Newbie needs help wit name/job

i just got the game after toooooooo long and i wish that i got it a long time ago but i just started playing and i cant use all the names i used to use and im still a little confused on differences of the jobs like red mage and white/black

generally, jobs break down into different roles. Some basic roles are
tank - paladin ninja warrior
damage - most melee jobs, blackmage
heal - whitemage redmage
support - redmage bard summoner

red mage is more of a support mage that can do everything. If you want more details check out the redmage forum.

ty all i really need help with now is the whole name thing i think that my biggest problem is not ever being able to come up with those crazy nicknames i usually use real names i would just like to know how to come up with those names just a little hlp

Don't know how to help with names. Anything you like, your inspiration, your pet, etc.
I name myself Jaza and I had no reason whatsoever.

Ehh, i would reccomend a to get a book that you read, and maybe look for a neat name. Or maybe a religious figure. My first FFXI character was nammed TheRabbi ( no capital R tho.) My current character is named Thanatos, the greek incarnation of death. (Thanks to Piers Anthony and the booke "Riding a Pale Horse" i think that was the name)

/agree Mythology and other literature are your best bets for a good sounding not overused name. But please, for the love of God, dont make your name a variation of Cloud, Sephiroth, Zidane, or any other previous final fantasy character. The biggest problem with these is that they all start to look the same and people wont remember how your variation was spelled.
"Hmm, I really want to put that guy on my friendlist, but was his name Cloudxxxxx or Cloudxxxxxx?"

hmm~ or you could just make a random name :D; or on manga or something~ ._." names are hard to make up @.@;
i made mine on just combining 2 japanese syllables >.> ri + ka = rika :3

I think the name would partially depend on what race you choose. If you're a taru, roleplay a little and choose a name so cute that it will make people sick. If you choose a galka, choose something fierce. I personally chose Vysey as my name, because I'm a taru.

I dunno in all seriousness just name him something you prefer, whether it be cheetos or i ono..Raisenbran..you just gotta like it. I mean my name isnt that great..Lionx...but i dont have much of a trouble with it o.o I think the only names that i have a little trouble with are as stated...those that have reference to other FF names because its hard to remember which one you are. No offense to those that use it of course, but it IS confusing. So anything that is easy to remember would be nice too.

I recommend WAR WHM or BLM when you start, because i know that some people like to change their minds after, but when you start with these you at least lvled some of the most commonly subbed jobs. It will save you trouble ^^

I took my name straight out of Hexen.
All the good FF names were already in use.
My other char is a little Taru blm named Duke Nukem.

Names can be hard sometimes, I like to be diffrent.....and I spent about 4 hours thinking of a name :p Then I finaly came up with Kailea heh

lol, try coming up with oobilytoob :P. i remember coming up with it back in the good old days of school [recently graduated, YAY] and it was the name gave to a lil drawing of a monster, i though HEY it IS original, so i guess no one'll ever use it, :D
