Chocobo breeding? Yes, please.
Mog Locker? I think I can just spend the extra dollar a month for a mule and get 80 slots.

Job balance adjustments? Who's next on the chopping block? BLM? I bet RNG's get hit atleast inadvertently again.
Mog Locker service. I really wonder how much its gonna be, and if it will accessible through your MH or only like the AF storage guy.
Merit Point adjustments. Is this where they're gonna add the new abilities and magic etc., you think?
Chocobo Breeding. Umm....hellz yes.
New Aht Urghan story, those liars, they said this would not be a story intensive expansion, now I have even more crap I'm gonna have to do.
Racing the chocos sounds incredible.
Multi-player battle area additions? Does that mean new BCNM's? Or something new?
The Colosseum. I can only imagine this has something to do with Assault, but it makes me drool just thinking about it.
This expansion just keeps looking better and better.

Not to burst your bubble, but if male mithras were introduced, the entire history of Vana'diel would be in question. :P

im guessin Choco Breeding is gonna run along the same lines as the NPC.
You'll be able to call it for like a 5min ride to begin with until it gets more used to you. I just hope they have the "look" option that NPC Quest did.
I would LOVE to have a bald Chocobo with a beard!

Hopefully you can color them or something. I don't expect it to be able to run over water and mountains, but just having a black or gold choco would be very sweet.

Why don't you just have your mules share the same account as you main and just send stuff between your mules and your main? Then you'd only be paying $2 extra instead of $24...

Who said the 'Mog Locker' is going to be paid for using real-life funds?
Also, while .dat modding is fun, it really sucks, because other players don't see what you have on. It might be just me, but I'm extremely bothered when I know everyone else sees the original model, when I'm seeing something completely different.
LOL, 2 dollars a year would be shweet

From what I was reading about the developers talk while it was being shown they said that the Chocobo's you breed "won't neccisarily be yellow".

Hm, nice timeline Kafeen. While I'm excited about the new stuff I can't help but wonder why Squaresoft didn't learn from the CoP fiasco. Yay for finished expansions with half the content locked?

I assume the chocobo breeding system will be similar to FFVII. This is exactly what I've always hoped they'd do with chocobo in the game...

This is exactly what I thought of CoP as well. Too many inaccessible content and you actually pay for it (It's not like SE gave it to you via a free download as part of your monthly subscription)
All I can say is, if you paid for it, it's yours.

Would you rather have it in waves or all at the end of the timeline in one big chunk? If downloading patches and updates is involved than I would rather have it in smaller pieces. Not to mention this is their way of getting the goods to us as fast as possible.

I think you're misunderstanding here. You have the content already on these game discs. You install them. Now, I'm all for SE to "unlock" bits at a time. However, if it involves having stupid missions and being in an end game LS to accomplish them, then that's retarded. I'd rather SE release them over time versus having only a very few l337 people get it all in a month while the rest of us struggle to get to even 20% of the content before the next expansion is released.

IGN had an interview with Hiromichi Tanaka. Tanaka specifically stated that the devteam does not want to do away with Chocobo rental stables. Because of this, initially the chocobo you raise cannot be ridden in normal areas. To travel from area to area on chocobo, you'll still have to rent one from the stable. For some time, you'll only be able to ride your pet chocobo at the Chocobo Circuit. Tanaka did state, however, that the devteam is looking into ways to involve your chocobo in many more ways in the game. I'm sure there will eventually be plenty of quests and events that involve using your own chocobo.

I can already envision it in a scenario involving the Beseiged events. Basically, the monsters that come through will either be numerous (a la Dynamis) or just really tough (like the event in beta) Having the ability to ride in town on a chocobo means speedier responses to a breach in a part of the town. Maybe even include the ability to add stats from the chocobo to your character. Hence, the different kinds of chocobo available to raise.
In effect, creating a 2nd subjob to the main/1st subjob combo.

I would rather have an expansion's worth of content and then have patches that add to that content. Not pay for the year's patch compilation. The problem with CoP (and potentially ToA) is that SE gave us an expansion that was mostly complete and locked over 60% of it at launch.
It's the equivelant of buying a book and finding out the second half of it is locked. Then having the author send you the key six months after you bought it.
The Chocobo stuff definitely sounds exciting though.

Well the best way to get around not liking the content locked is not buying the expansion. Voice your opinion with your $$. But as long as people keep buying it knowing that they won't have full access, its just like saying you approve.

/nerd Actually it's called a "boycott."
But really, I'm honestly not gonna bother with any complaints about that this time. This is the third expansion, I'd expect everyone to get used to the way SE does expansions by now.
I'd much rather they take their time with a few things at a time than try to work on it all at the same time. If that were the case, we wouldn't be seeing this expansion released until the end of the year.

