View Full Version : Newbie: Class Development
I just started playing the game last night (3 hours playtime) and I have a few questions about all the classes that are available.
Question1: Are all basic classes available and all advanced classes available to anyone at anytime as long as you do a quest and are level 30 for Advanced classes? Or do you have to be a certain class to get advanced classes? If not then is the only reason to pick a good basic class before an advanced class is for the lap over in weaponskill advancement etc?
Question2: If I want to be a DRG/NIN how do you set this up? Play warrior and sub something else then become a Dragoon then sub a ninja? Or can you have only 1 advanced class and 1 basic class?
I would love if someone could explain this stuff. My head is spinning with all the possibilities.
I just relized I keep calling them classes and not jobs. Oops.
Anyway if someone give me an example that would be great. Some of the guides don't really explain much.
P.S. Since it's all just theory right now, whats a good example of leveling up to be a corsair for the next XPac?

first of all, drg/ nin is not very good. drg/war is much, much better. (drg/whm when soloing)
second, once you reach level 30, you have the option to complete quests to unlock the extra jobs. yes, you can have all jobs unlocked all on the same chatracter.
to get drg/war, first take monk to level 18, unlock your subjob ability (it's a quest you complete in selbina)
once you've unlocked our subjobs, go talk to your moogle to switch your job to war/monk and take that to at least 30. then change your job to drg/war and have fun :)

1. yes, all jobs are available as long as you do the quests (for advanced jobs) to unlock them.
2. don't be a DRG/nin!
level WAR (with an appropriate subjob) to 30, do the DRG quest, level DRG/war to whatever
edit: doh! beaten to the punch.
you can look at the dragoon forums for a break down on the class... drg.nin is not the greatest set up but it can work. if you have ne other 1s pm me or start a thread in drg forums.

Basic Jobs are available to everyone right from the begining. Level 30 or higher of any job is the requirement to recieve the quest for an extra job (AKA advanced job, but don't mistake them as being better or mandatory than basic jobs.) To recieve the quest you must speak to the NPC as the job you have leveled to or past 30. Completing the quest will unlock the Job, allowing you to switch to it at a mog house as usual.
Question2: If I want to be a DRG/NIN how do you set this up? Play warrior and sub something else then become a Dragoon then sub a ninja? Or can you have only 1 advanced class and 1 basic class?
MNK to 18
subjob quest
WAR/MNK to 30
NIN quest
DRG quest
NIN/WAR to 30-37
DRG/NIN to 75
But God help you if you don't change your mind on that combo. ;)

The above should help. Nobody knows exactly how Corsair works yet so we don't know what subjobs will benefit it most. Those who already have jobs over level 30 (most players) will simply install the xpack and trot off into the new lands to find new quests.
Edit: Damn I'm slow.
