View Full Version : I can't be the only one with bad parties, can I?

Reasons why I hate the The Dunes:

When you’re a paladin, don’t get into a party with a ninja, no matter how desperate you are to get some experience points. It's just retarded.

People will actually use warrior as a subjob for their white mage, explaining “dude, look at my sweet hp bonus from my subjob!”
“I don’t see why I should pay all that gil to upgrade all my armor every 3 levels” is considered a reasonable excuse to be a level 12 monk wearing level 7 pants and your starting gear.
A level 20 white mage is not a power level.

As you can tell, I didn’t have a great day in the dunes today. Our group banded together under the trees, and proceeded to unleash a flurry of damage on the local wildlife until the sands were red with lizard blood. The experience sucked so badly that I’m fairly certain there was a draft. Sure, I could go with my regular motto of “any experience points are good”, but when I could gained what I needed to level in 10 minutes, and it takes 1 hour and me dying, then I think it’s fair to say that it sucked.

So, anyone else care to share a tale about their worst/funniest/most mind-numbingly bad dunes party so I don't feel like that little green "seek party" flag is simply a magnet for attracting oxygen thieves? :vent:

^^; I tried to avoid having both pld and nin but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and go with whatever job available for you. Both PLD and NIN can gear up to be DD, it's not ideal but not that bad either.

i haven't worked up to the dunes, and i've already had some party problems. the two i've been in today, i've spent the time and energy to gear up to my best for this party i've just been invited to, and once i've already spent fifteen minutes to get out to the party, everybody in it are barely even half my level. the party was formed not for any specific purpose, but to just for the hell of forming a party. i really need to get into the habit to ask what level they are before i bother. b.b

I went through the dunes a few times before I realize that soloing was actually better xp... for some jobs...

Maze and tunnel for worms is much better than the almighty dunes...

I was pld backup for nin my last level in Valkurm, thankfully it was a decent PT. I kind of felt like a newbie sword war, except I did pretty good damage with attack setup. I soloed most of exp before that, Valkurm is a truly horrifying experience with the average PT.

I've had really great teams and gained a level every time partying, but they're all jackasses >.< "Go pull that monster!" "HURRY!". Grr, if I see a Goblin Butcher coming towards me should I a) Continue throwing a pebble at the Hill Lizard or b) Avoid Goblin and then throw pebble?

Even at level 50, I always do a /sea all Name (of person who /tell'ed me) to see what level he/she is. I also always have to ask - because the party leaders rarely tell me - if there is a white mage in the party or if I am going to have to pink mage. And just a hint for you melee party leaders: Yes, it matters. It matters a lot. Knowing that I'm going to be the main healer means I can take the time to change my subjob. Nothing I hate more than getting teleported to Eastern Altepa Desert, running to Quicksand Caves, getting my invite once there, and finding that there's no WHM in the party and that I've still /blm. >.<

Yeah, that just happened a few days ago. The party sucked, and not just because I was main healer. (Although any party that can't be bothered to tell me before I run out there deserves a /slap.)

Duh. You throw the pebble at the lizard and agro the goblin on the way back to camp. :P

Bonus points if you can get an extra lizard to link up somewhere along the way.

Unfortunately its a fact of life, everyone who will play FFXI will soemtime have many bad experiences in parties, its somethign we have to put up with to get that exp we need. My drk is ehading to the dunes soon lvl 10 with all scale gear and legionaires scythe and sushi to up my acc when I DD. Parties tend to use drks as a last resort and I have already been asked to tank, i politely refused the party drk = not a tank, especially when they had a war in the party!! WTF? (apprently like o mentioned some people thinkt hat keeping armour and weapons upgraded is "not worth the extra money", I don't think they get the game!)

I've been in some great parties where it worked well when i was war skillchaining with the sam in Yutunga tach-etch (or however you spell it) + fastblade = distortion, worked everytime, we kep each other informed of tp by macros and worked as a team, evn the mages were able to magicburst. Then in teh dunes I fight this aprty, where the wars useless (couldn't even use provoke, yes I have mentione dit in another thread) where I ended up tankign as a theif, naturally we did die and the war left in disgust blaming everyone sying we were all noobs. hmmmmm look in a mirror matey!!!!

So yeah, my fuming aside, just enjoy the good parties when you get them and make sure you do your job well so you get a good reputation.

Yeah, I know that everyone gets bad parites, but lately it just seems that the bad ones are all I get. Of course I've just spent the last few weeks in the Dunes, which explains why almost all of the parties have sucked.

Thankfully today I managed to get into a good one that lasted the hour or so before I had to work, and the only complete idiot of the day was me, who sat around for 20 minutes with her seek flag up wondering why no one wanted a pld, before realizing I was /anon.:o

sat around for 20 minutes with her seek flag up wondering why no one wanted a pld, before realizing I was /anon.:olol. I did that before! Except, I did it for about an hour. Not that it made difference; I was on THF, so no invites after /anon off anyway...

Regarding NIN and PLD should never party together... I'm not sure if that's true. Before Lv.37, NIN only has Utsusemi: Ichi, so can use another tank in party--and a PLD/WAR co-tank can take care of itself pretty well.

After Lv.37, PLD has Flash to help out with Utsusemi recast and Cover for big MB's that don't kill the mob, and can possibly handle main healing for NIN tank party with /WHM sub, auto-refresh, and passible enhancing and healing magic skills. Certainly, PLD will be able to gear for attack/damage if the NIN is tanking.

Not that I would ever try it, but it seems theorectically possible for PLD's and NIN's to work well together. >_>; The PLD's shield and parrying skills would be gimped as heck after a few level of this, however.

In any case, two good players on NIN and PLD with flexible gear/food options is better than bad NIN + uber DD (or bad PLD + uber DD).

Oh yeah, I fully expect to tank on DRK when I get around to take that to Dunes levels... I already have the defense gears from leveling PLD anyway... Might as well just pick up a stack of boiled crab before I head out, too.
