An LS is like a guild in WoW or RO. It's a group of people who play together, socialize or help each other out.

It's a Linkshell and you use them to communicate with each other. In order to get yourself on the same server as a friend or get a friend on your server you have to purchase a worldpass.

Sell the stuff you got from monster in AH ( auction house )
Stack up those stuff which you can stack it up.
Get to know people well and in return they may help you so be nice to anyone and everyone inside.

White mage is definitly the hardest of the starting jobs to go first off. However you get into parties a fair bit quicker than most of jobs. also it pays off in the long run.

I'd say for your first character pick one fo the melee's to start with as they are a bit easier to play and learn with... I've often heard that monk is by far teh easiest to start with but I've never played one so I can't really comment personaly.

Just remember that you can change your job at your mog house so if your not likeing your current job then go try out soemthing else.

Just learn that sometimes falling is the best way to learn. An never expected too much, that way you can never get disappointed as much.

A few small things to know. . .

1) Never beg

2) Learn to be cuteous to everyone, you'll meet a ton of assholes along the way, just remeber there are also nice people out there as well

3) The entire game is based off of friends, without friends you'll get nowhere in the game. It's a great thing to meet with new people, and keep contacting them often and not just for when you need help. Having a huge list of friends will allow you to progress through the game with as little difficult as possible. Try to get into a LS that fits you asap

4) Don't be afraid to ask question in the appropriate parts of this fourm dealing with certain jobs.

5) Realize the game takes alot of time and it isn't something you can just rush yourself past. So don't slave your life over the game

6) Last but not least, really enjoy the game.

:D i love hearing about excited newcomers.

some tips for the jobs you just described:

all melee jobs, so given that you will need to lvl your warrior sooner or later. warrior is a very flexible job. theif is very useful too as both a main job and sub job.

if you plan on being a thf main, you might want to consider having both, war and nin as sub jobs.

if you plan on being a ninja, you will be asked to tank 9.5 times out of 10. so you will need to have war subjob. any other sub would be mainly for fun or special purposes.

if you plan on being a sam, you might want to consider having both war and thf sub jobs.

hope you enjoy the game!

If you want to expereince FFXI, you'll probably be playing a little bit of every job.

While playing ANY jobs, please remeber
1) Have food (learn which type of food to use for certain type of jobs, you will know what you want from foods when you play certain jobs). You can find a great list of food at ffxi.somepage.com
2)Certain jobs will need to swap equipment to get the greatest advantage from certain things. You can find out which jobs need to swap equipment for what type of things in the job specified fourms