The only reasons I can see SE staggering content release is...
1. Its not finished
2. They want more money
#2 can be two-faced, people can get pissed they cannot finish the expansion and quit... or they can get annoyed at the game but keep paying and just playing when new content is released. SE wants the second one of those.
Ohh and.. RoZ also had mission locks lol, amusing considering we can do the whole thing in one night now.

I have a few questions...
1. Will the new chocobo be on the stables or in your mog?
2. I wonder if this will start by having a chocobo egg and you have to make it grow.
3. I definatley want a black chocobo... but considering that everyone will have one.. ill go gree, blue or white........ IIRC there are black chocobos out there....
4. I wonder how you will meet with other Chocobos....
5. Will we be able to name our chocobo?

I don't really understand why people complain about the staggered implementation of content. So you pay 30 bucks, roughly two months of fees, for a huge infusion of art content, new missions, story, huge new areas to explore AND every month thereafter SE will be giving you additional new content that people without the expansion won't have access too. "But I want all that content now. ; ;" Shut up and stop whining. If this were a first person shooter your expansion would be a map pack with a small fraction of the additional depth and content that Aht Urgan is adding, with none of the added value over time, for nearly the same price. I don't remember the last time I heard a Halo player complaining that their map pack didn't grow every month for no cost more than what you pay to play the game, but FFXI gives you that and some people still find room to complain about it? :wtf:
What if they didn't do that and made you wait until all the content was complete before letting you play any of it? Then you know people would complain. Whereas every other developer/publisher in the world would tell you "It's done when it's done," SE builds the foundation and says "Here's what we've got so far, please take it and enjoy it. We'll give you the rest for free when it's done." What is wrong with that?
Yes, I know it's not "free" because you're paying monthly fees, but it costs the same to play with the expansion as without, so the amount you pay more than a hypothetical person who's boycotting the game is $0. Imo, someone who decides to do that is only screwing themselves.
Quick edit: About the locked content Aeni mentioned, are you sure the inaccessible content was complete on the disc, and the only thing preventing you from playing it was a variable SE set to "not yet?" I have no prepared rant for that. >_> Don't really see the sense in it other than possible to keep people from rushing it as mentioned. I have to imagine the content was not actually complete.

1.) To make sure there are no bugs, on three platforms
2.) Its more managable in case there is a huge bug
3.) Non-stagered allowed for more hype, allows for more money
4.) Plain and simple logistics
5.) A CD simply isn't big enough to hold the content
There could be lots of reasons why they stagger, and not of them are neccessarily painting SE as the bad guy.

What I find really funny is that the staggered implementation of content is kind of common among any MMORPG. Some MMORPGs are just better at hidding it then others, it all comes down to do you like being lied to with it being hidden away or would you prefer the lie be visible?
If you like the lie to be hidden from you then go play EQ or Lineage II, otherwise WoW and FFXI both make that design fairly obvious as friend of mine had discovered with WoW. Boy was he pissed when he spent a month preparing for a certain fight and wasting 16 hrs fighting that monster and losing then finding out after that the monster was intentionaly designed to be unbeat-able at the current time. That way it was impossible for the players to advance in the game until they wanted them to, then they just remove the factor that made the monster unbeatable.
WoW own GM group admitted to this design being intentional, very much to the same design of locking content away.

Well, as I see it, you can either get 70% of the expansion in April, 10% in June, 10% in August, and 10% in October (estimates, obviously), or they could wait until it was finished to release it and nobody gets anything till October.
And if you really don't want to buy an unfinished expansion - don't. Wait a few months until it's finished and then buy it. It might even be cheaper by then.
Caspian
03-13-2006, 05:03 PM
If people did get the whole thing at once, they'd be bitching two weeks later when they finished it and had to wait two years for another expansion.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't 7 the only one to have choco breeding? In that one it helped if your choco was a very faster racer. Maybe winning on the circuit will help chances of getting another colored choco?
Rather than "feeding" the crystal to the egg, it could be that you put it in the nest with the egg so that the crystal energy can be infused into the egg. I don't know, kinda talking outta my ass at this point, but it sounds like a possibility to me atleast.

All of the zones in COP were included on the CD. I am unsure about the monsters & the text. (Most likely the text was not included, as you can read that without being ingame.)
But yes, the zones are included in the DVD. They are too much memory for an update.
(Yes I know for a fact that the zones were included on the DVD.)

Nope. Its actually a timeline by Month. Aght urgan comes out in april, which is month 4 that the picture is pointing at... Squeenix doesnt plan to implement chocobo breeding until month 6... so we wont see that stuff until June-ish at the very earliest. The racing circuit wont open until september which means you'll have 3 months to get that fledgeling chocobo into racing shape!
