View Full Version : Has anyone successfully learned Cocoon
I have foot kick, pollen, metallic body and wild oats, yet I've killed 20 crawlers that used Cocoon and have had no luck, anyone gotten this so far?

Cocoon is lv. 8 are you at lv. 8 yet and trying this? As I understand it you have to at least be at the level the spell is to learn it.
EDIT:
NM, just noticed you said you have metalic body... If that is lv. 8 coccoon is suppose to be that level too >.>

Yea, I heard you can obtain abilties at level lower than normal, but you can't equip them. It must be extremely rare. So far I've learned everything I can at level 11, except Cocoon and Wild Oats.

9 levels. Hit with and seen all but Foot Kick. Only know Sprout Smack and Sandspin.
Finally got it yesterday. It's rediculous.
+50% Defense
Slotting gives you +3 VIT
1 Blue Magic Point, 10MP cast, approximately 45s-1m duration (probably based on Blue Magic skill)
soloing 140xp goblins? Yes, Please.

Damn, +50% Defense... That would be a sickening amount of defense if a Heavy Gear set Job had that. I mean PLDs get like what 300-400 defense? stack that on for 450-600 defense :worry:
Damn wonder if BLU gets anything that's like a Berserk. >.>

I have been having an absolutely horrid time trying to get Cocoon, its been well over 9 hours and I still havent learned it, I even gave Azure Lore a go after a crawler used it, then defeated it and got nothing ><
Edit: Right after making this post I got it XD

and this is why it's going to be nerfed. I can't say it enough.

Or hopefully S-E buffs the other classes so every class has some use in a situation..

Nah, that would make too much sense.
I think BLU's gonna get the Nerf Stick too. They can do very serious damage, and have quite an impressive MP Pool to draw from. Self Skillchain, and Self Magic Burst?
I like the damage, and I think once you have the spells, it's gotta be a fun job, but A rated Sword, good damage for decently low MP consumption is just a little over powering. PUP needs to get some Steroids, and BLU needs to be toned down a bit.
But back to the original post:
From what I'm told, 10~14 levels below a spell is the cut off. There's a Lv.40 BLU in my LS who has all the spells for his level to the best of my knowledge, and he seems to learn spells pretty easily. (However he is married to a Lv.75 PLD who helps him get all his spells. lol) My BLU's Lv.8 or 9 I think, and I can't learn Cocoon for the life of me either. Or Sprout Smack. I've spent like 3 hours Slow'd the entire time trying to learn it, and I can't. These are Vs. EP~EM Sprouts, and my Blue Magic skill is cap'd.
Maybe this is pay back for me learning Pollen on my 2nd fight as BLU, and for learning Head Butt when an Orc agro'd me and I learned it the 1st time. Another LS member is Lv.17 I believe, and he still can't learn Healing Breeze! Learning the spells for this job is so frustrating, at least for me and a couple of my LS members.

Oh god. If they nerf Cocoon then I won't be able to solo without the rediculously expensive gear. >.>;
But I'm a Support BLU because of myself having trouble making money, mainly.
(People make 12 mil a day whereas I only managed to make 10-50k/ day).

I'm not seeing the point of nerfing Cocoon. It's good, so what? It's a very handy tool, and makes the job easier to solo with and makes it a viable sub in lots of cases, but it's not overpowered.
Please, do play blu til at least 50 before saying blu is overpowered; it gets much more difficult to put out the kind of dmg we can do from like 18 to 40ish, and thats if you have enough mp, because spells that are cheap like bludgeon and all arent very effective anymore.
The mp pool is anything but overflowing. Hell, MOST of our magical spells cost like 80-150, and thats not counting the freaky ones like thousand needles or bad breath... You also have to consider that we cant rest as much as any other mage, because TP affects our spells when we use chain affinity. Anyways, dont go saying nerf blu when any other good DD can out dmg us and when our only really burst damage is once every 2 mins with CA.

