okay ...Ive decided that since I am most likely going to make a lot of FFT character outfits (I havent tried editing faces or hair so ..outfits will have to do for now). This is where ill be putting all my outfits for FFT instead of one topic per character so that i dont flood the forums lol. just a rough draft of what Ill be making, i think its best to post what I have as early as possible just in case I missed a detail, or someone has a better reference picture... i mean cmon ...have you seen the picture I have to go off of? XD Ive only just done the body for now, and even thats not finished but ..
I'd like feedback ..should I stay as close as the picture as possible(no designs etc)? Or...should I add more stuff? the rest of the gear will come once I finish the body but heres an early look at it....yeah Im far from the best at this but
before i started making my own (skinning anyways) Even SOMETHING resembling FFT or other RPG stuff was things i looked forward to, so while its not the best ..it will be something I work on for the people like me who didnt know how to do this and wanted something to remind them of past games that were lost today so it will look a lot better given time but...right now its very late, and I work tomorrow/today so.. Ill leave you with a picture and the pics Im using as a reference and hopefully ill get a few suggestions from here :)
P.S. thanks to the person responsible for shadowslair website (not sure what forum if any that hes on, but has since retired from modding in FFXI) for the original shrine knight outfit, which although I didnt use helped me to realize that you CAN make cape type things
-----------------Updated 12-29-05-----------------------------------
Someone mentioned Izlude is not gold enough so ...I remade him with everything from all the previous versions and also added a more gold look.
Posted on the first thread, so noone would have to hunt around for it now ^^. I also left the old pics up just as a comparison.

Impressive :D I need to learn to edit models like that (to the point where they don't distort horribly -.-). Nice work ~
Though, it would be awsome to see a design on it. :D
Just a small suggestion from an artist. Lol... we don't like to leave things as they would originally be... just to spice things up.

Dude that freakin rocks. though as a suggestion, in the originalmodel, his leg/feet armor and arm/hand armor is gold, so if you play around with the colors i think you may have a slightly better alikeness, just a suggetion thouhg. God work.

Whooaa i like this armor!! Have you made sure the long mantle wont interfere with the knees and stuff? (That happened to some long skirt in FfxiDatcollection ><.. equipping no leg armor solved it though)
My appreciation for this. ^^
Does the back have the hood down? I'd like to see one with a hood. As I recall, most of the female shrine knights were hooded.
Also, I'm not too sure, but I think the belt part is actually a set of belt pouches. You could probably take the ones off of THF AF and put them over the belt.

yeah the rest of the gear seems kind of weird... i'd think modifying the rest of the paladin af to match the color scheme would look a bit better, other than that it looks very impressive. =)

Okay just got off of work and ...as everone pointed out ...the ONLY thing i changed was the body armor so far ... hey it was 1am and i had to work at 5 so ...Ill be working on the rest of the gear today ^^ I'm glad the public likes it so far ^^. Also as for the hooded one yes i will TRY to add a hood onto one but..Ive never tried to add a hood yet, as I can only skin so far ..If anyone knows how to do this, I can make the same exact colors for the hood and maybe someone can add that to make it a hooded version as well.
I Have not edited the belt or anything yet ..all i did was add the cape, and change the colors so far ... now that its not 1am Ill be looking to give this a major overhaul to look VERY close to the original hopefully... also as someone pointed out to maybe add a design to the armor....I'd like to make it as close to FFT as possible. if anyone has any flags from FFT or any Ivalice insignias or something similar I can add that to it (im fairly sure FFT was ivalice...its been a while and last tactics game i played was the GBA one so ..maybe it wasnt).. As Ive mentioned before FFT was one of my fave games and although the armor is simple the designs were some of my favorite designs in any FF to date, so I wont just be making him... there will be lots more once izlude is finished

Trim that tabard... it's too long imo.

