cutscenes?

So... a Final Fantasy without cutscenes? Yeah right! How will they ever fill the CD? I could only imagine:

There are cutcenes in FFXI, you can count on that and they are on the CD.

if you mean FMV's, no.

The only FMV that I know of is the opening. The rest of the cutscenes look just like everything else using people that look the same as they normally do. Only difference is you get dialogue and the camera angles will change and the NPC's will move around and such, but that's about all.

I was kinda hoping for more FMV's every now and then. Because one of my favorite things when I started playing FF's were the FMV's. They weren't WHY I played, but they were like a little treat every now and then.

But they will probably put another FMV with the expansion or something.

k, remember the first FF? Good ol' 8-bit Nintendo and all? Yeah, that is my favorite Final Fantasy. It still is. In fact, I play it from tyme to tyme. I currently have a party of Fighter, 2 White Mages and a Black Mage. That game roq'd and still does. The sorcerers who kill you with a twist of a wrist and the excellent pixel art on every creature. The story line is simple but very intriguing. The music is cool, the boses are vicked, et cetera...

Every single Final Fantasy that came out thereafter dissapointed me. I am serious. Why? CUTSCENES! These days it seems that everyone wants cutscenes and all the big titles have them. I just got home from a friends house where we were playing Zone of The Enders 2. The videos reminded me of Metal Gear Solid 2 for another example, which resembled Final fantasy games... all due to the elaborate storyline that is not carried about by you, but by a video that interrupts play.

When I heard about FFXI Online from a friend, that is the first thing we started to talk about- maybe it will have more gameplay and less silly videos?

And this is why I want to buy this game. I am not even sure if I will be able to afford it for long at its rediculously high price, but I really like the look of it. It resembles the first in the sense that you can go where ever you want and do whatever you want at any time. As well, the fact that it is in the world of FF is an added bonus ( chocos *squee* ).

Actually Kelenae told me that there are cutscenes throughout the game, mostly involving NPCs who will move around and talk to you in text. It plays out kinda like a story. There is a video of a cutscene on this website in the downloads section. It is called "End of Mission 10" Go download that if you wanna see a cutscene of the game. It has Lion in it.

A cutscene is what I like to call a FMV, because that is what it is. A scene that cuts from the regular flow of the camera to an alternat view of a scene. I am not sure where FMV came from actually.

And yeah, I was not too happy with FF7. I mean, it was a cool story, and it kept me entertained when I was bored... but after two weeks I sold it.
