotaka stood ready to take the attack directly, but what he didn't expect was for the strike to blow his stoneskin straight off. Sotaka goes flying back along with the shattered pieces of stone from his skin.

Gothic slowly rises back to his feet, bleeding from the side of his face. His breathing was deep now, as he pulled his dagger close and charged at the doll again. He jumps into the air, landing on the doll's back. Holding on tightly to it, he begins stabbing his dagger down into the flaming skull, the fires burning his hand.

Gothic pulls the blade back out. He takes the shattered one, and thrusts it into the hole he had made with his other dagger. The fire's engulf his arm as he reaches deeper through the skull, and the monster begins swinging in pain.

Gothic jumps off the monster, landing on his feet, and then jumps even further back.

Gothic: "Now!"
Sotaka: "Right."

All of a sudden, thunder began converging all around the doll. However, with the blade that gothic had left in the skull, it was all immidiately attracted straight into the head of the monster. The electricity began to overload it, and then finnaly, the head exploded.

The spirits go flying out of the skull, screaming as they are sent scattering from where they were. The rest of the doll, now uninhabited, falls apart.

Gothic: "It's... over..."
Sotaka: "Yes..."

Sotaka had managed to take less damage than gothic did on the outwards appearance, but the fact was that he was mentally exhaused and a bit physically bruised. Gothic stands up again, and holds his arm as he begins to continue walking along the path.

The burns looked vicous. Blood was all over gothic's arm.

Sotaka: "Sit."
Gothic: "eh? Why?"
Sotaka: "Arm."
Gothic: "Sotaka? don't."
Sotaka: "Arm. Now."

Sotaka grabs gothic's injured arm. He begins chanting a restorative spell. However, with the level of mental exhaustion he had reached, the spell itself would take a toll on his mind. Sotaka finishes the spell, but falls straight to his knee's, grabbing his head and yelling out in pain. Sotaka twists on the floor, holding his head with both arms like a child would when they have a headache.

Most of gothic's wounds had healed, but the pain he had felt was still there. All gothic could do was watch at this point and hope his comrade would heal fast.

However, this was required. If the wound went untreated, gothic would suffer more long-term consequences that the short-term pain that sotaka would have to endure from exhausting his mind.

Sotaka raises back to his feet slowly. He pulls out a small vile. He quickly takes it, and a bit of his mental stability is restored. However, sotaka was still disy from the pain.

They begin to walk for the exit, seriously injured, and hoping to get a way out.

================================================== ======

Once they exit the sewer, two Chocobo's are sitting, waiting for them below the ledge. They both jump down, landing on the chocobo's. Gothic takes the rope off the side of the chocobo and throws it around sotaka's, who had fallen unconcious from the mental pain.