it looks really good
dabadking
12-19-2005, 06:35 PM
tabard trimmed a bit, and gloves almost finished.. the whole thing should have been done by now but having an issue on the gloves showing either slightly redish or blotchy in a few spots..trying to find a happy medium lol. Also the gear looks more brownish now as looking closer at the reference, its brown not goldish. The shoulder pads are exact color match but... its hell getting the gloves to match the pads as the lighting is different for them as its lower on the model so it either looks too red, or yellowish ..pants and boots will be quick ^^ its the gloves that are giving me a prob for some reason...just a hiccup lol nothing big ^^
ok still not completely happy with a few colors..even though the boots look slightly off color of the rest of the gear ...I like it a lot ..I may change the gear to match the boots if I can ..Also still looking for designs for the cape piece, and have not worked on a hood yet but heres what I have so far.

The Tabard looks a little flat >.>
color wise? or look wise in general? if its because it doesnt move very fluid...thats a FFXI issue and I cant change that :( ..If its color, I can change that.

12-19-2005, 09:36 PM
Colorwise it looks a bit flat - maybe making it look like it's made from some sort of cloth might help
dabadking
12-19-2005, 09:39 PM
gotcha ^^, im on it. I just changed it to that color and figured the shading would make it look decent but.. guess theres no way around adding real cloth lol

"adding" cloth over itself and shading and bluring the edges to make it overlay with the main piece will achieve the effect you need, also wave it up a bit at the lower part to make it look like its actually cloth and not just a piece of over-ironed sheet =x

okay I was almost finished and you just had to mention adding effects as i was ready for bed  so... naturally I just couldnt go to bed and leave it as is...so..Heres the newest version with the cape shadows, etc.. Although i kind of think that now that I added shadows for the cape...the green on the body has too much of a rough look so...Ill fix that when I get home from work tomorrow ^^ but for now heres the newest one. Oh btw..I DID edit his hair this time ;) so let me know whatcha think on the hair as well ..kinda rough looking at that miniature pic to see his hair but ..this is what i believe it to look like.
EDIT: Okay lol just added a subtle blur to it to make it less rough looking, last picture is after the blur effect. Let me know which is prefered.
Also thanks balfree I took the lighting from the cape and added it into it so ..hopefully that will work ^^
Also a slight chance I will be making this char next :) ..maybe ..depends on If i can get a cape from that cloak lol
dabadking
12-20-2005, 12:21 AM
okay yes im really going to bed...i just spend about 5 minutes seeing if orlandu would be able to be made and...the results are actually better than my last ....the cape moves exactly as a real cape would :) heres two pics ...very very early and no actual changes just added a cape..alsso for now i think its best that the cape stay 3 seperate pieces to avoid clipping when moving etc ..
EDIT: Okay i wont be going to bed LOL, not tired actually...Ive Just updated my Orlandu and heres what I have so far.
I will be making the Orlandu cloak for hume female As a lot of the female chars in FFT wore the cloak versions, and Deo requested a female one with a hood so... I may do that very soon.
Will also make it for mithra as requested :)
LOL and taru .....Ill try to make for all races since it will probably get to that ....suggestions for color schemes are welcome as I dont really want to make them ALL brown but... thats the originals color so ..I guess maybe Ill just lighten the color and make it more tan looking. heres the WIP hume female one ..very WIP actually. ran out of pics to add so ..Ill post a pic in a sec

Very early WIp for hume female not sure IF i like the middle piece or not..Ill most likely change it to be less ....designed....the originals were plain but nice looking IMO.
EDIT: okay, I just made this white one Still only about 35-40% done but... I dunno what color scheme I should use or whether to keep messing with it then see what happens lol.
Also havent added the shadows for the cape yet or any small details as Im still looking for a main color ...i tried to look for femal shrine knights but didnt find any so...Ill just ave to make theirs custom I guess, but the basic look is there ...just not the color scheme
okay added one more color scheme to this before I go to work ...its not close to being done but... Its mainly just to get feedback on which color looks best. Also no, i havent taken the front piece off yet .. i was just looking at color schemes....

