So, Today will probably be the first day where Blue Mages start showing up in Valkurm at full force. Do you think the reputation of this class will be ruined tonight by idiots showing up without spells befitting thier level?

Most people are quitting simply because it takes more than an hour to learn one ability. I've seen five other Blue Mages in the dunes, but much more Puppetmasters and Corsairs. The Puppetmasters usually don't know they have to upgrade their AM back in Al Zahbi or someplace at level ten, so they're pretty weak.

I've been busy all day...and it seems a higher BLU magic skill means you learn faster...so I'm probably gonna go back to wimpy level 1/2 monsters and spam sprout smack to try and get more.

If you're really conserned, the only 3 spells that will serve you best in dunes are:
Sprout Smack - Slow effect
Head Butt - Stun
Wild Oats - Vit Down

The others are just to look nice and aren't all that useful at low levels.

<insert emo joke here>

I'm more concerned about cor. Blue mage takes some preparation and some thought to decide what spells are worth using, but corsair takes some real thinking on your feet to use properly. I bet a lot of people party with corsairs that don't know what context to use what rolls in, or how to double up and become disenchanted with the potential power of the job.

Feather Storm should be on that list of must get. I solo'd level fifteen on toughs and very tough goblins. Ambushers are the best, you can hit them with a Quesyshroom and pull them someplace safe, then hit them with Sprout Slap and Wild Oats, then spam Feather Storm and Pollen when you need it.

How much damage is your feather storm doing? I am kinda disappointed in the damage from foot kick and such. I need to get Queasyshroom myself.

Feather Storm has the added effect of Poison, which makes it nice.
Queasyshroom adds either poison or paralyze.

They're both nice to have, but the others are listed cause they're unique (Vit down) or you simply get their added effect faster (Slow is 13 for RDM and WHM while Stun is 37 for DRK and 45 for BLM).

Not to say those two effects aren't important, just other jobs get them and will probably use them.

Does leveling your blue magic make the additional effects more likely to land? Like with enfeebling and such? Or does it just make it easier to learn magic as someone else said?

LadyPeorth
04-21-2006, 08:06 PM
Some attacks are guarenteed to land negative status effects, like Sandspin and Sprout Smack. Others have the chance to land. Mostly though, higher Blue Magic levels seem to make learning easier.

Higher skill ensures less resists.

My Feather Storm does on average 50-60 damage to toughs.

Actually Blue mage is sucking.
I am on unicorn and i saw ONE blue mage, 101 puppemasters and 81 corsairs so far.

And because you saw only 1 you say the class sucks? I fail to see the logic in that. Blue mage takes dedication. I personally always have all my abilities 4 lvls in advance, and always will expect a good blue to do the same. The variety of attacks and abilities make this job very versatile, and not having them would be the same as a whm not having his spells. Blue mage is THE bomb stopper, it has very nice debuffs coupled with dmg, and can be a very good DD with Bludgeon. (16 BLU atm.)

Whenever I check Lakshmi I see 90-100 blue mages and 40-50 each or corsairs and puppetmasters.

Odin: 302 BLU, 120 COR, 143 PUP... as of like, right now.

LadyPeorth

Bahamut:
400+ BLU, 200+ COR, 76 PUP.

Most of those BLU quit pretty fast though...I don't really know any dedicated BLU other than those in my LS who level it for the same reason I do: I love Blue Mage...always have always will.

Seems the least known job is the one a lot of people like .

To think I have to wait still one more day to get my expansion, then I can unlock Blue Mage...

I think I know what my title is going to be now...

I'm a lvl 11 blu atm and have 13 spells you just have to have patience and keep working at it just spam pollen as often as possible to get your blu magic up and its easier to learn from what your fighting

LadyPeorth

Level 10 BLU. Current Spells:
Pollen, Sandspin, Footkick, Sprout Smack, Wild Oats, Cocoon, Metallic Body, Queasyshroom. Just need Power Attack and I can continue leveling.

But back on topic, BLU's reputation will base soley like every other mage's reputation. You will be judged on what spells you have and how you use them. This is why it is key that every BLU gets every spell they can and test each one to see which is worth equipping in a party sitatuion and a solo situation.

BLU is quite possibly the most planned job out of all others.

