welcome to the forums. The answer to your first question is "no" you don't have to have a broadband connection to play FFXI. Yes they will make you pay monthly, about $10 a month
You also need to fix your signature
img in brackets, type the address to picture, close it like /img in brackets
I would do it, but it would show the picture

Well can answer one question. Yes you do have to pay for it, it's 10$ a month, and .75 cents for each additional character. The other two questions beats me I don't think FFXI requires a cable connection or anything (Thinking that's what I heard somewhere).

Hi and welcome,
You should poke around and look for most of the answers but here are the basics as is right now. ~^_^~
~If you play on the PS2, you will have to get a PS2 broadband adapter( or modem if PS2 has such a device >.<;; ), USB keyboard, and USB mouse, PS2 Hard Drive.
~Yes you will have to pay money, so far in japanese Yen it is aproximately $10 a month, plus 75cents a month, for Tetra Master and $1 a month per additional character in FF XI.
~Most of us are from the US and the other most of us are from different countries including China, Japan, Thailand, Canada, UK, and others.
~FFXI is not released anywhere but japan at this moment and the US release has been announced, but no OFFICIAL release date has been made. Any site that says otherwise, unless its Square's site, is just posting mis-information.
Ganbare~!!~

LOL, well actually thats cheep in the MMORPG realm. Most MMORPGs require $12 per month and give a 3 character limit with no chance of getting more unless you buy another copy and register it for another $12 a month. Not only that but any other services from POL are included like POL-mail, messaging, and future games. ^_^ I play SC too, but got tired of BNet and only play with people I know that wont drop when Im winning.

and, as everyone's said, $10 bux a month is absolutly nothing... you can get two or three times that in one day if you work at friggin mcdonalds :spin: so, i really dont think that $10 dollars is anything to whine about... and, starcraft is nothing like FFXI, except for the fact that you can play it online :spin: and, im sorry if you're turned off by the minimal amount of money you have to pay to play such a great game (FFXI)... i think you should read up on FFXI much more before you say that you wont be getting it...

Take from someone who has played both FFXI and Starcraft. Starcraft is crap. There is a reason there is no online fee to play it. There are always problems with Battle.net.

I don't mind paying a monthly fee for it, since this is the way of every MMORPGs out there, why would FFXI not charge a fee for its maintenance cost? (It's more than you think)
They need to pay their staff working on the game's updates and patches, developing it further, maintaining "peace", finding bugs, service for players (like online help), events in the game. And there's also fees associated with server hosting for the broadband they use (which is MASSIVE!) and the server's maintenance also...so 10$ a month is nothing believe me.

B.net is only messing up the D2 and other bull like WC3. SC is a good game for old school gamers. also you need strategey to play the game. but anyways i guess im just used to a no payment for playing a game.

people still play SC eh?
btw, 10 bucks is pretty cheap. All that is required is a keyboard (to type 'n stuff). Though you can save money (and have better graph's) if you buy the pc version. IF you have a good pc (minimum of 800 mghz, 256 mb RAM and a 64MB vid-card). Anyway, you could have figured that out by yourself just by looking around, but well, you're a noob so...:p
sig's work like this :