overwork myself? O.o mah XD ive been dying to make all this stuff for FFXi ever since it came out... I always add stuff to my shooter games and just within the last few months found you can do that to FFXI as well....mah dream come true XD Ive got so many things I want to make, the hardest thing is focusing on one untill its finished... speaking of which, If everyone agrees that the Izlude is finished enough to post, for hume males, then I will. To me it seems about 95% done... Just slight coloring probs ..also If someone ever makes a custom model and adds the PLD chainmail neckpiece and shoulderpads to a tunic model Ill be in heaven and will most likely remake a lot of my shrine knight models as the cloak/tunic pieces for the cape flow a LOT smoother than the chainmail type ones :( ...Just wish I could use VRS ... I cant even add things to a model ; ;..heck I cant even see the model and the wire frame in the same picture.....completely lost in VRS ; ; If anyone knows anything about VRS and would be willing to volunteer and model a few things.... Id actually be pushing out outifts in mass production XD ....Speaking of which ....the reason Id like the PLD shoulders and neckpiece added to the cloak is.....I'd VERY much like to make a deathknight and I would add huge horns onto the DRk helm, and would make it look crazy lol....
P.S someone mentioned they couldnt get the female version of the lancer to look right.... I believe that may be my next project ...We shall see...Also if all goes well I should be making a sercret christmas present for the .dat community... The hint is...hes a villain...squareSOFT made the game hes from ...it was on SNES and it was one of the biggest games to hit the SNES and is considered to be by many ..one of the greatest RPGs of all time...oh and its not a final gantasy :P (I think i gave too much away lol ...oh well, we will see how it goes)
BTW... finishing up on my hume female version of shrine knight hopefully be done shortly
EDIT: shortly as in ...done  posting pics first then Ill post hume male and female versions for it in next post

sorry last one ...I hate double posting but ... had one more file to add.
EDIT: If anyone can make a drk body armor with the paladin neckpiece (chainmail wrap around the neck) and add the cloak bottom pieces (the flaps on the back, sides, and front I'd be eternally greatfull.....Id like to start on my deathknight...not sure which, if any FF he was in... I think still tactics (galfgarion or whomever). Ive decided I cant make the deathknight without that body armor unfortunately....but I did start on his helmet.. its a very early WIP but.. heres what I have started so far I didnt change any colors, or add anything except the horns and spikes...its got a LONG way to go. If anyone can do that Id appreciate it very much....Also what do you think of the helm so far? Good? Bad?

okay well...turns out I cant find any good designs for a few items so ..Ill just hand draw a few.. Im not a good artist at all but ....one thing people DO say I am good at ...id designs so...dunno why i didnt realize I could add my artwork onto my PC years ago XD. Ive been just drawing and tossing them to pass time ..now I should have saved them ...heres a quick 5 minute piece ive thrown together for a glove or boot...not sure yet. If it looks blurry its because i had to change the background to post it because it was just on a scrap piece of paper...will look clear on the models though ^^
EDIT: Okay heres the design i just threw together and added to a model to show what I mean.. no im not using that lame design, I threw that together in less than 5 minutes on my break at work, and just threw it on a random model which happened to have my new helmet being made...which is good that I did because now I can change my designs to work WITH the stretch effect that the cape gives. anyways just throwing this on here to show that I will be adding my own :) hope it looks decent at least

I couldnt tell what part of the mask was what in the bmp file so... ok, dunno what happened but... I posted this and after i attached pics it sent me back to the main page and i didnt get to save my first post so ..a quick description ..someone tried to make a lancer helm on this forum and it didnt work out ..he didnt say why...so...I figured id make one ..I dont have a good pic of one so I cant see much of a difference but ...heres what I saw. Also as this only took about 5 minutes I didnt change the color, or the looks too much ..Just made it look like a lancer helm from FFTA..if someone would like it, and has a better reference pic...I may fix it up and release it.

