This stuff is in the new issue of Famitsu, taken notes from 2ch (http://news19.2ch.net/test/read.cgi/gamenews/1141207424/223).
New system: Besiege
Tribes invade Al Zahbi, trying to capture the Magic Flute.
When the monsters invade, martial law is proclaimed. Those who can fight are obliged to.
It is basically like Garrison, but within a city.
Allies are officers - volunteers, immortal army, empire's soldiers, five-snake generals (fire, earth, water, wind, sky snakes - 5 generals using 2 of the names), Qiqirn soldiers (the new fox race), Goblin soldiers (some of these also betray).
Enemies are:
Undead army: Lamia, Mellow (looks like Lamia), Qutrub, Draugar (skeletons).
Mamool Ja army: Warriors, Sages (Lemur-like? Mamool Ja), Zizu (brown cocatrice) and Pook (small dragons)
New area: Wajarm forest

That's incredible. /drool
Curious to find out what you do if you don't want to fight (do the mobs aggro?) or if noone defends does something really bad happen?

Sounds very cool. I hope Beseige is a little more fun than Garrisons, which it looks like it will be.
Any idea if pics of the new area will be shown?

The questions I have would be:
What triggers a besieged event? Do players trigger it through an item like garrison or is it triggered like a mission-type?
Is it something that happens *randomly* like pirate attacks on the ferry?
We'll get the answers soon enough. Thanks for the newsflash Johnnyram.

Too much text? I thought I shrunk the size to make it smaller and manageable, but I'll cut it for now.

Looks like those people who used to guard the entrances to selbina & kazham before the MPK patch got their wet dream granted.
Side Note: NEEDS TO SEE THE POOK.
In all seriousness, This looks great and I am truly looking forward too it.
Besiege looks like the all-or-nothing throw down Conflict used to be (or rarely is, I should say) and Dynamis should have been.
For some reason, when I hear Pook, I'm reminded of the 'Draggy' character from Chrono Cross (Writen before pics were shown.)

I'd think it'd be awesome if it were random like the pirates attack. You're just mindin your own business shoppin in a city when all of a sudden *BAM* blind sided by a beastman. =D
Certainly sounds fun though

I wonder if you'll lose exp in this or if it'll be more like Ballista. IE: When you die you lose no exp but are penalized for a few minutes before you can jump back into the fray.
Ziero
03-08-2006, 10:42 AM
The ballista method would prolly be best if it is a surprise attack thing. But if it's a popped event, such as garrison, it'll most likely have exp loss. But the real question is, and this was asked earlier, what might happen if you lose?

03-08-2006, 11:30 AM
Well, I'm guessing the Lamia would attack during night, and the Beastmen would attack during the day... if an attack is scheduled/triggered during those times.
I agree, it would be awesome if the attacks were random events....no bazaar market will pop up there. Sometimes I fantasize about a large beastman attack in Batallia near the Jeuno zone line. Wipe out all sort of AFK people. It would be hilarious.

I think that makes it sound like you can't really prepare for these.

it may be a when initiated (with an item like garrison) those in the area are pulled in to attack and all :x

Looking forward to a couple things:
Town comes under fire and everyone starts shouting for tele's, and then the jerkoffs shouting for their casino's.
Betting its a random pop thing like pirates. You're checking AH when you get a cutscene for them attacking and have to either choose to stay and fight or run to MH with your tail b/w your legs.

Hmm, this thought just occured to me. It could be, that the Mamook Ja tribes invade Al Zahbi. They're going in looking for 'the magic flute'. Ok. So what happens if they get it?
Then you go back to their home base and get it back. Makes sense, ya? Dunno how it would work really, seems alot less of a FFXI procedure that we're used to if it goes on with that, it'd be a continously moving, watched over event. But it would certaintly make things more interesting, a constant war between the many forces of the continent.

Ziz
The war birds of the Mamool Ja. Generally employed as pack animals, the ziz possess an aggressive demeanor and are occasionally released to wreak havoc upon enemy forces. They have a tendency to become fixated on prey that is small enough to swallow whole.

If you read the official site, you'll see they are volunteer soldiers and imperial soldiers ;)
The blue mage in that pic is likely one of the Immortals that fights alongside you.

This could be one of the ways SE is making it a little bit more soloable becouse if monsters are going to rnadomly attack the city there will be all different lvl of people in there so they might have it so when you attakc a monster or a monster attacks you it becomes your lvl or something.

Check out the FFXI official site, the besieged section describes the different beastmen. My favorite are the new cockatrice called Ziz "The war birds of the Mamool Ja. Generally employed as pack animals, the ziz possess an aggressive demeanor and are occasionally released to wreak havoc upon enemy forces. They have a tendency to become fixated on prey that is small enough to swallow whole."
The last part is the best. All taru immediately report to the high ground.

There's a lot of talk about the "Tactics" of the seige and how each army is made up (i.e. The Ziz only occasionally join the battle when they are hungry for Taru, and the Merrow occasionally respond to the Lamiae's requests, etc). I sure hope that there actually is some strategy to defending the seiges and not just, "OMG seige, zerg zerg zerg!" Hopefully the layout of the city will allow for strategies of ambushes, diverges, strongholds, and even some all out battles in moderation.
Basically I'm just hoping all this tactical talk on the website isn't just to make it look flashier.

This definatley definatley looks very very intresting. But I would like to share somre thoughts with you and get some feedback guys.
I havent had time to do much research, so please correct me If I am wrong.
1. This new expansions seems to be focusing alot on Events, like assault and besiege. Which ok, look intresting and fun. But we need to consider that fact that not everyone (and I am one of those) really is on to those events that much. I rarely do ballista at all! I am more of an exploring, mission quest story type of guy. I do know that alot of people like ballista and such, so that is a good thing for them. But it seems from my personal point of view, that this expansion is heading on a different way. Not saying its good, not saying its bad, it just feels different.
Are things like assault, and beseige responses to features found in games like WoW and L2? Will there be a good and intresting story as CoP had? Will we have plenty of new areas to explore and not just a few?
2. SE needs to make ToA a BIG think in order to keep us interested. People in this game are hardcore players (well most of them) and many have done about almost everything. Events like asault and Besiege dont seem to be that STRONG to keep players interested for that long. It will be a trend for a few weeks but will it get Old soon?
3. CoP left many plotholes and many things unanswered, just to mention a few....
They never really explianed what happened to Bahamut and his minions once they left.... they never really explained what will happen with the A01 B01 floating islands, Tenzen just left.... what about him... and most improtant of all..... the last thing we see on the COP cutscene is a phoenix feather...................
Thanks and please givem e some feedback

It's very possible that unless these events give out "uber" items, no one will care for them and probably become an annoyance to most people.

I think SE has done a great job keeping me interested for 4 years already.
Promathia Finished pretty well I think, Tenzen left for reasons explained when the female Ninja visits. We all knwo what happens with Bahamut After the Promathia story is over, Those ENM fights versus reveal the tale. Riverne is basically a new land explained in the Moblin Map quest. Moblins are looking to expand their territory. As far as the Ending of Promathia there are several endings, Just like the Endings with Fenrir, He has at least 3 by himself.
Also the Ziraat and Promathia storylines are closed with the Last mission versus Kam the Nut.
I for one think it'll be a great thing if theres a storylien reason for it. Like ballista
On Ramuh people are always doing ballista, Not seen as a chore by Many here. Trust me there are tons of Ballistars here.
Also I want that gray mama jools staff ..
