View Full Version : Strange Stuff In Vana'diel

I have noticed some strang sites around the world in Vana'diel and was wondering if anyone else seen some of these and if they knew what the are all about.
#1 Gusgen Mines lowest level section G7 ghost of a kid running around.
#2 Konschtat Highlands section D7 cave leeding to nowhere.
#3 South Gustaberg section I7 strang carving in side of mountain.
I just noticed that all of these things are in an area ending with a 7 wonder if that means anything. I have screen shots if anybody wants to see them.
actually the #2 cave is used for Samurai quest ^^

Gusgen mines has quite a few ghosts in it... It's rather creepy. Also, if you go to the many little ponds within Gusgen (where the NM ghosts spawn), you can often hear strange noises such as laughter and clangs and such. I kinda like it, it adds to the feel of the place.
The cave that leads to nowhere has a "???" at the end - it's for spawning an NM for the Samurai flag quest.
As for the carving... I don't recall ever seeing that. I just arrived in Bastok so I'm gonna go check it out right now.

Hmm... I think it's just the Bastok flag emblem? Makes sense, they're miners and stoneworkers, their city is built out of rock and stone... I'd be surprised if they didn't have something carved on there ^^
I'd never noticed it before though. Interesting :3 thanks for pointing it out ^^
There're lots of strange sights around Vana'diel, most do have a use or explanation, often involved in some mission or another. It's fun progressing and learning more about it all :)

I'll have to check out that stone carving. I don't generally look around Bastok too much (sorry Bastokans!) but I love seeing little things like that that the game designers sprinkled throughout the world.

Ok I've gote a new one just found this one when I was trying to target a mob.
Buburimu Peninsula I9 Hieroglyphics by the gate to Mhaura.
Anyone know what these are all about?:huh:

As for the ghosts in Gusgen, I like 'em. Makes it seem kinda creepy. I think they are there because lots of people were killed in the mines in an accident. Maybe it was on purpose, I forget.

I-6/I-7 in La Theine has an odd cave with nothing in it, no ???, or anything. Not even an NM. North side of the hills.
Also, around G6/7 in highlands, if you are positioned properly, it looks like a man is holding up a large ball or something on the rockface. Reminds me of the Greecian story of Titan, not the ingame one.
edit: Heiroglyphs=dynamis for that region. Dynamis-Valkurm, Dynamis-Qufim, etc.
Now I'm very curious, what's the Greecian story of Titan??

If you look deeper you'll find lots of unused caves, tunnels, and places that lead to nowhere around the world. I believe the developers were asked about this once and they said they put them in there just in case they ever want to add new zones, quests, etc in those areas.
I have to go check out that carving though... I never knew it was there. There is suppose to be SE's logo on the side of the airships that you can see when it's taking off, but I've never seen it. So blind to these things...
What I want to know... where does that gate outside Kazham lead to. You know, the one behind the wall and flag. I bet that's where the mithra keep their males. Come on, mithra, can't we even get a peek? :cool:

I killed them all... wait, no-my entire party killed a group of people in Gusgen Mines, and so-that's how they got to be there. :D

The hieroglyphics in Qufim are for entering Dynamis-Qufim.
Hieroglyphics in Buburimu are for Dynamis-Buburimu.

In West Altepa, there are four pillars that all have different colors. I tried to see what they are. Oh, and in East Altepa on a Sandstorm (2x Earth) you can see a tornado. I walked into it and nothing happened.

in Bastok if you go out where the chocobo trainer is i think Bastok Mines and you go up past the first few newbie area's I noticed a Tower with no mobs in it. and a elevator lift that's half way.. You can see a lever there.. I tried to activate it but nothing.. Just scenory or something for a quest?
The 2 painting that are missing from Temple of Uggly, they are somewhere else in the game. But if I said where, well that would just ruin the surprise now wouldn't it. Also on those paintings (the ones still in the temple) you see plans for Tu'lia and Al'Taieu.
That tower was probably originally intended for a quest, but it has since been converted to a wedding place.
The tornado is just scenery.

Correct.
The missing paintings can be found in a hidden room in Phomiuna Aqueducts, which you visit as part of Chains of Promathia Chapter 2 missions.

There is something quite funny in Norg, anyone that's interested, go into the first little room where some Sailor's stay and look around, see if you can find what I'm talking about :3 And! Anyone that does know, don't mention it, cause so few people have ever seen it when I've showed it to them in game, so it's kind of like a little suprise for anyone that I end up going down there with :D

Icemage just got the wrong area name, they're in the Sacrarium, not the aquaducts.
You still find out during CoP missions though.