Nice Dragoon. Hmmm...if you colored the hume female shrine night green...wouldn't that be Melidoul(sp?)? Shellbust Stab! Icewolf Bite! Man...I miss those moves.
dabadking
12-21-2005, 10:36 PM
yes it would look very close to melidoul, however...as most of the shrine knights use the same clothing basically... I dont want to flood the forum with simple recolorings of the same gear so..unless requested, I doubt Ill make them public..however since I personally want to have most of the chars available to me..When I have time Ill most likely make it So that I have it in my personal collection ^^
-----------------------------------------EDIT: ----------------------------------------------------
okay just finished this ..I made it from the drg AF helm as shown above..I blended the armor piece on top into the base of the helm so it looks like he has a ninja mask on but a hood covering him instead of just a solid ninja mask, as to me ..that would look a bit plain. I havent added any colors or designs to it or ANYTHING...Just a model basically Also the little bumps on the sides of the front view pic...that is to make it look like he has a hood on...it looks like it to me anyways lol...if noone thinks it gives it a hood look, I will blend it into the mask again.
Also anyone that wants these items ported to other races...please...anyone who knows how to port them, please do...I can but ...I always get wrapped up in them and decide to make them all different and..it takes a lot of time from designs and outfits I could be making. If anyone would like to volunteer they will get all the models I am making, and have made before they are released (obviously lol) If I didnt have to port to other races I could make maybe 3 to 4 in my spare time given nothing gets complicated lol
Also in the case of these models where they have been changed a bit (this and the lancer helm, as well as the drk helm) they cannot just simply be copied onto the bmp of the other race so... While I can and MAY port them ...it will not be an exact copy of the first one as I have to shape each piece indiviually and ..of course it wont ever be exact when you do that by hand

Hi, I think you know who this is :P. I rarely respond on boards nowadays. If you want feedback, I will give it. May have already been said, but I don't care :P.
As for staying as close to the picture and adding designs and whatnot, here is my advice. When I did this project, my goal was a exact replica of Shrine Knight gear from FFT. This means I don't add any new designs or even a better visual upgrade to it. It would look exactly like that FFT character no matter how bland it looks.
Now if you saw the shots I did long ago, you'd probably say that wasn't in FFT. This is because back then, I never really did get a good working gold color to work so I did my own thing ;P. Thing with that was that I wanted to have a SK look too so I made it kinda like FFT and at the end, I did my own designs.
So keep with the original. That is your goal. If you make it into something else, it really isn't FFT, just the model resembles that Shrine Knight look.
I'm just wondering, what are you planning to use for the gloves, legs, and boots? I'm curious because if you're planning on using that bone gear, I don't think thats going to look so good :P.
Hmm, I think you need the "gold" look on the shoulder plates. It doesn't look quite "gold" does it ;P? Then it would be Izlude. Right now, that shade of color on the shoulder plates isn't that good imo.
Other than that, nothing needs to be changed. This is because it does indeed look like (the body that is) like Izlude from FFT. You got it perfect. The main issue now should be the other body parts.
I think I saw something about a cape in a post. I created a cape long ago for this, but it didn't work out so well and I dumped that just because Shrine Knight don't really wear capes.
Anyways, glad someone is doing something that I planned to do long ago, but never did due to my schedule.

^^ next one Im making really quick is Knight from FFT (while I do have some requests to do first ....I cant do them yet because I havent gotten my monitor back) But I can do the knight one since I basically got the stuff ready for it. while im looking very closely at the gear for knight .... Im hoping to not just change my Izlude to look like knight ...I know he looks close to a normal knight minus a few pieces... Im trying to keep every piece as original as I can with no lazy recolorings.......unless specifically requested.
I was GOING to make templar but... seeing as that will put me through hell...Ive postponed that untill I get my monitor working again as well.

