I haven't played in a while and Chains of Promathia wasn't available when I played. Do I need to buy/install it before I can play? Or can I load up my old FFXI+RotZ?

You can play w/o it, but certain areas will not be available to you. i.e. Promyvions, Movalpolos's, Tavanzia and such.

most areas you won't be using much. But it's worth getting the expansion and get started on it's mission imo. The story is simply awesome.

Actually, the new expansion is why I wanna play again. Maybe it'll come with Cop... Or maybe not.

You can buy the vana'diel collection dvd. I think its only like 20 or 30 bucks and has the whole game plus both current expansions. I doubt the next expansion will include CoP since CoP didn't include RoZ.
