Spell Swapper is a program that swaps spell effects, weapon skills, job abilities, etc. automatically. To use the program, first set it to your regional location. See the Set Dir paragraph for more info on this.

Swapping Effects
To swap effects, click the first button that says "Swap Spells." From here, you can scroll through the entire list, click a category to quickly find a group of spells, or use Search to find a specific effect. First, select the spell you want to change, and hit the OK button. Then, select the spell you wish the first spell be changed to. When you hit OK, you should get the message "Files swapped successfully." Please note that you must restore a spell in order to change it to a different spell.
3-9-06 Program Update allows you to list effects by game. Select All to show all spells from every game, select FFXI to show all the original effects and spells, Zilart for spells from Rise of the Zilart, and etc.

Restoring Spells
To restore changed spells to their origional, click the second button that says "Restore Spells." Select the spell you wish to restore, and press the "Restore Spell" button. You should get the message "File restored successfully."

Updating your List of Spells
To update your list of spells and effects, select the third button "Update Spell List." Your Program Version, version of your current Spell List, and version of the update Spell List will be displayed, as well as information about the update spell list. Press the "Update List" button to download the new list.

Selecting Regional Settings
If you are unable to use the program, it may be because you must first set your regional settings. To do this, select the fourth button, "Set Dir." From here, you can select your region, or manually type in the location of your Final Fantasy XI\ folder.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

If you are having problems with the program, please make sure there is a folder named "Backups" where you unzipped Spell Swapper. The new version update should fix this anyways.

Now all we need is a "View Spell," "Import Spell," and "Export Spell."

Maybe even one panel, with tabs: swap, and view if you get that far. Mebe something ala MV? :D

edit: And considering you can actually find a way to view spells, perhaps create a way for the spell list to autoupdate itself! For example, a .lst that comes with the viewer. Now, the viewer will automatically update that .lst if there was a recent FFXI update. Perhaps it can somehow detect if FFXi.dll was updated, and from there, know if it has to scan for new .dats, and update accordingly...? Then, there can be a button when you view an unnamed spell that will allow you to enter a spell name. Also, clicking this button on any named spell will allow renaming. Maybe I should study these dats more so I can make a real spell viewer-- I wonder what language(s) I'd need to learn :p

Thanks for the input, we were thinking about an Import/Export type thing erlier. We're even looking into making a spell viewer.. But, about your Auto-Update suggestion, there really isn't a way to check if .dats in updates are spells, normal textures, models, etc.

Double Post Edited:
I've just made a new update to the spell lists, click the "Update Spell List" button to attain the new information.

In this update, you can select the Chapter 1 intro CS!! Here are some screenshots:

I was kind of depressed when I downloaded this and found out that the fireworks weren't part of the spell switcher...is there any plans to add them in?

Lucres
03-13-2006, 03:40 PM
Aye, yes, I've been searching for many of the fireworks, Papillion is my priority. I do however have 3 fireworks listed, the Summer Festival fans and the Ghost Mask.. I'll add any fireworks I see in the future.

Edit : I should say, I'll add any MORE fire works I see in the future. :)
As for the Verilai song, is that a Bard song? Or an enemy attack? That'll help me add it faster. :)

And, also, I'd like to make a request: If any of you can find the names to the Enemy Attacks that are listed under NPC Effects, please let me know the proper names so that I can change them. :)

eli

Virelai is a level 75 Bard song.. the same effect as Charm but the animation is a lot better than Charm.

Thanks!

I'm adding a LOT of Bard songs, I hope one will be that one. :) (And hopefully you'll be able to help me name some! Hehe.)

Tryed this out, and swaped a couple WS and spells. Works fine and is easy to use but it seems the restore spells thing doesn't work, which sucks. You might want to fix that.

Edit: Restarting FFXI seemed to fix this problem.

Lucres

If you do it while playing the game, you will need to change areas for backups to work. Once a spell is used in the field, the game has that spell loaded into memory. When you change zones, the spell is unloaded and read from the .DAT again next time it is used.

So in short, if you change while playing the game, you'll need to zone for backup restore to take effect.

The Dark buffs you have listed are the elegy series of spells.
The Light buffs are March.
The Crosshairs are prelude.
Clocks are Goblin Gavotte.
The purple-red paint is Herb Pastoral.

I haven't looked at them all, but the glyphs look like the 2nd teir bar songs.
The circling colored diamonds are the etudes. The larger ones are 2nd tier.
The Stone2 bard song is Gold Capricco. (bar-petra song)

Just thought I'd help.
Great work you've done!

Nice! Thank you very much, Mitsune!