TY TY :), Hey by the way. I am currently TRYING to figure out how to take a piece and move the whole piece to another spot Using VRS ....anyone know how I can do this? If anyone can help me out, I can actually make a REAL cape that actually goes around the neck like the chars in FFT. Ive even made the cape itself and it fits perfectly ..unfortunately because its still attatched to the hip ..any animation makes it look like crap ; ;. If I can get this to work, I will have my knight outfit from FFT finished today, and will also be updating all my chars with capes to use this free flowing style cape.
----------------EDIT--------------
These pics show the problems Im having ... 3 of them show the cape itself and that it is actually a good looking cape model....however the last pic, shows that It is horrible when its in motion. Thats why I need to move the points to just under the tip of the shoulderblades area where the cape is at now.
P.S. ignore the side flaps ..they will be alpha'd out, I just havent yet as If I cant get this to work first then theres no reason to even make the rest of it for this gear. I will just have to make a version 1 with a decent cape I suppose first. Unless someone wouldn't mind helping me out a little.

Since I dont know how to detatch that cape and reattatch it at the shoulders..Ive made another style ...it looks CLOSE to the one posted above but...animates fairly well. The only thing about this one is it gives an ILLUSION of a real cape and ..it acts like a real cape so ..this may have to work..still in beta form so, I havent added all the textures and polished the look yet. Untill I get the cape posted above working...this will be the cape for my Knight from Final fantasy tactics. heres a very early look at what it will look like (just the model....havent changed any colors yet or anything else).
Also posted the reference pic as a comparison.

Mm...it was a nice attempt but it just doesn't fit...looks like a super level 7 noob XD Ok, seriously, it just doesn't match, you know? Then again the FFT version is very complex. You may have to do some photoshoping to be honest, because you'll have a hard time matching THAT armor.

I think the knight is turning out really nice, can't wait to see what the finished product looks like. I do have a suggesstion for the face, IMO you should model it closely to that of Elvaan face 3b, just tweak it some to fit your specifications.

give it an elvaan face? I admit the face wasnt going to be in the finished product and I was going to make the head model to look more like the pic but.....why elvaan? I dont recall FFT even having the elvaan race..Any specific reason for this that I may be mssing?
Kaylik
12-31-2005, 09:36 AM
when i said model it, i didnt mean give it an elvaan face, i believe i also said to tweak it to you specifications. I merely sugested that face as an idea or something to base the hume face off of it because it has those to things of hair coming out.

OMG. Those are great mods dabadking!
Could you pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease make a hooded black cloak, like a hood and a cape with rips in it, kind of like the one Guts wears from the anime Berserk.
That would rock, and be great for Dark Knights!
dabadking
01-08-2006, 04:43 PM
Rips would be very very easy to make...same with the black look of the Cape ..A solid black cape would be kinda plain ...and I dunno anything about berserk but... If i was to make a black cloak, without looking at any references most likely it would look very close to a Black V cloak, since to me black and gold would look good together...however since the rips would look wierd on a classy looking cloak ..I would Just Darken the regular lvl 7? cloak (Or edit my Orlandu Cloak and make it Black and alpha Rips into the cape piece).
I have been fairly busy lately with Projects and other things so ....while i MAY do this if you really want one...I'd rather not ...If you know a fair bit about modding, or even skinning, I can help you to make it ...but like I said .if you really want one ..let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Based around no one in particular, could you make a model for the mage classes that is full body cloak, hood and all, but either down or up really doesnt matter. The game is full of 'capes and cloaks' but they all cut off around the waist, would be nice to see some actual wizardry garb, full length robes. You know you waaaanna :-D
Editing this slightly - I looked back and felt like slapping myself, but then I sorta thought about it. Alot of the Shrine Knights do the full length mantles, front and back, and that's pretty much what I'm talking about. Except that the bottom of the cloak would fan out a bit wider around the legs (i dont expect movement of the cloak to match actual movement of the person, that to me would be really complex and difficult to ask)
Btw, nooblet question.heh..how do I switch out the .dat files from the zip file of the shrine knights to copy over my .dat files from the game? not real sure which files to overlap :-S

