I'm sick of being pulled off my game because my mom , dad or sister wants to go on. I'm also sick of the 1 hour during school days limit AND im sick of the threat the allwasy give me, "I'm pulling it!" (as is there gonna pull the wire out of the modem because I run my wire across my house in the living room) So, I was thinking, once I get back from Jamaica I'm gonna buy a Router! I tried this before and I couldnt get it to work. Maybe I was doing something wrong. Anyway, what Router should I get? I was gonna get a Linksys Cable/DSL Router, any help would be appreciated. Also, how would I set it up?
This is the one I was looking at...DEFSR41 (http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?prid=20&grid=5)
EDIT: I'm a PS2 user
Any router should be fine, however if your mom knows what she's doing, she can still pull the plug, lol.
I personally have a wireless setup, so I can play in my living room, while my cable modem is upstairs in the bedroom. Works like a charm, and never had any problems in the year I've been playing.

From what I gather by your message it sounds like you are using dial-up. If that is the case then you can't really use a router, if the computer has a network card on it you can do a PTP and use the computer as a proxy.
Otherwise if it is through cable or satelite then you can forget the first paragraph. Most of the NIC Routers generally setup really easy, just make sure the cable modem is hooked up to the WAN port and then plug in your computer, ps2, etc.. in the other port hubs. Usually that will be it for a simple setup, some ISPs though are a bit picky or don't like having multiple systems using their connection. In that case you'd have to make some adjustments to the router and use it's MAC Address Cloning so the ISP doesn't complain.

I drew a Diagram, can you tell me what goes in each port?
Example:
1. WAN

3. ????
4. ????

hello, i can tell you that is the only router to get to connect to the internet with PS2. plug cable from modem into WAN on back of router. plug cable from pc into 2 slot (2nd one away from WAN port) and ps2 into 4. make sure everything is powered down (off). ok first restart modem, get signal then start router. now power on pc and check for internet connection. now you can start ps2 and check for connection all should work. good luck
ps post again if you have any problems ill try and help you out. i just did all of this a few weeks back even though ive had router for over a year.

ive seen one at walmart that hooks to ps2 and or xbox. i thinks its $59 or something like that. but i think its only the end that hooks to the ps2 and not the other end that goes to the router.
