Hello. I just got fed up with WOW. I had several high lvl characters and was sick of the grind. Starting this game There are some things I have questions about Hopefully you all can help :) (I've never played a final fantasy before, I'm a PC game guy)

1) World Pass: :vent: K this is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of in any game ever. But I'm willing to give FFX a chance despite this horable mistake. I have 2 friends that are barraly willing to leave wow for FFX, AND THEY WONT if I can't get them on the same server as me. I don't care what server we are on. I currently have a low lvl character on Caitrith and I'm trying to work up enough money for a world pass.

a) I'm in the starting city of Sandoria, Where do I buy a world pass?

b) How much will a world pass cost how long will it take me to get?

c) I have two friends to get on the server, do I need 2 world passes?

d) After I give them the world passes I want to have a character the SAME lvl as
them, Can I start a new character and use the world pass to get into the
server as well?

e) Will they automaticly start in the same starting town or can we choose
to start in a new town with all our new characters?

2) Party sizes: I heard that FFX is VERY party based. How much so? Can me and my two friends do most small quests with just the three of us? How many people do you need to do stuff? I have no problem with finding a big group to do BIG Missions, but I'd like to work in a small group of 3-6 alot of the time (me and my friends work very well together). SO whats the average party size?

3) Character Diversity: What makes characters diverse. In wow characters are diffrent based on the skills they choose. every mage is diffrent. Even mages specd in fire are diffrent based on what fire skills they choose. Does FFX allow characters to be diverse. If so what makes them diverse? Is there a skill tree at high lvls? Do quest rewards give skills that make a character diffrence?

4) Death penalty: I don't mind a death penalty if it's resonable. How bad is it? How much xp do you loose 1/2 a lvl, 1/10 a lvl?

5) Finding quests: Please tell me thier is a better way to find quests and missions then walking around talking to random people and hoping you get lucky.

6) Is thier any depth to the fighting at high lvls. I'm a stratagest and like SKILL to play a high roll in game play rather then LUCK.

First off its ffxI..

1) Worldpasses are there so servers dont ger overpopulated with 7 thousend people and others with 1k...

2)Port sandy near the mog house

3) Diffrent for each server

4)You can change jobs...and after you make one char ever other after that will be put in that server

5)They can chose their town

6)Depends each quest is diffrent...When exping you need a balanced party of damage, and mages, and of corse a tank...some quests can be solo though

7) Spells are scrolls in this, mages get 2 skills their 2hour and devine seal/elemental seal, Each BLM can get all the spells they want (wich should be all they can use) there wont be one thats only fire and one thats only thunder...

8) its like 8% of your needed EXP to LVL and caps at 2400

9) Well quests are given by NPCs...

10) yes this game takes much more skill then WoW...

I currently have a low lvl character on Caitrith and I'm trying to work up enough money for a world pass.World passes were a pain in the butt when everyone was starting and nobody had money, but I don't see what the big deal is now.a) I'm in the starting city of Sandoria, Where do I buy a world pass?Ambleon in J-10 of Port Sandy, by the mog house entrance, I believe.b) How much will a world pass cost how long will it take me to get?Not sure about Cait Sith, but to buy a gold worldpass on Lakshmi cost me about 1000 gil. Sell a couple stacks of crystals and I'm sure you'll have enough.c) I have two friends to get on the server, do I need 2 world passes?During the limited time the worldpass is active, you can use it up to 5 times.d) After I give them the world passes I want to have a character the SAME lvl as them, Can I start a new character and use the world pass to get into the server as well?First of all, there's no reason you'd need to start a new character. Just go to your mog house and change jobs to a level one job. Second, once you create a character on a certain server, all the characters you make after that will be on that server by default.e) Will they automaticly start in the same starting town or can we choose to start in a new town with all our new characters? They will get to choose their starting town when they create their characters just like you did.2) Party sizes: I heard that FFX is VERY party based. How much so? Can me and my two friends do most small quests with just the three of us? How many people do you need to do stuff? I have no problem with finding a big group to do BIG Missions, but I'd like to work in a small group of 3-6 alot of the time (me and my friends work very well together). SO whats the average party size? The maximum size for a normal party is 6 people, and that is the number you'll want to have for any experience party, though depending on jobs and levels you can get ok exp duoing with one friend.3) Character Diversity: What makes characters diverse. This is one area where FFXI is rather weak. One mage gets the same skills as another mage. You distinguish yourself by skill and by equipment. You can make your character's skills different from others by choosing a different subjob, but generally there is an accepted best sub that people will want you to use in most exp parties. Of course, if you're going to be playing with 5 close friends, experiment all you want.4) Death penalty: I don't mind a death penalty if it's resonable. How bad is it? How much xp do you loose 1/2 a lvl, 1/10 a lvl?I believe the penalty is 1/10th the exp needed to get the next level.5) Finding quests: Please tell me thier is a better way to find quests and missions then walking around talking to random people and hoping you get lucky. In game, no there is not. But: http://ffxi.somepage.com/questdb/ and http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/quests.html are useful if you're looking for a quest with specific properties or rewards.6) Is thier any depth to the fighting at high lvls. I'm a stratagest and like SKILL to play a high roll in game play rather then LUCK.Even in the most basic exp party, skill rules all. If you consider yourself a strategist, you'll love BCNMs. They're generally capped at a specific level and represent the upper limits of what a skilled party at that level is capable of. There are still BCNMs that nobody has discovered a successful strategy against. As for truly high levels, I can't speak from experience since I'm only 48, but I think it'd be safe to say it takes a pretty skilled crew to bring down say Tiamat or the gods.

