View Full Version : VRS: Can We Figure It Out?
Stromgarde

While many of you, if not everyone reading this message, are familiar and extremely experienced with Metasequoia, there is that other application, far more powerful in both scope and application, known as VRS.
It can do a number of wonderous things, including increasing texture size from the standard 64x64 to up to 128x256, add polygons, remove them, and make actual skeletal changes. Unfortunately, it's all in Japanese, and I can't read a word of it.
With the combined insight of those in the forum, I think we would be able to figure out how to make this work; How to create new polygons, vertices, exchange textures, the works. So, I ask the forum: Who knows how to get it to cooperate?

I've looked for a Link to it, anyways you could pass a link where to download it or upload it. I can't seem to find it ? :(

This (http://210.171.112.25/script/SVWeb.dll?OnBrowse&txIHtmlBrowse=ffxi/secrecys/login.html&txISession=0ff4159bGuest) is the Japanese website. You should be able to figure out where to download it without too much difficulty by looking at the names of the links in the bar on the bottom of the browser.
On startup it requires Login (Guest) and Password (Guest). It needs to be run in Japanese mode, with a Japanese font.

Ish must be a more complicated program but if The modelviewer was translated I dont see why this couldn't be.
It would be much more usefull to use then Meta. either that or someone from the JP community could try to help. I wish I knew jp. >.<

I'm studying japanese right now and if I get some time over I could have a look at this as a sort of practical practice of japanese reading.
I'm not exactly sure about what you need translated though. Is it all the text in the program just? From screenshots it looked like mostly katakana, which is just farfetched english.
I have my trusty jwpce to look up words with too, but usually it isn't the easiest to figure out which word it should be.
There are probably people that are better at japanese than me around here, but I'll give it a try unless someone already done it around the time I get some free time for it.
Hmm, after giving it a look it seems like the problem I expected happened. It requires asian font support and I haven't installed it and am not 100% sure where the CD is. Might take a while before I get this sorted out.

If you can translate the menus and buttons that would be great. That's the only thing that keeps me from using the program. >< Untill then I'm stuck using my other 3D apps..

Well after much frustration and downloading different things, Then I realized I needed to enable the language bar so I can switch Languages in XP I've started Translating already.
:) I'll Let you know when I get further
Basicly I'm just using systran to translate *google uses their software*
But I haven't beenable to figure out the program so i'm not sure what some things would be proper way to say in english. Because Translating doesn't always come out Exact english. like the close button translates to "The end of" well ya I can figure that out. Some i'm not sure about as to what they do in the program, but if Somone could help me who know's it, and can help maybe get better english translation that would be great let me know and I can send the text's to you to help
Any Buttons i'm not sure about 100% is left with the Orginal text with (translation?) next to it. A Letter next to button is the Alt+(Key)
Update - About 40% Done on the File/Edit, etc Toolbar.
Screenshot
Just an exmaple of what I got so far, But I wont' do it for Every Menu, Just to get the idea.

Main Toolbar - 90% All have been translated, or have A Translation next to them. Till I am 100% sure they are as listed the JP translation will stay. And I will Consider it 90% done.
It seems Rightclick Window's are next. Got a few done now :)
There is alot to translate so it will take some time. Alot of the translations i'm pretty sure what they mean, But i'm leaving them as the direct Literal translation, till i'm 100% what they effect. But Most I doubt I will be 100% on till its all or mostly all translated. Because I haven't actually been able to play with it and figure out alot.
The only problem I might see happening is see... The List of NPC's Characters armor etc is pulled off the server by a plugin. I'm not sure if it will be possible to translate it easily. Because then its stored in a file. But I will come to all of that last. Just having the program translated would be helpfull if not the armor/npc's

Kilandor, that's unbelievably freakin' awesome. As for the list, depending on the syntax of it it may be possible to shoehorn the Model Viewer list in. Which file is it, so I can take a look at it?

I just tried to add you to ICQ/Aim. Dunno if your on. I'll send you a Private MSG with My Info.
The file is Local DLL\EX\Tool
FFXIReadTool.ldl - I think pulls the update from the web *maybe* or It just loads the Dat from the game *I think it more so does this but maybe both*
FFXIWriteTool.ldl - I would assume it Exports the Model and everything Back Into the Dat
FFXIWriteTool.ldl - The File which contains the list. Open In wordpad to see it Properly formated. Unless you have JP text installed you will only see jibberish and stuff. On the left is the Armor/ETC/NPC probally, haven't looked throught all of it. on the Right is the Dat Location.
I think the .ldl files i'm guessing is just a DLL file renamed to .ldl. If so I might beable to translate them more so, and even find a way to do our own lists like from another server if its read from that.
Now... I think what could be done is, but it would be Time Consuming, Basicly refference ModelViewer list, and Put the names there for each dat file. It would take some time. But it would be easier than translating the whole list. Since we have it already translated
Now I do have a theory on how if we could do this to keep it from updating basicly. Basicly you would have your firewall disable any traffic to the interent that this program does. And it might work but would have to test it later.

Super Double Post: I've found this (http://www.suteki.nu/translator/) to be a fantastic resource for translating either single words or kanji.

