View Full Version : Spiral Hell
Well, not like I see requests for weapon skills on this forum (KI seems to get tons of those) but if you're curious and never seen it before, I made a small clip of it.

For which ... ground strike or spiral hell?
As for Spiral Hell, I did it with this setup:
71 THF/NIN
71 WAR/MNK
74 WAR/NIN
75 SMN/WHM
myself (70 DRK/WAR)
73 BLM/WHM
Highlights of this fight: WAR/MNK goes full blast with 2HR and dies 3 min into fight (But is happy with his 1,800+ Raging Rush) I die with 3 min left of the fight with a 1,700+ Guillotine. Yes, we were friends and just laughed about the whole thing (Including the Thundaga III which killed off everyone except the WAR/NIN and the SMN who were both clinging to 100 hp but Astral Flow saved the fight)

Hmm Ground Strike isn't that tough, it's a NM tiger in alteppha. A lot easier then Spiral Hell, as that nm is in a very bad spot in Den of Rancor ><. A good stunner and whm is pretty much neccessary for that fight for the above poster's reasons. It's an eye mob that casts some nasty magic. The upside is, if you are doing an O-hat run, it's right next to hakutaku's spawn lol. So you can probably get help easily like that.

Thanks for the info, I had a 75BST gonna solo it for me but she got lost, and couldn't find her way there, so I scrubbed the mission till a later date :(
http://www.ffxi-atlas.com/nav/?act=show&id=rancor_den
The NM is a junior of Hakutaku, but I say that lightly. It is still a rough fight and quite dangerous to solo (Due to the fact that monsters there will aggro to a 75 player) I'm not quite sure if this is soloable by a BST, but if this person has done it before, then more power to you/her. However, there is no room for the BST to run away once the NM starts up Thundaga III or similar spells. Also, I'm not really too sure, but the scorpions there are difficult to charm and your BST partner might have to 2HR once you get a successful charm. After that, I am not sure about the strength of such a pet against this monster, which casts spells like it's going out of style.
However, compared to the Ground Strike NM, this NM (IMO) was a piece of cake. Good luck to you.
Oh yah ... 0/2 on that ground strike NM, but we were doing it Spec Op style with minimal man power. Good times ...

Spiral Hell:
How I did was NIN, RDM ( me ), and a 72 DRK. He main tanked it fine. He is also best NIN on Sylph, he almost solo'ed it with the DRK but Paralyze killed them. Paralyna is a must for a mage. NIN tank best. Grab a few DDs and its a breeze
Ground Strike: Never done it. I would guess a couple DDs, I have heard THFs tanking so any high eva job with / NIN should tank it. WHM main healer prolly tiger TP attacks suk.

Both of these weaponskills are nice when used at 300%TP. The thing is, the only time you will ever actually set yourself up for a 300%TP WS is when the fight is a planned and poppable enemy (kinda like the Tu'Lia Gods or Hakutaku).
Spiral Hell - The NM is a Millioneyes type enemy in the Den of Rancor. He's not insanely hard to tank, but the paralyze is pretty potent. Make sure the WHM is on top of curing everyone caught in his directional paralyze move.
Ground Strike - This NM is a Tiger type enemy in West Altepa near the Oasis in the SW. When fighting this enemy your WHM can seriously reduce the effectiveness of the tiger's paralyze by casting both Barblizzara and Barparalyzra together. When both are up, the AoE paralyze move "Roar" has a significantly weaker chance to actually kick in.
Ground Strike @ 300% on Kirin (http://www.infieldpress.com/parser/DRK-THF%20Ground%20Strike.JPG)
Spiral Hell @ +200%TP and Martial Scythe on Deco Weapon (http://www.infieldpress.com/parser/DecoWep-SH.JPG)
The charts below helped me a ton. I've got to give credit to Callidus of the Killing Ifrit boards for posting these. They really helped me to understand how strong the effect of TP is on these two weaponskills.
Ground Strike is nice because it can open Darkness or close Light/Fragmentation. Great Sword also allows you to fall back on Spinning Slash if TP hasn't reached the crossover point. It's very skillchain friendly.

Spiral Hell has Cross Reaper to fall back on, but that weaponskill won't consistantly put up the same numbers that it's Great Sword cousin will. The TP crossover point is around 150%TP-160%TP with a Martial Scythe.

In an XP party, I really enjoy the use of Martial Weapons when performing these. When allowed to precharge TP to it's max, I use the Death Scythe and Balin's Sword.

Got SPIRAL HELL with help of a pick up pt, took me about 3hrs to put it together 30 mins to get there, and all of 4 mins to sqaush the NM. Ground strike is next soon as I hit 72, only 2k away.
Thanks for the info on the Tiger NM Archain. :)
Two things to take into consideration:
(1) Type of monster fighting. This translates to the weakness of the monster. Each WS has an elemental property, unless otherwise identified (For example, Spirits Within is a physical damage ignoring defense-type parameters and is non-elemental)
(2) The day of the week generally known as the elemental time. Since WSs usually are aligned with an elemental property, it therefore follows that the day it is used on can adversely or positively affect the damage.
Anyway, other than those two points that were not mentioned, I think that's an interesting data. Can expand on that by taking into account the two points above and maybe even allow for creative STAT modifying (If only as a comparison)
My personal experience? Martial Scythe rocks the casba with Spiral Hell. At first, I hated SH, because I saw insignificant returns for the TP used. But, after getting Martial Scythe, I'm nicely pleased with the results, garnering consistent 900~1,200 range in damage on various NMs and IT mobs (Using SA and having 150%)