One more question. Is thier a color code or something that lets you know how difficult a monster is. Monsters that look the same to me I can sometimes kill with almost full life, and at other times they kill me with almost full life. also I am often attacking monsters that are too powerfull all together. Is it trial and error or is thier a color code or something.

Use the check option in the action menu, which you open by clicking the mouse.

WoW has no diversity. -_- It's still all cookie cutter talent trees etc.

if u are on a pc u press ctrl + c when you target the monster to check their level.

Double Post Edited:
they goes by something like increable tough, very tough, tough, same level or soemthing lol,
easy prey, and last 1 is maybe no fight lol. i dont really know since i am on japanese version ;p pardon me.
so of cos the first is the hardest and the last is the most easy

When you target something you have the option to "Check" it. This will give you an estimation of its difficulty although this does get pretty inaccurate starting from around level 10-12. After that a monster that checks as an even match will easilly wipe the floor with you unless you really know what you're doing and have the equipment you need to deal with it.

Edit : To clarify what JeanRC was saying.
"Too weak to be worthwhile" is the weakest. These give no exp. Grey mobs on WoW.
"Easy Prey" Will give a little exp
"Decent Challenge" Will give 50+ exp
"Even Match" Will give 100 exp if you're solo
"Tough" should be killalbe by 2-3 characters
"Very Tough" with 5-6 people
"Increadibly Tough" will be you're usual targets in a 6 man party. Capable of giving upto 200 exp and more with an exp chain

There's also "Impossible to gauge" that is reserved for Notorius monsters. They apear as this no matter what your level.

a party of 6 usually fight very tough to increable tough to get good experience.
anything above increable tough may be too slow to kill or kill you all ;p
and is show differently only by saying the monster has high evasion and defence etc.
there is also guide on where u can go fight at which level in some web or maybe even here.

From lv 1-8 or 10, you usually solo.
After u reach 8-10 u going to party in 6 usually. and all the way from 8-10 u need to party to max level allow of 75 inorder to gain good exp ^^; without party , u hardly can level fast enough after level 10

Oh, one more thing. "Increadibly tough" will not only be monsters you can kill with 6 people. Its also the same check result you get for anything way above your level. Think level ?? mobs on WoW.

Hey, I saw you talking about doing quests, just so you know, you get 0 XP from quests. The only way to get XP is to fight monsters, or do escourt missions. You get pages which give you XP. But the best way to go is to just get parties and XP.

Nope a few quests give exp in a form of an item wich you use...

Since you have 2 or 3 other friends who want to play together all the time, I really recommend you to try out the Beastmaster job. To get that, you must achieve level 30 in any job and then do the quest for it to unlock the job. A party of 2 or 3 Beastmasters is very very nice and they level pretty fast if they know their work.

3) The only quests that give new abilities are the weaponskill quests toward endgame.