Yoko

Blu is now my bread and butter :D:D:D You gotta be very dedicated to do it well, as getting all the magics is VERY long/nerve testing, but like Lady said, its just so much fun when you like the job =) The rewards are all overweighting the costs in the end ^^

Hehe, you two? I am level 61 after 3 years of playing.

Worse yet, I think I am going to dual main with Blue Mage... so I wont be leveling rdm till Blue Mage gets caught up.

Not sure how well the rep of the BLU job will last.... what happens when you get a bunch of BLU together? They start showing off their spells, it turns into a contest of who has the bigger e-peen.

It's understandable to take your BLU spells seriously and be proud of every-single-spell you have, but whipping them out as some contest is juvenile. Yes BLU takes some dedication, be proud of what you've accomplished, but these early spells on just the beginning. There's roughly 93 spells out there, will you be able to get them all?

It's still premature, but hopefully the people looking for a quick trip to 75 will go play COR and leave the hardcore BLU alone. Why hardcore? You gotta be hardcore to stand hours on end to learn one single spell that you can't even equip yet.

I think the BLU will be judged like every other job... by the player.. there will be good bluemages and bad blue mages. I personally find the job very fun and i am definatley taking it to 75

Just a curiosity, what are some of the useful SJ's people are using for Blue Mage?

LadyPeorth
04-25-2006, 09:16 PM
I sub WAR myself. Hit 13 tonight, but have all my skills up to the level 20 set (I have 16-18, but no 20s yet).

I must say BLU soloing doesn't really feel much like a massive grind fest. It's fun to slap around Easy Preys in hopes you get a spell or duo with another BLU in hopes that the Dhalmel won't be a jerk.

BLU might be really one of those passion jobs...one of those jobs you just gotta love doing to fully enjoy. I know a lot of people are leveling it cause it is strong, but they absolutely hate doing it. I myself couldn't be happier.

It's not difficult if you drag along your HNMLS friends and have them PL you, that just makes you cool.

Yoko
04-26-2006, 04:44 AM
Its actually fun to play the job the way you have to when real tactics are involved though. A player that gets PL all the way to 50+ will lack the reflexes someone has when playing in regular parties. BLU is a job full of ressources, and well, up to now, ive learned to use most of them, be it in sucky pts, pl pts, good regular pts, and of course the new BLU mana burn pt XD

I just love this job. Flexible, depends a lot on your sub as to what you wanna do, its just... so on par with my playstyle! :D

you know BLU is going to get nerfed. I was in a party with two BLUs last night, and they just raped at Yuhtunga. They can heal, tank, nuke, and out-damage the best of'em. Not saying BLU is a bad job, it's awesome.

Hyrist
04-26-2006, 08:28 AM
With the new updates they tend on giving the older jobs, I tend to think (hope) that they wont nerf blue mage.

Puppet Master and Corsair are equally powerful in that respect (especially when Corsair gets a gun to use) and it would be unfitting for them to nerf a job they have just releiced so early.

Darkhound
04-26-2006, 10:16 AM
Well, i think we need to wait for later levels to see the effect on bluemage. If the job turns out to be ultra powerful, like rng used to be, it will get nerfed it is the se way. I think that some people will abandon the job just becuase it requieres alot of patience getting some abilites.

Yay, I'm not the only really slow lvler! I've had the game for about a year & a half & I'm still not 60 yet, so that makes me happy to know that I'm not the only one ^^

Personally though, I'm going up with pup. ^^

So far I am really really liking BLU. I am only level 16 as of yet, but I am enjoying all the aspects of the job. I love being able to switch out spells to get stat bonuses, or to take advantage of a monsters weakness.

I think this job is going to be one of the most versatile in the game when played with skill. I am also enjoying the fact that it looks like we will be able to use a lot of different subjobs effectively depending on the situation.

Call me crazy, but I even enjoy running around and trying to get all the spells I am capable of learning. It almost has a Pokemon "Gotta catch them all" addictiveness to it, hehe.

i quit blue mage at 36 simply because:
1.) Long LFG time
2.) 40+ spells require a party.
3.) My friends grew tired of helping me get magic, quickly!

Well for the lfg part, its normal, since there are a lot of blu's out there right now, and for the spell hunting part, i think its just fun, i like travelling so i dont mind doing it, and i often get help from friends or try my luck with another bunch of blus :p

Volunteer to help people with their Phomiuna and Sacrarium CoP runs, and you'll encounter plenty of Stegos. Even subligar farming should help.

Good luck.
