Hmm, I wanted to make a set of mithril armor without the shoulderpads. I used a simple alpha map but it didn't come out as I'd hoped. Any ideas?

They have 'shiny' material attatched to them. Wouldn't take more than 5 seconds to strip out completely in VRS.

What you were really asking (fixable in Meta?) isn't exactly possible, although I suppose you could shrink them down to next to nothing and then set it 50 feet in the air or something equally silly.

or shrink them down and move them inside the shoulder....

Due to the binding of shoulderpads, they fly up during certain animations, thus making it somewhat tricky to hide them.

Its best just to create a new un-reflective material in VRS and delete the old one. Too easy...

Yes, but if the goal is to removed them, why not just delete the entire group?

The shoulder pads themselves won't show up in a Single group. The Texture and Material will be bound to the main armors Model, so there should be only 1 Material Object to delete and replace, which will take away the reflective property completely. Then the Alpha maps will work correctly.

But, you could just load it into VRS and delete the shoulder pads by selecting Multiple Select>Vertex and then hitting your Delete Button. Since that's prolly what Strom was talkin' about now that I actually typed it out...
