i was wondering if there was anyway to uncap ffxi's current frames per second cap from 30. Since someone has already found out how to make the backround resolution higer, you think it can be done with the fps? I'm thinking that theres a registry value we can change but i'm too scared to experiment <_<. I would love to see the game in such fluid motion :spin:

It's possible, or so I've heard. But I've never seen anyone actually do it. I've been looking for a way to do it aswell. It's kind of annoying being able to play half-life 2 at 50fps in 1024x768 on medium-high settings with 6xAA 16xAF, but the game I play the most only runs at 30fps..

While I know that there's going to be a handfull of people out there that flame me with "but I can tell the frame rate is slower and it is REALLY noticable" its really not that easy for humans to notice fram rates around 30fps. If i'm not mistaken television is filmed at 32FPS and movies at 24 (its what gives movies that little somethign different look). Instead of noticing how fast the frames are flying by, we focus more on the change in FPS. Many times someone will be running a game at 75FPS then walk into a "laggy" area and jump down to 45FPS. They'll start saying ah man lag, meanwhile a guy with 1/2 the PC has capped his FPS at 25 and doesn't notice a thing. I think this is the design of FFXI and probably best to keep it that way.

P.S. this is coming from a guy that notices refresh rates that are lower than 85hz so I feel for you all that have hyper-sensitivity to FPS :)

I'm in complete agreement with icesharc. Max FPS isn't so important as keeping a consistent FPS. Heck, this is not a shooter.

I wish the graphics processing team would get working on a new way to more effeciently render particle effects. The wind and dust storm effects cause a huge ammount of system lag or all the PC users I've ever known but the frame rate stays constant. It's supremely irritating that the frankly horrible looking weather particle effects have such a huge impact on FFXI's graphical processing but not on the actual frame rate displayed by the game.

Get a better computer or turn those off, they're not that important.

I think that part is mostly slave to the PS2's capabilities. It's possible it'll change in the future if their playerbase moves off of PS2 and on to PS3 or Xbox 360.

I think they should focus on making ffxi less cpu dependant and use the gpu more...
i mean i have 1GB of ram a 3.1ghz procces and a 6800GT and it lags with weather effects -_-

for gods sake i play halflife2 and doom 3 with full effects and it lags less

Less cpu dependant => better performance for all people with newer graphics cards,

currently i belive all you need is a good procces and as long as you graphics card supports DX(8 was it?) then it will run fine.

I guess you could blame this on FFxi being a port that was barely reworked... :(

Onwards with the dicussion!
