View Full Version : good profit
just letting you guys know, that if you get about, four stacks of sickles, go to giddeus and look exclusively to find red moko grass (which you get quite often) you can make great profit. You also don't even need the HELM gear.
red moko grass = 70k per stack.
but.... if you have a high level cloth friend, or you do cloth yourself, you can use a lighting crystal on one and get red thread and a stack of those goes for 200k. =D
AND... three red threads = one red cloth, but I havent' checked how much a stack of those go for... I'll update later.
so 12red moko grass =70k
1 red moko grass + lightning crystal = red thread
12 red thread = 200k.
very profitable for lower levels.
~just watch for aggro in giddeus~

Red Moko has been the mainstay of my income for a while now. At 52cloth, I harvest all my raw materials in giddius. I don't use much red moko, so that gets turned into an assortment of threads and cloths. Threads on my server range anywhere from 3k to 20k for a single depending on demand that month.
don't know abour your server, but ours, those baron's pigaches, they go for 500-600k.
which is pretty nice, if you have a high level friend who mains in leather, and has high cloth.

Also, the mugwort you harvest use to be worth alot (50k each till people started to flood the market and undercut) which was a nice bonus to the red moko grass, also i use the cotton to make shinobi tabi which can sell from 30-40k in jeuno. I just invested in field gear so if theres any noticible differance in my next harvesting trip i will post it ^^.

I'm pretty interested in this.
I've been farming Buburimu, over and over again, since level 40. I need a change of scenery.
What level cloth is Red Thread?
Thread is 15 and cloth is 16.
Windy is usually my favorite place to level lower jobs because of the harvesting and farming possibilities.
The last time I used this method, the cloth was not as profitable as selling the thread when you figured up how much thread it took to make a stack of cloth.

It caps at 15? Thats awesome. I can crank out my clothcraft to 10 in no time flat. It may cost me so I'll probably do some harvesting first, to see if the gains are worth the returns. I'll have to research harvesting patches too.
Maybe I can pop in on ol Hoo Mjuu while I'm there.
I got cloth to 10 pretty fast just by desynthing yag necklaces and turning that thread into cloth and capes and such when I was starting out. Can always store the grass until your level is high enough to do the red grass thread.

Tif, thats a freaking awesome idea.
Someone else, rate him up... I'm out of rep for the day.
(blew my wad way too early)
Hey, whats the rate on harvesting these things? I mean, like I said, I'm the suck at farming...
Look at me, level 58, and I'll try almost anything so I can stop farming Silk in bubu. Thats all I did from 40-57 for farming. Now I can farm Silk AND Dhalmel Hide to make Dhalmel leather.
So even if this is "for lower levels" I'd try it to see if it does me better. The mugwort is also, or was also, in pretty high demand.
Last time I went harvesting for the red grass, I seemed to get mainly that. A few crawler cacoons tossed in and some other odds and ends, but I recall it being about 70% of my take for that session. I don't do it on a regular enough basis to know if that's average, high or low though, especially since I put my other crafts on hold to finish up cooking I just don't do much harvesting, mining etc. But the other odds and ends weren't a bad take either. I got a lot of cotton which is hard to come by on my server for a reasonable price.
edit..
I guess I should mention when I do the harvesting thing, I do both zones, I don't just stick to giddeus. If you go up on the ledge (the enterance to it is near the outpost), there are a few harvesting points up there.

They aren't being shown on the map (http://www.ffxi-atlas.com/nav/?act=show&id=sarutabaruta-west) like they are in Giddeus (http://www.ffxi-atlas.com/nav/?act=show&id=giddeus) (hit the show link for harvesting). I know that the map can't/won't be 100% accurate but I rarely see harvesting points anyway. I think I've seen a grand total of 1. Of course I'm never looking for them either.
Ah, I guess I'll post where I tend to find them.
Along the ridge around g-7. Follow this all the way down to the monument, as the points can and do all the way down.
I also tend to find one or two around the g-6/f-6/e-6 squares when running to giddeus.
I'll occassionaly find some around the edge of the map around h-5/h-6 area as well and sometimes I've seen them on the hill. I haven't found a whole lot of them on that map, though they all tend to be in the northern part and on the ridge. The ridge and scanning when you run to giddeus tends to have the best results for having them grouped together and is a good way to get warmed up. I'll alternate them in if there are a lot of people harvesting. Maybe if I get some free time this weekend, I'll do a round out there and mark off with map markers the points I found and post it.

yes, the +harvesting gear is worth it. Yes, that was an abnormally high take of red moko. I would like to point out that while it is an awesome way to make money, it does take a significant investment of time. To top it off, there are /always/ people out harvesting. I have never been to Gideus and not seen at least four or five other people harvesting with me. It gets really, really, competative. On a bad day, your take home is about 10k/hr.
Don't forget if you really want to make the best profit, you also have to compete for lightining clusters (currently the highest priced crystal on my server) to make the threads. I also suggest getting the Key Item that allows you to synth three threads at a time. It save significantly on crystal cost.

I think I'll still go out there and try it, as I have no better ideas at what to farm at this level. I'm suposed to get some LS help, and one of my best buddies (RL & Game) said he'd let me keep his share... but I feel bad doing that.
I'm always the poor guy :P
You don't need to go through the trouble of mapping out the points though, I think I can find them from that description.
Thanks for pointing out that was a abnormally high intake, because like I said, I was totally unsure.
As far as lightning crystals, I found a great place to go after them is in the middle zone of Carpenter's Landing if you have a job that is high enough to kill them there. Lightning is not uncommon there and that mid zone has a few elemental spawn spots. Once you learn them you can pretty much run the cycle on them until you fill up your inventory if nobody else is in the zone. I found most people on my server tend to go in the higher area of Carpenter's Landing so they can camp the nm as well, and the mid area gets left alone. If you camp the clusters there, take a few hatchets along as you are going to find some logging points.

Running up and down the path in Jugner Forest produces similar results. There seems to always be a Lit Ele on the path, or near it, at some point.
Used to also be profitable to pick up mistletoe. It isn't anymore.
Carpenter's Landing shares a weather pattern with Jugner if I'm not mistaken. I just found it was nice because it was usually quiet and it was a smaller area to circle. Also, I'd cast a few lines while waiting for the appropriate weather.
Don't forget there is good farming in CL as well. Beetle jaws, tiger fangs, the mushrooms and the flytrap leaves (I usually npc those) all bring in a nice profit while waiting for those elementals.

Um.... there's 1 major hole in your little plan dude.
Red Grass is 1 Lighting + 2 red moko grass
Idk about other servers, but on seraph it's currently best to just sell the grass.
