Error code: FFXI-2003 Failed to read data.

I tried to install FFXI on a new computer the other night and something interesting and annoying came up.

So after I finish creating my character and tried to go into the beginning movie scene when you first make your character this error pops up.

Error code: FFXI-2003 Failed to read data.

I searched this forum but thats a thread from 2003 (year)...

Anyone know how to fix this...

So far the following is information pertaining to this:
- Not sure if AntiVirus was on
- Used Azrial Windower
- Installed on a ISO image of the new DVD version of FFXI (comes with Zilart + Promathia) and installation went fine

When trying to back on the character it crashes at the same point everytime.

I would've tried more options but I'm pretty burnt out right now, just wanted to see if there is a fool proof soloution to this.

So far the following is information pertaining to this:

This is the most important one. You MUST disable any antivirus software, disable their ability to load with Windows and then reboot the computer in order to have the effect be made to the system itself. Then, install FFXI and then you may re-enable your AV software.

This does not cause issues with a new game installation.

- Installed on a ISO image of the new DVD version of FFXI (comes with Zilart + Promathia) and installation went fine

This is another important one. Please try to obtain a legitimate copy of the game, okay? Don't use pirated software. If you already own game discs, use those instead and go through the long process. There is encryption and security within those discs and I'm not surprised that you got the error that was displayed.

try the "file check" as some files might be corrupt.

until u get the game to working, turn it off. use of Windower violates eula, and at any time s-e could make the game unfunctional when it or any other known 3rd party softwares r used.

personally, i don't see any problems. Plenum obvisouly has a legal copy of the game w/ RDM 60, and all he was trying was to install the game to his new pc to play the game on it. and in an effort to save some time installing it, he used the ISO image of the "all-in-one," rather than having to switch the disks.

while how he obtained it remains questionable, if it was from a family member or close friend (although this limitation changes from country to country due to the difference in the copyright laws), there's no legal problem as he already has a legal right to use the software. remember, in most cases buying a software means buying a right to use it, NOT the medium it's provided on. (technically, even if he got it off the net, something like P2P, it's still considered legal in some countries, as he owns the legal right to it. it all depends on which country he's in, so we r not in position to determine whether it was legal or not.)

wrong. there isn't any copy protection feature embeded w/ disks of the PC version of ffxi. not to mention why bother paying extra royalties for copy protections if nobody can register to use it without the legitimate registration codes?

besides, if the image was obtained from the net, files could be corrupt due to the bad ripping.
