Aye. So I'm a little late starting out, but I'd decided to wait until the game was available via XBox 360 before getting it, as I couldn't at the time afford to upgrade the computer enough to handle it, and finding the PS2 Version with the HDD was all but impossible.

In any case, I own the game at last, and have created my characters - Laeredis, a male Elvaan Warrior, and September, a male Tarutaru Black Mage.

I started on Lakshmi or whatever, but got a world pass to play on Asura, as a friend of mine (who actually is behind me getting the game at all) plays there.

I've barely played any, as I'm still extremely new to the concept of the game, and have yet to familiarize myself with the controls. After spending a bit too much money on the XBox 360, FFXI, XBox Live Gold, USB Keyboard, etc.. it's almost too ironic how little I've played.

In fact, I've not even left Windurst. At least, not by far. My characters are all but weak, but that aside, I've not exactly been in the mood to play solitarily.

At least not right now. I'd like to level up some via party, if at all possible. Furthermore, I wouldn't mind at all finding a few friends to talk to about the game, especially if I can manage to add them to the XBox Live friends list. I go out and spend way over my limit for the thing, and haven't a soul to play with on it. http://ffxi.ogaming.com/forum/html/emoticons/sad.gif

So to keep this short, I'm new to the game, new to the forum. Any help, ideas, suggestions, etc, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Let me be the first to welcome you to FFXI if this is the first post. I'm Vair, nice to meet ya.

Let me give you the run down. Xbox 360 players really haven't proven themseleves to be the most intellegent group of players yet. So I'm very glad you came here for advice. Here are some basic things you need to know:

1.) Don't be a jerk, it's that simple.
2.) Have a subjob at level 18.
3.) The appropriate time to start partying is level 10.
4.) The place to get your real first party would be at Valkurm Dunes. Go to the Canyon, then to the pennensula, then find "Port Mhuara" Ride the boat to Valkurm.
5.) Try not to fall too far behind on spells if you're a mage and armor and weapons if you're a DD (Damage Dealer)
6.)Places to EXP by level:
a.) 10~20 Valkurm Dunes
b.) 20~25 Qufim Island
c.) 25~30 Khazam
7.) And this is really important. DO NOT BEG FOR GIL.

Got any more questions? Get ahold of me, I'll be glad to help you. (I'll be on tomorrow at 4:00 P.M Central)

Hey, thanks.

I certainly don't want to fall into the unintelligent 360 player category. I simply chose the best route for me. :p

At the time, I'm mostly just dawdling around in Windurst while I wait for my friend to come online. She's offered to help me level up some so I won't find myself completely disadvantaged, which is what I was meaning when I said I'd wanted to gain some EXP via Partying. Not necessarily a long term party, moreso of a help-me-out type thing. At least until I get used to the controls and get my feet in the water..or land.. or whatever.

In any case, thanks for the help. It's greatly appreciated. :)

Since you're here, it should also be mentioned that there is a wealth of information contained in the various forums on this site. Don't be afraid to ask questions - we were all newbies at some point, and there's a lot to learn about FFXI even if you've played other massively multiplayer games before.

Have fun and good luck!
