I know that the whole procedure for a few things are in the set up guide, but im wondering if there is somethings that are not in there. Like i heard something about needing the utility disc for the HDD. I have the disc, but is that needed to format the drive? or does the BB navigator do that? plus, there isnt a BB navigator installation guide in the set up install area of this site either, so im wondering what is the procedure for that, and how well does it work? I am really curious about all this, cause I am going to be trying a HDD unit we were able to fix, and i wanna make sure nothing goes wrong.

bump, please help, this is really important...we got the hdd unit getting power, and stuff, but we are not familar with the procedure for installing it to the ps2.

We dont have the actual hard drive yet that comes inside the hdd unit, the person who sent it to me, removed it, but i am going to get it soon in the mail, but in the meantime, we are testing out other hard drives we have, and havent been getting good results even though the hdd unit is powering up. it still acts as it did before the unit worked when we connected it. We need to know if there is any procedure that has to be done. Is there something that has to be done with the utility disc? and if so, where?! the whole disc just seems like an instruction manual for the ps2, but since i cant read it, kinda screwed. we've been working hard on this unit for many hours, the least someone nice can do is try and help me out with the translation issues we're having.

Search the web for HDD instalation guides. You need to format the HDD with the PS2 CD.

There are English guides with full translations and pictures.

I've tried that, no sites come up when i do a search for that stuff, only sites that say things like "hdd compatable games" blah blah blah...stuff that is not relavent to what i'm doing, or i get stuff about pcs, and so on. If i do a more direct search, like "hdd installation guide" it comes up with pc stuff, and if i add ps2 ,or playstation it comes up with no results. I'm desperate. And when you say PS2 disc, you gotta be talking about the utility disc that i already mentioned, cause there is no other disc

Do you even have the install CD? The CD should work wether you have a working HDD or not.

Hi, I dont know if you still care at all but fwiw.

I play my FFXI game on my Japanese PS2, and I bought the HD and ethernet adaptor and everything straight from Japan. When I installed it, if I remember correctly, all I did was attach the HD unit to the ethernet adaptor and slide it into the slot located on the back of the PS2. I think the reason that you`re not able to do anything is if you stick in another harddrive it will not work because its not using whatever special disk format system that the PS2 uses as opposed to the FAT(32), ext2, ext3, reisferfs, etc. filesystems for computers. So if you dont have the original harddrive, I think you might be up the creek until you can get it. As far as I know there isnt any utility to format the drive to run with a PS2.
