Gil buying is for sad little scum who shouldn't be playing FFXI.
Selling however is worse as it prevents some people from making a decent amount of honest gil.
Some people say the whole gil selling/buying keep the economy steady on the sever.
Which i think is total BS. N00Bs with loads of cash don't care about inflation or value when they have gil to burn.

I agree whole heartedly. Alot of these people who havent played FFXI for over a year have no idea how nice the economy used to be. Hell I can remember when a Scorp Harness was only a measly 2mil and everything else was dirt cheap in comparason. Now 2mil you'll be lucky to afford a stick of gum.

I joined year ago and i rember how it was... and i ask WTF happend on this server~! ><
Prices werent low then, but they werent high too... i stoped playing after summer now i returned and What I See? damn gillseling b*** sure are overhelming here =='
... if there wasnt buyers then they would not grow like that.
What lazy idiots must have come to our server!
grr... i think too that we need on Asura some antigill selling/buying movement.

Dunno about Asura.
But the ones on Bahamut are very noticable. It completely sucks when you have a 32PLD/WAR with like HQ gear and crap who doesn't know how the heck to hold hate off of his team mates. It's actually quite sad. (It leads me to believe that his account was bought. Especially after he didn't know what an AH was.)
...Regardless of whether you have the right to buy gil or not, it hurts the economy more than in just prices. Good potential parties suffer from the unlearned ignorance that most gilbuyers aquire without having played the game fully.

The gil sellers camp the spawns, put the item on the ah so a gil buyer buys it, sells that gil to another gil buyer which is used to buy another gil seller camped spawn item and the whole crazy cycle creates inflation for the average player. If the economy wasent soo player controled it would be fine but in ffxi everything item wise revolves around the ah.

This issue has been discussed over and over agian, and asking this question is just beating a dead horse.
Everyone knows that gilbuying is bad. It's agianst the ToS, but more importantly, you're screwing everyone on your server by helping raise prices to unbelieveable standards.
Also, you play on ASURA for fuck's sake, you should already know the answer to this question.

I don't think the way it was put was very politely; however, I agree to the staement. It's best to just let sleeping dogs lie, what happened, happened. It'd just be better to let such a stupid incident to rest! ^-^

I don't see a true reason why gil buying is bad. I see gil spending from the same ppl who buy it bad. With a large quantity of gil they go off and spend "AH amount x5!" Gil buying is ok in my eyes because the money spent was money hard earned by someone.
*of course you are very EVIL for what you did to your brother

It was hard earned ('lest I'm hopin'..._._); however, it wasn't hard earned by the person buyin' it, was it? I get more hoy out of getting things on my own without any help (even if it does kill me over a billion times... -w-).

>.< no. Dont be selfish, gil buying makes it hell for other players, you go spend money on items that you buy from the gil sellers at rediculus prices because you "need" it and cant afford it with your own gil making techiques, but since now that you have a few million gil your not so conservitave and willing to pay the retarded prices, which inturn makes everyone else buy the retarded prices which you yourself couldent afford.
As long as you buy anything on the ah you are effecting the ecconomy, an example is that i wanted to buy lightning crystals yesterday and they were selling for 9k and i bought a few stacks then i couldent buy them for 9k so i spent 10k for a few more stacks, now everyone on the ah will be paying 10k untill someone needs gil quick and sells for a k less.

you may say gil buyers are taking gil earned from gil sellers using non-cheating ways of getting it.
i beg to differ. my linkshell was in sky farming water (in our own little camp, not going outside the hallway/room area) when firelady et al shows up and takes 3-4 pots at a time to their camp, clear on the other side. we had i think 7-10 people or so... so instead of sticking to our skill-up on one pot, we got serious and actively pulled them (in our area) and sometimes away from their alliance. firelady's crew finally got too many pots that they could handle and wiped.
yesterday there was someone in my exp party from gil seller ls. i told the leader to replace me. another pt member had issues with that person also... and the gil seller (at least, in our minds, by being in that linkshell) ended up cussing me out and warping.
it may seem as if i am a snot where they are concerned~ but seriously... i dont know them personally, dont care to and their actions stink.

I never nor will I ever buy gil from someone. not only am I never going to I feel that if someone sells you something that has no real value then that person should be shot and the fool that buys it needs to be lobotomized..

It's the people that repeatedly buy gil (paycheck to paycheck) that really erks me, but if they really don't have any need for the money irl, they can waste it however they want. I remember an acquaintance of mine talking casually about how their friends in star wars galaxies made and sold accounts and currency, as if it were no big deal. I played SWG for about a day or two before the lag got to me, but didn't really have time to formulate an opion about their economy (all their "auction" type stuff caps at 20k).
Anyhow, what I find to be the problem are the people that repeatedly buy gil over and over, keeping the gilsellers in buisness. I'm sure that if out of curiosity someone bought a small denominator of gil one time, if those were the only types that bought gil, then the problem wouldn't be so rampent.
Well, that about raps up my opinion. One last thing, what happened when IGE ran out of buisness? How did they get back their accounts and get back on their feet? For about a week or two they were all gone, but they are all back in full force once again.

ITs sad to see Real Noob's getting their first action of this amazing MMORPG and not having enough gill to even buy robes at level 1. I tell them to go to the stores there way cheaper there, or I buy them the equip's. But its sad when now a-days you cant believe them when they say they new to ffxi and asura. I laugh at my crystals being bought at stack prices, who knows maybe they messed up and though they bought a stacks worth, but I say They deserved it for being so rich.
