Blue magic has also been learned in previous games by having that magic cast upon you (and living through it right?)

I'm assuming that if theres ever a blue mage class, it'll be able to learn monsters abilities too, not just specifically "magic." For instance the gob grenade, and so on.

It'd be cool if the job was added eventually. I bet the AF would look like the costume in FFV with the blue mask and everything.

You said it, Mecha! BLU AF would be SO cool, blue beret and all! ;)
Yeah, you have to get hit and live through it, or rather, be alive at the end of the battle. If you had to live through the spell, what would you do for Lv5 Death?

Blue Mages are pretty neat. It's been different how they learn abilities through the FF games. In FF9, Quina ate monsters to learn abilities, in FF8 Quistis learned by using items, in FFX Kimahri used Lancet (which was originally a Dragoon skill) to learn "the fiend's way of fighting". ;) In FFV you had to get hit with the spell..

I think if they DO have Blue Mages eventually, they'd probably learn Blue Magic the same way as in FFV..

I Hope there will be Blue mages! in fact, i hope there will be Blue mages in the expansion! (im just wishing, not saying there will be)

*sigh* well as long as they are still a rumor (well, maybe just a prefered thought) i'll stick to my BST plans. Monster abilities rock!

ugh, i hated Gau :spin: worst blue mage ever :spin: now, a g00d blue mage is from FFV :handsdown fun job to play around with, or Quina (FFIX) :spin: s/he was my favorite blue mage character in any FF

so, anyways, i dont see a blue mage in FFXI, because as far as i know, there aren't many monster specific attacks... and, that would put the blue mage at a great disadvantage. (unless square adds a buttload of magic the blue mage can get...) but, overall, it just doesnt seem like a practical class for a MMORPG, and methinks square knows this as well

blue mage, ahhh that would be such a nice class to add

and dont forget how lethal a blue mage is after learning the ultimate FF enemy move EVER!

Bad Breath....its the move you love to hate till you learn it ;)

I hate Malboros!!! they are creepy looking and always have that nasty move :dead: (though i dont know how lethal it is in this FF)

but yeah, if they do do it, ill put my money on it being like 5.

Its not the easiest thing to program, but it isnt impossible either. I hope they get it in there eventually.

maybe the Dragoon class will have Lancet...

(in FFX its a blue mage attack but itwas mainly for dragoons before)

Thus making Dragoons kinda like blue mages.

nah, i hated how lancet was in FFX... grrrrrr, it sukked bad, and kimahri sucked even worse ::hates kimarhi:: see, in FFV, it r0x0red, especially if you were a mage. just go "shloop" with the little dragon thingy, and u get lotsa MP back  that would be pretty cool as a sub (i occasionally played around with that in FFV :spin: it was cool on bosses that attack ur MP, then you just go "shloop" and yoink it back  ) so, anyways, back on topic, i guess it IS possible to put it in, but as you said, fox, it will be a bitch to program. it should just be how it has been in pretty much every other FF: if it hits you, you might get the attack. i like that betta  than it was in FFX

it'd be an easy class to play financially because you don't have to buy spells, and as a mage you'd get protected so you can slack on the armor and weapons a bit. Judging from what i've heard about drop rates and such, SE would probably make some infernally low chance that you'd actually learn the skill each time you saw or had it used on you. Personally i've always thought blue mages were silly, and i wouldn't mind seeing them not be included in this one.

lol yeah, they do seem kinda strange at times.

But man they get some of the best moves...and they arent silly if you think of them in the way like "they study thier opponents moves and learn to use them against others" then it makes them sound downright kick ass.

I think it would make a nice new addition to the game. They need more classes to make it mroe costomizing (i still want more face/hair options :( ) Its nice to see even more diversity amoung people. I never used Blue Mage in FFV, but i liked the class being there. Plus it would be fun scouring the land as a blue mage to "learn everything there is" it would make teaming up and questing much more enjoyable because besides leveling, youll be learning skills you couldnt otherwise learn. As a sub class it shouldnt be able to learn skills, but use the ones it knows, that would make one nice subclass though.

Actually, I consider Strago to be the designated Blue Mage for FFVI. Gau's just some weird... spinoff class?

You are correct though, it was a pain to build up Gau's skills. Stago's too, but it wasn't quite as much an ordeal.

Oh, and the question about 'What to do about LV 5 death'? Well, aside from reviving yourself ASAP, the answer is 'Make sure you're not a level divisible by 5' ^_^
