View Full Version : Finally... I've acquired FFXI after 3 Years of waiting

Well, I've been lurking on these forums since it's inception. I remember the day I read about Final Fantasy XI and Everquest Online adventures - sometime during late 2001 - and I vividly remember being amazed, mainly because I've been an anvid Final Fantasy FanBoy since FF7. Since then, I've waited and held off on purchasing FFXI, mainly because I couldn't imagine joining an already established community - I could just imagine the eastern players running around, calling me a n00b, lol. So, I contiued to play Everquest Online Adventures, and then eventually picked up EQ2 and World Of Warcraft thereafter. These game were satisfying... but at times, I feel as if these titles lacked something - originality, I suppose, I don't know.

So, here I am - with the FFXI installtion completed ( and the ungodly update process... 4 hours! lol, maybe I should've installed those expansions?) I'm ready to jump into the world of Vana'diel for the first time in three years of seeing my first FFXI screenshot on these forums and at rpgfan.com.

Hope to meet some of you... Oh, does starving artist still post here? Man, I remember those awesome screenshots she used to post - those screenshots were the cause of many, many, many long nights in front my computer monitor.

I know how it feels man, I always have been an avid fan of the FF series. I have played the games since FF7 came out for the PSX (hardest game i have ever played.) When i heard they were comeing out with a game for the computer i was at first dissapointeed A. because i was still using a p1 system 2 months before release, and B it had a monthly fee. I eventually conned my parents into buying me FFXI on the basis that i would play the monthly fee, and although i did quit for a long time, the community has welcomed me back. (I played WoW for a full year and cancelled last week due to recent class nerfs.) This game has a special place in my heart, and i highly doubt i will drop it as easily as last time.

Not to put a damper on your parade, but I have to warn you that the economy in FFXI is nothing like WOW. If you liked how it was on WOW, then you're going to be in for a suprise. On the other hand, if you're a resourceful type of player and have infinite patience as well as tons of time to play, then you might be able to weather it all.

Well, welcome and enjoy the game.

I landed on Kujuta :)

So far, I like the server - I've already joined a LS and made a few associates.

....Final Fantasy XI owns my soul, as of current. The past few hours I've spent in game have been nothing short of amazing. Albeit, I was a bit perplexed at the default controls, but I soon figured how to customize my keys, so all is well. I'll be using an xbox usb gamepad to play, however.

What really shocks me about FFXI is how smooth it plays, it's just soo gorgeous.

...well, I really want to type more and post some of my first screenshots, however, my body shutting down without my direct consent, so in order to avoid crashing face first into my monitor, I'd better get some rest for my next FFXI gaming session.
/sigh... it was so hard loging off... /cry /tear /sob

mathias22, it's been a year since i verified my account on this board, but all i can recomend is that you put the information in exactly as you see, cause I got the email instantly. If you wait for even more than 30 minutes, there was a mistype in the information. Just write it down, dobule check, and then try putting the info in, ok?

And welcome to Vana'diel, Plat. I think that SE did a great job with the environments, and it's a rich game overall.

Well, I've been an anvid Final Fantasy FanBoy since FF7. Since then, I've waited and held off on purchasing FFXI, mainly because I couldn't imagine joining an already established community - Congradulations!

If you are such a big fan of FF, what took you so long. I bought this game has soon as it was out in NA. I didn't wait for anyone to tell me anything. I already had 2-motivations. It was SE (one of the best rpg creators of all time) and it was FF (one of the best rpg series of all time). What else need be said!

Anyhoo... Welcome to Vana' diel! From here, it only gets better. Enjoy!

Hello Plat, welcome to the game and to the site. I wish you the best in you adventures. If I may ask, what server did you play EQOA and EQ2 on?

In saying that about waiting a long time, where I live in the Uk we only got broadband into our area in August 2005 and after a few months of problems I finally went online in October and first thing I did? Well bought FFXI of course, being a veteran on the nes, snes, PSone and 2, this next installment was painfull to wait for (so is FFXII !! summer next year possible release in the Uk is the latest info!) But I am glad I have it so if you see me on the Garuda server say Hi to Jarre (hume) in SanDoria and Brickshouse (galka) in Bastok.

You'll love Kujata, It's a one of the better servers on FFXI for several reasons.

If you see Izayaki running around somewhere, don't be a stranger! ^^b

Hello Plat, welcome to the game and to the site. I wish you the best in you adventures. If I may ask, what server did you play EQOA and EQ2 on?

Ah yes, on EQOA:
Castle Light Wolf(CLW)
Bedrock 43 Warrior

ProudPine Outpost(PPO)
Skylar 29 Paladin - she was the first toon EVER, across all servers, to win a GM event.

Keliner 44 Cleric - When PPO was announced, I quickly jumped off CLW and created a cleric on this server, it was lovely because I always had a group. No sitting around in DM or HP yelling "LFG plz!"

Oh, and Everquest 2!

Well Hello again Plat, thank you for sharing that information with me. I as well played on PPO, I had/have a 60 Mage Iskyl and a 60 Rng named Lskyl. I also have a 50 Wiz on FH named Hikaru. I too played EQ2; Astald, Erebus, Avicus all on Unrest.

Again, I hope you enjoy FFXI and I wish you the best in your adventures.

Actually, the Australian version of FFXI has the original game and both the expansions. It's on cd's and not a DVD, but it's the exact same thing, really. x.x;

The Uk version has both expansion packs and is on 6 CD's!! amazon.co.uk are selling them off now at just under £10 (typical I bought mine at PC world for £25 just so i could play it straight away!!

I have a 2MB broadband link running at about 212kbs average. It took 1 hour to download all the updates (11000 files!!!) and according to my DMU meter it was about 270-320mb (from what i can remember) this was only 2 months ago (so still fresh in my memory) so it gives you a good idea, so work out how long it takes to download that amount and then set it going before your dinner, eat, have a shower and hey presto should be done by then!! (well worked for me!!) Don't foget that it onlky took 40 minutes to download and the other 20 to sort the files out and update the program.

Yes, Australia gets the same version games as Europe, usualy. We got that same one, I think the box even says "European Version" on it.

I did see that, but one other thing was it didnt have a buddy pass, and the cds would have been a WHOLE lot easier. Yet i reall wanted to get m friend away from sucking on WoW sour teet and onto good ol Final Fantasy :) ...... even if it did cost me 40 extra bucks.. -.-
