Hey, I realize there is no armor guide for BST. I'm unsure of what to equip in categories of charming and meleeing. Do we just pump up str and acc?

My roomate always had two sets of equips. The one he macro'd in for charming had all his +CHR and +charming on it. After a mob was charmed he switched to his melee setup. For the most part it was just all out str and acc build, unless you want to boost your mp.

I do the same (pretty much most BSTs as well).

Will I need to buy or get anything expensive? Like a haubergeon?

I wouldn't say a Haubergeon is needed but it sure is nice as a piece of melee gear. Keep in mind Haubergeon and other armors like it decrease some defensive stats significantly. That being said, Haubergeon is great for melee, but not if you're taking hits.

you don't really benefit much from hauby imo. My friends are loving the crow set btw, with the minus enmity they can melee along side their pet right at the start without drawing any aggro.

your mainly fighting evan match > tough mobs. so you really dont needs the stats of the haub. as for th eorginal posters comments. beast gear is based on a players play style an char. some races need more mp. while others need more str. thankfully theres alot of gears to fix any slump your char has.

macros.
1. all charm gear. gear that adds chr, an gear that adds to the charm effect. with a light staff.
2. acc gear an str gear. the higher in lvl you get the more mix an match you can do.
3. dark staff

thast pretty much my basic gear macros. nothing to special but it gets the job done, an makes the exp flow.

i concur.
as a taru i have a decent mp pool. 87 mp @ 33? iirc. my melee gear is str first, then acc/dex. i use bream sushi when i bst for the added acc/dex and a healthy boost of vit (5).

Think your thinking of Dorado Sushi Shep. Bream is just Dex and Vit. Dorado is Dex and Enmity I belive.

As for the Haub. I have it and I love it. I would highly recomend getting it. One of the best body armors in the game for DDing. If you ever join a normal party, I'd almost have to say its a required piece of gear. Plus can use it for future jobs.

Then again my play style is extremly offensive. lol. And hate problems really aren't a big deal suprisenly. (No merits of any kind)

Food: Tuna Sushi (+5 chr is very helpful and acc is the same as other sushi)
From lvl 14 till about lvl 60 when you get all your af you will wear a lot of the same armour when you charm pets.
Head: Noble's Ribbon lvl 14 Chr +3
Neck: Bird Whistle Lvl 14 Chr +3
Rings: Hope Ring lvl 14 Chr +2 X2
Waist: Corsette +1 Lvl 40 Chr +6
So with all that gear plus food you will have +21 Chr which will help minimize mischarms early on. By the time you hit lvl 60 mischarms won't be nearly as frequent. All of the gear mentioned shouldn't cost you more than 120k combined. Asides from that you can wear pretty much any melee gear you see fit.

This guide (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/index.php/Beastmaster_Equipment_Guide) has very good suggestions but by no means do you need all of this gear to solo.

In my opinion, there are several parts to the basic BST kit:

Noble's Ribbon, Bird/Beast Whistle, +CHR rings (varies by level) and Corsette +1 as Thoronas describes above.
Apollo's Staff (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/index.php/Apollo%27s_Staff) - level 51, hidden effect +15% Charm. A Light Staff is a viable alternative until you can afford the Apollo's (Light cost me 51k, Apollo's is currently about 2.1 million on Hades)
Gaudy Harness (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/index.php/Gaudy_Harness) - level 50 (52 for the quest if you don't have it from BRD, up to level 60 if Brygid is feeling mean), +3 CHR, latent effect Refresh (up to 49mp). Not so useful for party BSTs, but a fantastic bit of kit for /mage solers.

After that, it's a matter of tailoring your equipment to your play style. Personally, I go for acc, then strength, with a bit of agility, vitality and -emnity. I also use an Electrum Hairpin for a bit extra mp, though I'll change that when I get my Gaudy Harness/Beast Helm (whichever comes first).

I also have a few other bits and pieces I swap in at different times

Tamer's Ring (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/index.php/Tamer%27s_Ring) - latent effect Killer Effects +3, latent triggered by low hp. Also extremely cheap (like about 5k). Swap in when things go wrong.
Warlock's Earring (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/index.php/Warlock%27s_Earring) - one for the /RDMs, gives +1 mp per tick on healing mp. Swap in for resting.
Optical Earring (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/index.php/Optical_Earring) - +1 acc, -2 att
Life Belt (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/index.php/Life_Belt) - +10 acc /drool
Verve Ring (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/index.php/Verve_Ring) and Venerer Ring (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/index.php/Venerer_Ring) - +3 VIT and +3 acc, standard fighing set up
Flower Necklace (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/index.php/Flower_Necklace) - +3 CHR, I have no idea why I use this, wear something better...

Dorado Sushi has a "hidden effect" with enm+3 (?) :wasted:

if you want to tank as BST ^^;

otherwise use Tuna Sushi  chr+5
