HEY! ^^b im a fisherman, only lvl 3 though, yeah im a n00b fisher i dont mind to admit it, but i was wondering what else there is to catch besides moat carps. In bastok the sell form 11-12k, thats good gill, but its 2k to get insect paste in Bastok. So if you would please let me know if there is something else i can catch, lemme know what bate to use....i got a Halycon rod so yeah....... PEACE!

At your level, moats are pretty much the only thing to catch for gil. If Bastok isn't in last place in conquest, you can pick up some little worms at the shop behind the AH in Mines and save some money on bait.

Well from level 10-20 there still aren't any fish better than Moat Carp to fish for money.

For those levels, I fished Yellow Globes in Mhaura with a Sabiki Rig til about 17, and finished off the rank on Cheval Salmon and Shining Trout in East Ronfaure with a Fly Lure.

Once you hit 20 you can start skilling up and making money again by fishing Nebimonite on the ferry with Crayfish Paste.

some fish price on my server. i mean the popular gil fish
- moat carp 10-15k/12 cap 11
- nebimonite cap 20something, 25-30k/12
- shall shell 30-40k/12 cap 53
- blue tail cap 55 15-20k/12
- bhafhel marlin cap 61? 10k/each
- gavial fish cap 81 10-15k/each
- gigant squid cap 91 15-20k/each
- grimmonite 12-18k/each cap 90
- blacksole 30-40k/12 cap 96

as you can see, it's kinda weird how low skill fish can be as profitable as high level fish sometimes. You have to learn about the market and see which fish is in low supply and go for it. You might want to consider taking up cooking to 24 too so you can make your own insect paste. (paste caps at 29, so you can train skill on it from 24 to 29 too.)

I was on today and noticed that the shop behind the AH in Bastok doesn't have little worms anymore. Can someone tell me what's going on? Will it start selling them again soon?

if bastok is 3rd place in conquest, the store will not have little worm. kinda weird huh for something so simple.
sandoria and windurst tho I believe they always have little worm for sell regardless of their conquest.

I started in Bastok and I have bought little worms from him before. That's how I got started into fishing. So was there not supposed to be litle worms there to begin with?

once a week at sunday there will be a conquest shift. the country with more regions ruled will be higher place. you can check it in the menu, under region info.
so when you started, bastok probably wasn't the 3rd. but now it is.

Interesting thread gonna keep it in favourites ;p

One question about fishing, has fishing changed a lot since lets say.. summer 2004? I know there have been some patches and adjustments but I dont know exactly how it has changed. Can someone explain it to me? Thank you! Sorry for the cuasi-hijack :P

there was a patch that changed fishing into a total new thing, the way it is today. I don't remember when this did happen tho.

Well, I'll have to rediscover fishing this summer then! Hope that the change was for better :) At least, new zones look nice!

I thought Moat Carps capped @14?

Unless this was changed in a patch, the cap is definitely 11. I fished enough of these buggers (way back when, that is) to know this for sure.

Dunno what it is on other servers, but Black Sole is now 80K a stack and sushi is 100K a stack.

I'm new to ffxi and picked up fishing. As being a level 15 whm its the only craft I can do with little money and make some at the same time. Someone told me not to fish its the worst profit in the game. What should I do? I like to fish but I don't wanna waste time?

Fishing is steady profit, which is (to me) better than the uncertain profit of other ventures. If you like fishing, and you have been doing well with it, I see little reason not to continue.

At low lvls, I found fishing to be the only way to make decent money. A stack of Moat Carp sells for around 9-10k and if you're lucky and pull up a rusty subligar, those sell for about the same. I don't know if it's profitable a higher lvls and it probobly isn't but it is one of the best ways to make money early on.

Ok thanks I will continue then. Can I fish up Moat carp even if they stop yielding skill gains?

Yes you can fish up any fish, given your are at the right place, with the right bait and have the skill to reel them in.
I actually think moats are still the mainstay of a fisherman's money makers until you get much higher level.

I would just fish moats until you don't need them to make your gil anymore. Well, unless you really enjoy it, then keep on fishing. I don't fish very often these days, too busy trying to lvl or farm, but when I do, I fish moats. Still don't even have it capped yet. They have a cap in the area of 10 I think so it will take you a long time to hit cap unless you fish for skill gaining fish first.
