i just instaled ffxi and when i go to make a caracter the screen flashes and crashes

do you mean the minimum system requirements?
did you update your graphics card drivers?
do you have direct x installed?

then try a different driver. try the ones recommended and tested by SE.

if that doesn't work, shoot them an email. they'll probably ask for your system specs btw so have that handy.