Well, if you want an overflowing MP pool, sub SMN and put on as much MP gear as possible. Then eat some really expensive MP food.
My 67 WHM's MP is close to 900. My 60 BLU's MP (With MP gear and such) is only around 700~ish.
If they really want to nerf BLU, they might as well raise the cost of some Blue Magic, if not all. Other than that, I see no real point in doing so.
P.S. I just got 60 BLU last night! =D

Are you kidding? If you get all that mp stuff, you will lack the accu and the STR to make your spells land or do decent damage. And about raising the mp cost of the spells, that would be fairly stupid, since the cost of certain spells (like i said before) are way too much compared to the usefulness of the them (Ice Break comes to mind)
I cant for the life of me figure out how you could say they could raise the already huge mp cost of our spells. Have you been only using bludgeon and all those pre 30 spells? >.>;; Our mp pool is between a pld or drk and a rdm, we cant afford to have spells cost 1/4 of our mp pool =x
At any rate, for the sake of argument, at 53 my mp pool is at around 340 i think, with Elvaan RSE gloves boots and legs, and the rest of my gear focused on str and accu, along with sushi food. I mainly focus on SCing and doing decent dmg with my physical spells, along with debuffing. Frightful roar, filamented hold and what not are costing me more then enough right now along with my SA/CA mandibulars and other SA/spells so that i can only MB when my mp permits, so bringing up the cost of these spells would ruin my playstyle.
If anything, the only spell i could see toned down is Bludgeon. It is a bit over the edge at lvl 20-35, but above that its only good VS VTs, and even then the higher you go the less it becomes useful.
Keep in mind that my insight is from an elvaan blu/thf blu/nin and sometimes blu/whm.
By the way, my first comment about mp was aimed at what Tdh said, just to make sure you dont think i was targetting your post. I added a few quotes in my posts to make things clearer.

I am quite sure that there will be no nerf. Blu get decent equipment but nothing fantastic. Blue mage is just a battle mage, simply reading the description of the job made it perfectly clear "kill the enemies at long range with spells and slice him down at close range with the sword". The job is how he was supposed to be and the only way they found to balance this powerful job was to increase the cost of spells and limit the # of spells a blue mage can have at any time.

Exactly. Unless you want to be a healing BLU or a support BLU, don't do what I did by overloading on MP gear due to not being able to afford the good items. >.>;
And I'm a TARU BLU/WHM, if that clarifies things. Forgot about the other races that have less MP. Okay, Raising MP cost = BAD idea.
But then again, I was thinking like an SE Developer. *grin*

My BLU is only 14 but I have all the spells up to level 18 already. I just went out with 2 other BLU friends(same level as me) and we'd each just tank a EP mob till it did the move we wanted. Once it did we squashed it. Sometimes we'd all learn it. Sometimes no one would. Sometimes one of us would learn it while it took 20 more kills for the rest of us to get it.
Our BLU skill is maxed too. Best advice is just keep killing till you get it :x
Learning a spell can go from easy(first try) to extremely annoying(10 hours killing the same mob).
Oh and 2cents on BLU nerf:
Doubt S-E will do anything for a while. After they finish the other jobs they will then go to the ToAU jobs possibly.

Just keep at it. Get they're HP down to just a sliver of health and turn around, you know the drill. I got it at lvl 5 while wild oats I go at 10 lol. Keep at it and eventually you'll get it.
Also try capping your blu magic, if it's 32 lvls under the lvl it's supposed to be when you are allowed to equip the spell, you will not learn it. Spam foot kick and what not to lvl it and you should have it in no time.
Happy hunting.

I have a quick question regarding Cocoon. Do you continue using this spell in later levels? Or is it just the best version you can get until later in the game?

No food indeed, pld hmmm they have 375-400 def around from what I heard but unlike pld you dont have shield mastery...so anyway and no skills in shield so the defense is not as good. (meaning cutting out dmg from physical hits) its still pretty good tho.
