lol the economy on cait sith just went nuts! prices jumped through the roof all of a sudden. I wonder why that would be? it happaned right around christmas day. hmm... /slap gilbuyers

lol i'm not complaining, though. i sold my emperor's hairpin for 4 million gil. i bought it a few weeks ago for 1 million. i've decided to make use of this sudden, insane inflation that hit us outta nowhere and become filthy, stinking rich. Since everything has doubled in price, that means i get to sell it for twice as much XD. Or, at least, that's what i'll keep telling myself as they put the straight jacket on me. orz

i wonder if this happened on all the other servers too.

Lot of things jumped in price on Remora:
Vermillion Cloak NQ now 18-20 M
Hedgehog Bomb 8 M now 12 M
Scorpion Harness was 10m now 16 M
Elemental Staffs were 3-4 M now 8 M
Kraken Club (Not sure havn't checked but just heard) 300 M

There must be some exploit or something that's causing all this gil to be floating around. It seems too... suspicous.

My SH costed 17m. :P I tried hard to get it for 16. So they still going up.

Appearantly this happens on all servers. Can anyone tell the reason of this? Maybe it's because GS want more gil because people buy more during Xmas? Thats one of the explainations I heard. Anyone have a better clue? Or maybe is it because Gil Selling sites buy in gil for lower prices?

Yeah, Ramuh's prices just went haywire in December as well. I suspect it's due to Gilseller holiday prices.

So do you think the prices are going to go back down soon? If they are we should all sell our expensive items and buy them back later on when they're cheaper o.o lol

I started playing around new year last year, so I can't say for sure since I wasn't around for christmas, but I do remember that a lot of the better items that I wanted were on a downswing post-new year.

Anyone remember if this happened last christmas? I don't think it would be as drastic since gill buying has been on the upswing since then, but still it'd be nice to know.

They'll go back down some, usually takes a few months though.

Gil is selling at a very low special holiday price. I'm not too surprised at the effect. I think impatient and lazy people are throwing their (real) money at gil sites to get all the "cool" items and maybe a 100 craft too.

The later part of 2004 was when we first started noticing gil sellers, and the super-inflation that followed.

Actually wouldnt you think maybe since Christmas, people are more willing to get gear for their close friends...? >_> And some crafters are taking advantage of that..?

Fairy prices were already high, then they nearly tripled>< I sold my Chain mail set @ 20k to 35k a piece. I only put it up for 10-15k a piece. Owell, more money for me...Until i have to start buying lvl 40+ armor...../sigh. Im about ready to break down and buy some gil. Maybe if we can get gil buyers to spend there gil responsibly (<spelling?) then maybe prices would go down.

Why be responsible with something that took no effort to obtain? When getting gil is as easy as just using some of the extra money you have from the job you have to go to, why should you have any respect for it? When there's no effort spent in obtaining it, there's no respect in having it. I wouldnt necessarily put ALL blame on gilbuyers, after all someone has to be continually raising prices on the AH. However, I think if it were someone bidding on an item that spent many hours of many days earning their gil, they would be less likely to quickly bid an extra million or two for some item. Instead, since they were patient enough to legitmately earn their gil, then they could very easily be patient enough to wait for a cpl of that item to go up for sale and get it at the current cost or cheaper. I think showing the impatience of just buying your gil creates a likelihood of not waiting around for more items to appear on AH and just to pay the extra money.

I find it a huge flaw to call that its 0 effort to get gil if its bought. You WORK for money damnit, and i find it hard to believe that only rich people play this game. IF(IF) i bought gil, i would be even MORE increasingly careful, because i worked hard for my money. I am way more willing to spend if i farmed it because its a game and i am just progressing in the game so i get what i want. But knowing i spent more real money than necessary i will be increasingly careful. However it might be just me, i aint saying there are no irresponsible gilbuyers out there, but i doubt all of them is what you said. Whenever it comes to real money i get alot more careful in my choices.

Of course it also depends on the person and their job, but i am pretty sure some people that buy high-end gear, dont always have to care if its 1mil more or so especially with good crafting. While it might be true for some cases that it is gilbuying, it might not be as well for some others. I just find it flawed to say so easily about it. After all why be irresponsible with your real money unless you are an idiot(one can argue because they are already buying they are one, but i am not debating that >_>).

I would also disagree in people waiting these days...after all if you wait it only goes higher...i would bid asap...for example Errant body was 300K i think..then a week later i saw it for 500K...i was a little concerned so i bought it around there(a little higher...low on stock), it is now a freaking 900K item...and it might even go HIGHER...>_>

ok, yes gil buyers are a problem, but what is also a problem is the gil sellers.

However there is a really, really easy solution:

STOP BUYING THE GEAR YOU THINK IS OVER PRICED
after so many days they will be returned to the seller and they can either put it up for less or try again, and again if you think its to high dont buy it.

::puff puff::

This game has all kinds of gear, we are not suppose to all look alike. Now am i disputeing the absolute uberness of stuff like Hauby's, SH's, and other crafted (stuff that is quested like the Ohat ok that i can see not being *to* big an issue, i mean most of us by that lvl should have some people to help with quests like that) no, I will not argue the numbers or the math, what I will argue is that it is "nessasary". It has gotten to the point that people are like "I cant lvl ~insert job~ because i cant afford ~insert uber item~ even though i really enjoy playing said job" and this is just wrong. Yes the items are uber, yes I wouldnt mind getting a hold of them for the jobs that i lvl, but you know what, i dont have uber gear, I have been in a lot of pick up pts and in the 3 static pts i have I always ask if they are satisfied with my preformance, if they have a problem with it i try to adjust, but I am not going to spend x-days farming up to get an item that while uber is a luxury item.

I will likely get flamed for this, but you know what, I pay my $15 a month so i will play the way that I like, I will do my best but I am not going to do things i dont enjoy (i very much prefer questing and missions to xping, xping has been fun but can get repatative) just because of some preconcieved notion that you are a poor player if you dont have this gear or that gear.

By the by I have a lvl 56 clothcraft, i am woking on my leather craft, if you need gear let me know.

Farmers you really need to consider if what you are charging is appropriate, since all those high prices your charging translate into higher prices for the gear you are trying for. There is a lot of "blame" to go around, but how about we start posting some solutions that we as players can do?

Now in May 2006 its getting crazy in the other direction.

With the release of treasures some prices dropped. Wind crystals were 5k and now are 1-2k a stack. Spider webs were 30-60K and now are 10K. Beetle jaws were 80-90K/stack and now are 10K.

The price drop is good for crafters but not for farmers. The price of silent oil and prism powder has yet to drop to the same degree. Hopefully, the cost of crafted goods will go down as well.

Well, there aren't people out XP'ing on bees and slimes nearly as much as they're XP'ing on Puks (wind crystals) and spiders (webs).
