I was reading posts earlier and i saw a profile wiht bounding boots and i think, wow, they changed the name for Leaping Boots, but ALAS, its a rare/ex item.
Two questions:
1. What other godly NMs have had this happen to them ( heard some talk of VE dropping a rare/ex hairpin )
2. Do the still drop the old items, or are the old items just a boast-badge now?
The old items are very expensive. In fact, those items are about 2 to 3 times the price of the highest before the patch.
2005.07.18 In addition, players may receive an EX/Rare or EX item with the same
attributes from the monsters who previously dropped each of the above items.
South Gustaberg (Leaping Lizzy)
Valkurm Dunes (Valkurm Emperor)
Ordelle's Caves (Stroper Chyme)
Maze of Shakhrami (Argus)
The only good thing about these old items (Which are now dropped from BCs) are that you can trade them or mule them.

I don't see why? Doesn't this make the ones farming it for gil go away and the ones farming it because they are going to use it get more of a chance without spending a lot of gil?

Who actually camped for the regular rings was my question? What good is an EX ring thats craftable, but only if you have leathercraft lvl'd high enough. Again, just made sniper's shoot through the roof.

Again, just made sniper's shoot through the roof. But does the crafted ring have the EX value, or did that just make it a lot easier on leathercrafters? ( snipers were usually less than the other rings that it requires to make them)

I dont think so, I havent checked but sniper's have continued to shoot up a lot since the patch. If the crafted ex rings made normal rings, then you would have more ways to get snipers and they wouldnt cost so damn much.
Yeah, them doing this didn't help the economies at all. I think they should have changed the drop rate. Every now and again just flood the market with these items and watch the price plummet. Or find a way to remove some of the gil on the server. I mean there are people in my Ls who have spent 15 mil in under a week. I've never had more than 950k on me at once.

Taking money out of the game is your best bet, but its a very long process and has to be done right. I.E. raise prices a little for chocos, and other npc only offered services. They did a good thing with the two subligars in tavnazia that can be de-synthed for shining cloth and whatever. I think the subligars cost like 8million apiece, but desynth to nearly twice that. A few more alternate crafting options like that would help to remove a lot of gil, and yes, this is getting way off topic. ;)
Does anyone actually know for sure if the Ex rings can be synthed to Ex snipers?
First of all, the change was only made because many people were whining about the gil sellers camping those four monsters (actually, I'm still not sure as to why Monster Signa and Mary's Horn was not made rare/ex as well)
However, let me ask the community a simple question.
If there were no gil sellers camping Stroper Chymes, can you honestly say that there would've been adequate supply of archer's rings to provide the crafting community with in order to SKILL UP on sniper's rings? Remember, those gil sellers worked in teams with those same characters, constantly camping and bringing those archer's rings to the AH 24/7 For the high level leathercrafters, it was like getting their supplies from an NPC or crafting guild and very much so at that steady price.
Before the change to the drop, Sniper's were sold at a solid 390 to 400K in AH on Hades. It never changed or deviated from that price. You could farm for a whole month and the next month it was at that price. For 6-7 SOLID MONTHS with no change.
Things started to get screwy once the second worldshift to Hades occurred and then when the patch went to effect, prices just spiraled out of control. Now Sniper's are almost a million if not more (I don't bother to check them since I already own a pair) and continually going up.
You could camp Stropers but you're getting a rare/ex ring that you can only wear on one slot. You could do the COP quest and get the Venerer's ring, but that is a Rare and can only be worn in one slot too.
So, did this help to make Sniper's affordable for players? No. I seriously believe this made things worse, not better, for the server.
I prefer the non-EX version myself just because they can be stored on mule. Changing the drop rate alone isn't good enough, they should also add them to storage NPC and we'll have a deal.
I think the EX drop did fix the monopoly and bot camping problem. Just not the economy.