ok, first off...I am confused at your question so .... your saying that you FOUND a cloak that you were looking for? or still want one made?
As for switching the .dats just open the viewer and find the armor you are looking for and get the .dat number... then extract the .zip file to a folder (any folder but usually NOT a FFXI folder) then change the names of the ones you extracted to match the .dat file you want it to replace and it should work fine ...Just make sure you dont overwrite the old one ... add an A to that file or something at least. (Also wise to back-up your WHOLE ROM file just in case). if this doesnt help much, theres tons of info about this everywhere, and its posted everywhere, it goes into a LOT more detail than what I went into. Your best bet would be to read those tutorials, thats how I learned.
As for shrine knight to copy over to the piece for "Shrine knight body" look for the body piece u want to change it with and find the number for that gear in the model viewer... then name it the same instead of shrine knight body.

Debaking, I know nothing moding .dats, and I'm not too computer savvy, so I would be wasting my time trying, but I've seen your work and it is awesome, so I know you could do this for me, it would totally rock man.
I can give you this site as a reference to what I want the cape to look like, but with a hood.
Puleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!

No no, I mean the cloaks for shrine knights resembles what I'm talking about, but no breaks for armor, just total cloth cover over everything, one full material.
So basically, you're after what he's already done, except with the entire front part covered.

First to IamNate:
Just full cloth? that would just be a re-skin of a shrine knight outfit like orlandus wouldnt it? Just drop the colored pieces and make it the same color of the cloak and make it black? If not, maybe I am not grasping this .. do you have a picture I can reference?
Also as for hexnefex question
... I could try to make it but..unless you know VRS (Which I dont) the cape wont look like that ....not completely. It wont wrap around his neck at least .. I DO have two prototypes of a wrap around cape but...one animates horribly and ..the other only LOOKS like it wraps around, however it does animate decent enough, its still not up to my standards so ..I didnt take them any further than prototype stages.
you can see both capes on my knight of FFT pics.
Also in case anyone thinks I am burning out on .dat modding ...im not even close to burned out :P however.......Quite a few things have popped up recently with my step-dad in the hospital yet again, and me building prototypes for 2 things I am in the process of getting patents for, work, other peoples B-days and ....trying to ignore that horrid day they call Valentines day that I am constantly reminded of getting closer and closer blah .....friggen V-day lol...aaaanyways ....because of all of those things I wont be on as much as I normally am, but ..I will be checking back about once a day

Ya, the green caped Shrine Knight looks nice, around the neck, so I was wondering maybe you could do that with say the DRK artifact chestpiece somehow, if you look on the pic, Gatsu's armor chestpiece points out on the shoulders, but the DRK piece curves a bit up, it doesn't have to be perfect, but if you could edit it to look like that chestpiece, it would rock.
Also, like on the shrine knights, the green one, cape, just eliminate the front one that goes through the belt and down the front of the legs, and keep the back, I know its a bit narrow, but I could care less, just do a good job not making it look flat, you know.
If you don't wan't it to be hooded, cool. It doesn't make a difference to me, like on the picture.
I hope you can start this project, I've requested it a few times, and no one seems to tackle it.
Double Post Edited:
Also, if you can't do it with the DRK AF chestpiece, just mod the PLD to look like it.
If you can do the whole suit, even better, but I don't wan't to ask for too much. :)

I actually have a question about cloth in FFXI, it seems that anything long in length doesnt actually move, and basically acts like sheet metal instead of sheets. =p Is there any kind of physics in this game that allows for a sort of 'ragdoll' effect, or making collisions so it doenst clip through the model.

Just thought I'd say that obviously you have put A LOT of work into these...they look great! Another thing...also...the female shrine knight outfit...do you think it would be possible for mithra...(don't worry about it if it'll take too much time) just wondering...

You're going to release that cape for mithras, aren't you? Aren't you?!

of course it is possible, and actually would only take about 10 minutes to throw together... I'll have to put it together when I get home today...if I have time today, if not...tomorrow :)

No rush. Due to circumstances that are beyond my control, I can no longer play FFXI for an unknown amount of time. I'd still love to see a working cape model for mithras, however (as well as other races. This game really needs more capes).