^^, This off subject about what you said though. I'm guessing you use GC3? And i'm Guessing you already know how to save the alpha channel from the DDS. To save the alpha properly in the DDS to load back into MV do this instead of (S3 Encode Engine) choose (My Encode Engine) then DXT3 like normal, and save.
The (S3 Encode Engine) slightly darkens the full bmp so it shades what should be transparency just barely. This does not happen with (My Encode Engine) Hope this helps :)

Ok Update Stromgarde has been kind enough to help me in private testing, and figuring out the translations. If need more help later on I might contact somone.
I have the Right Click Menu's Translated - 90% (its 90% for same reason as before)
Some Popup windows are being translated now -20-25% done I would guess not sure where to access them, but I'm just going down the line ^^
And now i'm off to bed

Kil and I played around with this tonight. One thing we did notice is things like Zoom work when holding down Z and left clicking and scrolling with mouse, not as the menu suggests. Well actually it works with just about any key held down and the mouse. Hopefully as we get the translations from Stromgarde we can play with it further to see what works and what doesn't.

Kilandor, you are amazing. ^^
Seriously, once this is finished, the NA mod community will take off. There are plenty of people that want to do more but are hindered by the limitations of just using Metasequoia. Just think of all the great stuff we'll be able to create.

Although I've been asked not to leak the beta, here's a few things I've found:
Hold space + Click: Movement.
Hold R + Click: Rotation.
Hold Z + Click: Zoom (AKA rotation about the Z axis. Clever!)
Press A while in the wireframe window to zoom back to a complete view.
On the right click menu for models:
XY/XZ/YZ: Snaps camera to a perpendicular view along those axes.
-
?
-
?
?
-
Show/hide wireframe
Show/hide skeleton
?
?
-
Toggle indication of vertices with a yellow dot.
Toggle indication of vertices with a blue line.
Toggle indication of lines (polygonal lines.)
? (turns off ability to work with material)
? (turns off ability to work with texture)
-
These next two when both clicked off hide polygons and vertices behind the current view. Top is view, bottom is ability to select.
Also, I figured out how to shoehorn in a larger texture than should be possible into a weapon model, however it only works in model viewer and VRS- it won't take ingame.

Ok update, didnt' have as much time today but hopefully more tomorrow.
The FFXIReadtool.ldl (.dll) Is 80% translated. Spent 2hrs trying to do it quickly ^^ to have something done for today ^^. Its not finish not much left though then It will goto 90%. Its now much easier to import and know actually what race your Importing. ^^
K well i'm off to bed. More to morrow i'm sure :)

Nothing yesterday completed.
Today FFXIReadTool.ldl (.dll) - 90%*
Today FFXIWriteTool.ldl (.dll) - 90%*
One Point.txt (Tips) - 90%
ProcessDetect.dll (Login and a Resolution/color depth warning) - 90%**
Ok so back to working on the main EXE for now
*Note - Those DLL's do not include translated lists....that will be about the last thing. Due to Problems with it updating and checking via internet for the latest version.
**Note All Future DLL's I will only translate the Actually parts that need to to start. There are Warning MSG's exactly same in all of them. And like Printing options. That I doubt will Never come up. But I will go back and translate them later. Well really I will put the ones I've translated into Proper English as well as can be done. Then just copy and paste the data over cause its the same fro all of them.
This is awesome work you are doing! Can't wait to see the finished product and be able to use it.
Will there ever be a way to use this program without needing net connection everytime you log in?

I've had limited success finding out how to manipulate the UV for the mesh; unfortunately I haven't figured out how to bind new polygons to the texture just yet. I'll make a post later with a bit more.
Kilandor

First yes of course it will be free.
As for the net thing...That will be looked into after everything is translated. There are 2 net connections, 1 for the login, 1 to update the list from the orginal VRS page to update the dat list.
With my first release (dont' ask me when yet still alot to translate and stuff trust me you will know ^^) The Dat list will still be all in JP and still need net. Yes this will suck but it will give a chance to figure out the program itself. And how to actually use it.
Likely the most I will beable to do and would hope to do is Change the URL it connects to to one where it could update to a English list. Now this will take time to do, and I'll probally have to learn some new things and do alot of testing. And figure out basicly how the Orginal website transfer's the list to the program.
This honestly is the least of my worries at the moment. Even if I could never accomplish that, even having to count down to find the piece you want is better than beign stuck with meta ^^. But when I get that far i'll work on it don't worry, I would like a english list as much as everyone else ^^
VirtualRealityStudio.exe translation - eh....maybe roughlly 30-35% translated, but maybe not that much hard to tell ^^
So my acomplishments in my other post is what I did for today and i'm heading off to bed

Well if you ever do figure out - I'dbe more than happy to host them to my website.
I'm horrible at programs - but I'm guessing it's either something like an ftp program - but automated or it goes to a database querys it via newest upload of lists to current lists downloaded.
But I could be completely off and this be ran by giant minitaure invisible space hamsters... you never know.

Ok,
I've setup a new forum, that will be dedicated to VRS and modding. Registration is required.
All new updates about it will be posted there.
This will also be a General FFXI Modding Community
There wont' be really anything else other than just Info About Modding
That will hopefully contain guides/tutorials/links/etc
So Please join and Submit anything you have.

I've figured out what the materials button is for. It's for creating differential reaction to lighting. Such that you can set the alpha level transparency is at, shinyness, etc.
It's spiffy.
