How many?

How many people here will seriously switch to Blue Mage when its available? I know when I get to 30 I'm still going to take a Paladin job. Is there anyone else that will stick to their jobs or is Blue Mage just to appealing?

1) if held to tradition, yes

2-3) other than AF, unclear from what i've seen

4) enf and nuke, I'm guessing. will have to find a way to be targeted w/ buffs (see answer #1)

i kinda wanna see what people think of it and i want ot see how it plays and what it does in ffxi (i have seen it in the other ff games) and i really want to see what its gunna do for armor and weapons. stuff like that

Honestly, I have a feeling this will be the only new job. But I guess we'll know soon. With the beta expansion starting in early December, we'll know soon if there were other jobs added.

I will level BLU, but I doubt it will be right away. I will most likely unlock it as soon it's available, and then check it out on one of those days where I'm bored.

Judging from the images we've seen so far and the styles of the Blue Mage in other FF games, Pteryx is on the right track with job role. I'm thinking it'll be something between a RDM and a BRD. More MP than BRD (doh!), less than RDM, with a twist of useful BLU only abilities (like unique buffs from monster abilities and such, obviously). I do have a feeling, though, that BLU will be very limited on their own initial abilities. Most of their arsenal will have to come from mobs, which'll make every BLU unique and individual. At least until strats and cookie cutters start coming out :D

With the whole abilities thing, I'm not so sure how they're gonna make it work out. If you must be targeted by the mob's ability to learn it, that would rule out healing and buff skills used by mobs, which'll be retarded. Maybe damage and enfeebling skills must be used on you, but healing and buffing skills only have to be used on an engaged mob? I guess we'll see soon enough.

I'm more afraid of BLU becoming like RDM and DRK aka forced to give up one part of their job to soley do another (DRK sacrifices magic, RDM sacrifices melee).

And if 1 of my "need to knows" is true...how will we get the self buffs? This would immedatly dismiss the ability for BLU to be a buff/support/healer type if they can only use what they get hit by (asside from PTing with a BST and having the mob use an AoE party buff spell). Hopefully...BLU will also come with a manipulate type ability.

Other than that...only 2 is very important to me. If 2 is true, then we'll see Spike Flails, Condemnation, Great Bleets, Riddle, and whole lot of other nasty skills.

I still wanna level my NIN, RNG, and take my BLM to 50 or 60. I still also wanna take my RDM to the top.

That said, I'd only be trying out Blue Mage to see what it's worth as a sub.

I think subbing BST and making your pet use their TP moves will open up some pathways for party buffs in the higher levels. Or maybe just partying with a BST and making his pet use its TP move until you get a party buff. To my understanding healing wind affects the BST too?

Don't know, with that position though 4 would not fit equally in there. 3 will fit equally, but that is also considering that for some reason they don't change the positioning later on.

Yes, if you are BST with Dhamlel pet. Healing Wind heals your pet AND you.