BTW founded out the Lightout is still a Quest it's to spawn a NM. Some Crab. i think to get an AF.. Not sure tho.

Not sure tho.Actually, that just spawns Bubby Bernie, which is a lower level NM that you can get to spawn by trading a Quus (fish) to the ??? at the base of the lighthouse. He's about level 10 or so. When you kill him you get a Steam Clock, and then you can trade that back to it's owner who lives in Bastok Markets for 500gil and some fame.^^
AF quest NMs are (usually) considerably more difficult.

I think it has something to do with the giant gate on the lower levels. Every once in a while two gates will raise and two gates will close.

The gates are player-controlled. They don't shift on their own (I tested and proved this when CoP was first released because literally no one knew how to activate the gates for the first couple of days).
The alarms are not linked to anything in Movalpolos - rather, they are the same siren that sounds within Gusgen Mines that spawns the various Ghost-type NMs like Smothered Schmidt who drop the mostly useless Malflood/Malflame/etc rings.

They are +10 to a specific element. I used them in a test with Barrage before trying to max out it's damage consistantly. I had done so far about 300 shots (Used decently strong demons, usually can take most of the Barrage attack), with about 130 to the Thunder Element my Barrages have hit Demons for nearly 2k damage. Probably be a lot more if their defense was lowered.
Don't know so far with trying that it seems to me that the element rings are decently useful. Aside from having 120-145 thunder element (Which is very funny to watch a thunder elemental try and hurt you) it seems almost that the elements do more then just defensive against spell attacks.

While in the 1st jungle in the little narrow passage, I looked behind me and there was a gob in gear similar to ambusher, etc. He was jumping up and down for a couple of moments (like in a hissy fit) but then seemed to have moved off or disappeared.
I thought I was going crazy but some other pt members saw this too. o.O

Yup, they stop from time to time to bury items. Some people say you can get better chocobo digging results if you dig where goblins bury things but I think its just speculation at the moment, I haven't seen any proof of it.

Yes, it's absolutely hilarious. I thought some of your signatures were silly, but the stuff in this room takes the cake.
As for the gobbie digger Kafeen posted about, you can dig up items behind him, but you're limited to the sort of things that you'd turn in for the Orlando's Antiques quest in Mhaura. The game is also extremely picky about making sure you dig *IN THE EXACT FRICKIN' SPOT" he burried whatever it was, and having that buried seems to make it near impossible to dig up anything else around that spot. If SE ever wanted to screw with digbots someday, all they'd have to do is despawn everything in the Altepa zones and respawn about 40 gobbie diggers.
There are a number of caves that go to nowhere in game right now. Used to be more, but a lot of them got used up when CoP went live. For instance, the Attowah Chasm zone in Maze of Shakrami used to be a dead-end. Before CoP went live, the zoneline was in game but not linked, so I could run into it repeatedly and bounce back into the maze. Was kind of fun. Also the Easternmost Entrance to Carpenter's Landing in Jugner used to be the best possible tiger campsite in that zone. You could pull one of the two out front into the cave there, kill, and then rest up for the 2nd one. Now you have to worry about accidentally zoning in if you run back too far on the pull.
There's another good cave leading to nowhere in Battalia Downs in the mountain just N or the Jeuno zone, you'll pass it as you run towards the sea there to fish. If the promised Northlands expansion ever goes in, (that one the Tribune articles mentioned with their references to the Orcish Empire and Gigas Homeland to the North), I suspect you'll see this tunnel actually linked to something. Probably a dungeon area you have to pass through to reach these areas.

Carpentar's Landing where the nm orctrap spawns. Just as you exit the cave look to the right and see the owl on the rock. Its head follows you as you walk around it.

If it is anything like the one in la thiene plateau it will call an NM if something is traded to it, or it could just be the cut-scene goblin who will show you cut-scenes from old missions / quests

Yes, for the ??? near the entrace to I think they are called Leviathan Gates (Entry from East Sarutabaruta into Windurst Woods) is for cutscenes. You can trade it anything because he isn't going to keep it anyway, just have to trade to get it to react. I usually just trade 1 gil to it.

Maybe it'll play some part in the upcoming expansion. There are similar caves in other parts of the world as well (LaTheine has one near the Ephemere, for instance).

It's just an anchor point where they can elect to add new content. I bet if they were ever to add in the gigas homeland that people sometimes ask to see, the route to it would be an undersea tunnel starting at that cave. The Jugner entrances to Carpenter's Landing were appendix-like caves also until the release of CoP.

Hmmm Well at least I'm not missing anything. It'll be interesting to see what if anything they do with it. I don't remember it being there before but maybe it was and I just never noticed it.
