Halvung Gate Key

Three questions:

1. How do you get it?
2. Does it break when you use it?
3. Can the gate be picked with THF tools?

1.) There are several ??? throughout Mount Z. You must first examine one of the Halvung Gates for a message about "something needed to open the gate". THen you find one of the ??? and examine it for the Key Item. (Check FFXI-Atlas, they have several ??? points shown).
2.) No
3.) Not to my knowledge, THFs?

I'm sorry, I'm having some trouble with this.

When I touch the door I get this exact message . .

"There is a large keyhole here
It seems to be a very simple mechanism"

and then when I touch the ??? I get this message . . .

"There is a detached part here . . . "

So why can't i get the key?

And I'm pretty sure THFs can't pick it.

I encountered this too.... It's quite frustrating since I have to run around a lot going back and forth.....

I encountered this too.... It's quite frustrating since I have to run around a lot going back and forth.....

So I went back and went for the ???s again after I checked the Gates of Halvung.

This time I went there and got the map from the "Rock Bottom" quest. Then I went around to look for the ???.

This time it worked. I'm not sure if it is because finally I got the right ??? or maybe having the map quest done is prereq.
