I came back a month ago. Compare to 3 years ago, the game is even more populated right now it seems. More people in Jeuno and more people in higher level areas.

Less people in the lower level area tho.

I still see little people with the ? marks swatting at bees and other things when i go home to windy everytime...guess it depends on the server though

I just came back recently and it's hard to make a party not because of a mages... just not many people online around our level... there lots of people online on higher leveles. Also this can be in other Servers so I don't know really . . .

Depends on how long SE can keep the people with jobs @75 happy. I am willing to bet almost anything that there will be new jobs/different ways to play current jobs either in a new expansion or patch sometime later this year/early next year.

sounds pretty good...

Like I said, Fiance and I looking to make a BIG come back run but I just don't see any sense in doing it unless we'll have another 3-5 years of support.

If this is indeed believed to be the case, please post any info in support of that...

thanks...

I dont know of an mmorpg that 'ended', unless its a free mmorpg, and not even those.

Someday ffxi will end, when the sun hits the earth and everything goes boom.

Yeah, you can see a lot of very old MMORPGs still going quite well. FFXI determining the rate of new players is a lot tougher to determine then on other MMORPGs since the game is consistently attempting to even out the players across all servers.

So if you see very few players in the starting areas the chances are that there is just such a higher number of players in the higher levels that it disqualifies many of the average players from typically joining that server (So most likely the newer players you do see of such a low count may of been invited).

Other then that I'm sure there will be 1 or 2 servers were the number of newer players appears higher still. Also not to mention that the "?" indicator for new player is low in the order that any new players getting invited to the numerous shouts of LSs looking for new players to invite will have their LS icon covering up that "?".

EDIT:

The best estimate you can get is just doing a search for players lv. 1-10 (Going to end up with players that may be raising a job to use as a sub to their higher level job though). Even better if you can get counts of players of lower level with no sub jobs.

I also have to add that I've noticed players in lower levels getting PL'ers like crazy that many of the normal leveling areas have shifted some. Many of the lv. 20-25 players I noticed have moved from Qufim Island into the Delfutt Tower accompanied with a PL'er.

Earth and Beyond, Motor city online, those 2 were closed down.
The Sims online I heard had plans to shutdown too, don't know their current status.

Slayers stopped while I was playing it. People just couldn't connect to the servers. After a few days of posting on the site's forums the website disappeared aswell.

Do they even have members to "come back home" to?

All I remember about AC2 other than it being sub-par was that the servers were all extremely underpopulated until they dumped a few and merged them.

The game just didn't live up to the reputation of the first or the hype created for it, IMO.

But anywho, FFXI is still a relatively new MMO. It broke ground being the first console MMORPG, and even the limitations of being a console game did not keep both the original version and the Windows port from becoming one of the top MMOs of all time. As time progresses, FFXI will only get better and bigger. In my opinion, with Chains of Promathia focusing on story and world content, I think it's safe to expect the next expansion to bring a revolutionary amount of new gameplay content to the game.