I have no IDEA how some people can keep up with their Ctrl+M magic list..
Imagine, having every single WHM, RDM, BLM, SMN, NIN, and BRD spell... the thought makes my heard hurt considering my already hard-to-manage list... >_<!

Is there any way to view the animations without going into FFXI and .dat swapping?

Lucres
03-22-2006, 03:45 AM
That is something everyone wants, and would require a whole other program. And unfortunatly, no one has (publicly) released a program that does so.
I've done my best to describe effects that I do not know the names of (with the occasional lazyness :D ), and hopefully I'll either encounter these effects in-game, or someone else would have and posted the corrected name.

hey lucres, i got a slight problem with mine, i switched the voke for brenner voke, but it stayed the same, i also switched thunder thrust out, and then when i reverted it it made my mithra's arms turn deformed and her weapon was like a very burned twig.

Any ideas what i did?

Try zoning to see if that fixes it. Like I said, backups won't take effect in-game unless you zone.

This is a really cool program, good job!
I'll do some looking around for what alot of these are called, I recognize quite a few of them but can't remember from where exactly and will update later if no one can elaborate^^
-The 2 ???s in NPC are both extra version of Carnal Nightmare for some reason, and you have it as "Cardinal" instead of "Carnal".
-In Black Magic the "Unknown" is Break(petrifies). You have some White spells listed as Break and Breakga which should probably be Stona or something.
-And I'm pretty sure that Black crystal warp is what a certain evil NPC in the Fellowship quest series uses to warp, and Vibrating light explosion is Blessed Radiance, the Fellowship NPC 2hr.
-Dark, Light, and Wind Teleport (in) and (out) are warp items. I can't recall from memory exactly what each is but I know Light works for Tavnazian Ring, Ducal Grd Ring, and possibly Homing Ring.
-Sparkly Light that follows you like tinkerbell looks like Glass of Blessed Radiance. Evil Torso glows looks Mirror of Blighted Gloom until you move.
-Lazer beams is Guide Missile, Machine blind attack and I think a few others right after those are also Omega TP moves. I should be fighting him on Wed. so I'll pay attention.
-[COP]Swirling Flames is a bugard or buffalo buff, or maybe both. Edit; It's definitely Scutum, bugard EVA boost, but it may also still be the Buffalo one. It's also Unblest Armor on true sight saurs.
-[COP] Purple energy attack is Blighted Gloom.
-Crystal is the buff move for adamantoise family.. I want to say Harden Shell, but I'm not sure why I don't think that's right.
-[Zilart]Ice Sword attack is Heavenly Strike isn't it?
-[COP] Wind shockwave is Brontotaur family AoE defense down 'Frightful Roar'
-[COP] Green Mist is Uragnite AoE poison...
-Fire strikes might must be Tiamat's spit move, which has no name
-Fire shockwave would be the aftermath of Inferno Blast
-The 3 Flame xxxxs might also be Tiamat but I can't tell by casting them on myself. :x Edit: After fighting Bugards One of them is Tail Roll, Bone Crunch, and one of them Tusk but I can't tell the difference.
More.. and multiple castings of some of these make me doubt them, since I can't be looking at a mob do it T_T
-Strong drain Spirit kick look like an ahriman move
-Circling glyphs looks like Sea pots, have to check

I'll look at some more next time I get bored.

However when I try to change the face, (because I want the black haired Elvaan) it doesn't change. Am i the only one who notices that any time you swap your spells out with a monster effect-- that your character's body floats/warps/melts/twists and looks like it has gone through a series of trash compactors?

Lucres
03-30-2006, 06:55 PM
Aye, that's because the animation doesn't match your character's make-up. An arm bone in a monster may be a leg in a player character, for example.

1. Make sure there is a folder named "Backups" where you put SpellSwapper.exe
2. If you're selecting the "Custom Path" option, make sure that it a. is set to the folder named FINAL FANTASY XI, and b. has a \ at the end of the path.

Just a question to all the users we have for this. We're totall revamping this program, which will include a few graphical changes. I always thought the change from black and blue to default grey was, while functional, awkward. What are your thoughts on a customizable color scheme? Would that be something desirable, or something you just don't care about? Thanks.

Great news, everyone! The new Program Version of Spell Swapper is near release!! Here is an overview of some of the new features.
-----------------------------------------------

"Information" Section
The information section is your one-stop section for any help that you need. Within it are three options: "About," which lists who helped make this project possible, "Help and FAQs," where you can get information and help on any questions or issues you may have, and finnaly a "Submit a Correction" page, where you can submit a change to an incorrectly labled spell.

"What's New?" Section
The "What's New?" section is a simple list of the newly added spells for each List Update. You can see what has been added or changed in one quick glance, instead of searching through the endless Spell List.

edit: Please check the new topic for the new program update!
